I only have five reports to do. I'm a student and I don't know whats usually paid for mentoring so what ever you would feel comfortable helping me for.

Mentor Needed
I'm currently a student needing some help and I don't what it usualy cost to get a mentor.  I have only five reports I need help with so you can just tell me how much you'll be willing to help me for.
Glad I never had you for a mentor. My mentor sm
was superb. She didn't take the time to retype anything, went over it with me and I retyped it myself. And, yes, all of us in our hospital were trained on the job. We got minimum wage. I guess you really should be quitting or at least go back to transcribing. Better yet, another field of work would probably work out much better for you. Sorry to hear you have such an attitude with newbies. I bet you didn't get into this field knowing it all, either. I know I didn't. JMHO.
Need a mentor

I have just about completed one of the two long-term MT courses.  I have begun to look for jobs and find that even with the course training I am still such a rookie.  I have found a few short-term jobs but really need full time soon.  I am wondering if there are any small MT companies out there that would consider hiring me (I will work cheap to learn) and mentor me until I am competent?  I understand that some take a cut from your line rate to mentor and I can live with that.  Any feed back will be appreciated.

mentor
One of the ladies who trained me to do autopsies started when our VA was built in 1944 or 54. She went to the M&M meetings with a pencil and steno pad. We've got it good.
I need a mentor!
I need a mentor!  I am an IC and have never worked outside the home doing transcription.  At first, I only worked for one doctor but now I am expanding and I have sooooooo many questions about the business side of it.  Is anyone able or willing to communicate with me through email and help me out with all the questions that I have?? I would be so grateful.
Mentor
You should probably try to find a mentor at this point. Since you are new MT and the majority of doctors prefer seasoned MTs that would be your best bet at this time.
mentor search
Incidentally .... I'd be THRILLED for a mentor, IF I knew where to look LOL
Looking for ONE good mentor
Are you looking to mentor someone? I'm looking for any opportunity I can find to get some experience. I graduated from an MT school and then found it is not very reputable. Some places will let you test with them even if you are new, if you have graduated from recognized schools. Most places will not let new graduates test. It is frustrating. I've tested with several different places and don't score quite high enough. I obviously could use some help. Are you offering?
mentor for newbie
Are there any smaller MTSOs that would be willing to hire and mentor a newbie?  I have been an MT for a few years now but my friend just graduated from MT school and has had no luck finding a job.  She has already checked within her local area/local docs.
helps to have a mentor too...(sm)
people like us who have been in it for a long time, can give good advice and point a newbie in the right direction. feel free to email me and remember: "no act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted"
If no formal ed., would probably need mentor.

Need a mentor- I have 13 yrs experience
Hi- I am an experienced subcontractor with over 13 years experience in varying fields....I am going to be getting a divorce within the next year or so and in order to be able to provide my children with a better life I really want to start my own service.  I have questions regarding how to get my own FTP site and whether it is my responsibility to provide physicians with their own handhelds, etc.  I don't want to be a big competitive business, but just a small service that will provide my family with adequate finances, possibly eventually hiring one or two transcriptionists to help.  If anyone would be willing to advise me I would appreciate it so much.  Thanks in advance
I'd be glad to mentor; just let me know
exactly how much time you can devote to it, and exactly what you expect to gain from it....other than the obvious, a MT job. Please email me if you are interested.
I need a mentor for CMT Exam
I am looking for someone to mentor (coach) me for the CMT Exam.  I've transcribed for 20+ years, got my RMT in 2007 and am scared to take the CMT but really want to get certified.  Anybody interested???
Are there companies that mentor you on Basic 4? sm
I worked in a hospital, but it has been 8 years. I need to get up to speed and want to work part-time for someone doing the basic 4s where I could be mentored until I'm up to speed. Are there any companies out there like this?
your mentor was paid to train, im not
so there

how much work do you do for free?
She uses Express Scribe. I'm trying to mentor a little bit by

I can't find the old thread on schools that mentor into a job
can anyone help me?
Hospitals don't mentor newbies anymore...
It used to be that a beginning Transcriptionist could get a position in-house, but that is no longer the case. My city has something like 15 hospitals and not a single one of them will take an MT with less than 2 years of experience.
Ah yes! Me too, and I needed it!

EMR's -- we will still be needed

I work at a clinic part-time typing into EMR's as well as running my own company.  But now they are loading Stedman's spell check and work expanders onto Word so that I can type in word and then transfer the info over to the electronic chart.  I type faster in word.  They found that it is faster for the doc to dictate rather than type into the chart and not only that, insurances were questioning the "standardization" of the chart notes.   Too similar.  So I do make sure that even though I use expanders, and macros, I do make some minor changes to "standard exams" so it does not all look the same, but this is with the approval of the docs.  But they can see at least 4-6 additonal patients and dictate all the notes rather than type then and are able go home at 5 o'clock instead of 7.   Also the TAT is 48 hours and not weeks as the docs would never finish the notes.   So we will still be here just typing under a different format.

Thanks, I needed that!
:)
No, what for? Never needed it. nm
nm
thanks, but not what I needed to know
Gee, thanks for all that information. I am well aware that I could send an email, and I am well aware of how to crunch the numbers in terms of rate of pay. I was just hoping to hear from someone who already works for the company. Thanks anyway.
Thanks.. that's what I needed to know
Wasn't sure if it was something routine on every sale or if it was that the buyer backed out. I'll just let it stay there and see if I get payment! I'm hoping to get the hang of listing stuff on ebay, but it took me 2 hours to list that one item!  LOL...
yes MTs will always be needed...nm

Thanks, Jay. That's just what I needed to know. nm

I needed to know this. Thank you! (nm)

Thanks. That is what I needed.

Sorry if that's not what you needed. sm
I reread your post. I tried to find specifics about the profile tests and couldn't find anything either.
Thanks, I needed this
I want to thank you for this post. I was feeling really down about my job with voice recognition and I know I am not out there by myself, but I really needed a good laugh about being a psychic transcriptionist. LOL.
Thanks, just want I needed to know

Because I will probably get a Dell laptop pretty soon.

Thanks again for the help

Thanks, I needed that, too.

was needed. (got cut off).

Thanks! I needed that.

It was much good of yous to care!  Thank you so much for pointing that out.

I don't spellcheck or audit what I type for postings on the internet.  Maybe I should?  After all, I am posting this for myself, not my employer, but you are right, I should care enough.

I think the MTs that Crabby was talking about in her post ought to care too.  I am burnt out from working 14 hours a day to make up for the $$ that I am not making because we all haven't had a raise since 1988 and I believe that MTs with poor skills are part of the reason why all MTs are not getting paid what they deserve.  Are we the only profession that has not had a cost of living raise in practically forever?

There is more needed

I have worked as an IC and employee.  For every some companies, you need WORD 2003.  I could not understand why 2007 would not work, but they swear that it would not work with eScription.  Some people told me that they spoke directly with eScription who said it would; needless to say, I had to purchase a very outdated copy from Amazon.com for about $200.  I was also told that it had to be the full version of WORD.  If you are working with eScription, I am sure that part is correct.

You will have to get a foot pedal, and I was told by last two companies that I was working for (simultaneously) that I had to have a 9-pin foot pedal with a USB adapter which is different somehow than USB alone.

If you are working from a C-Phone then you can rent this equipment from the company.  This would require the unlimited long distance.

Most require highspeed internet.

The other important thing to know is preparing for self-employment taxes.  That is the big one.

I had the hardest time finding good headphones (which you may already have) but finally found the best ever and VERY inexpensive at dictaionwarehouse .com. The salesman was great help and talked me into the less expensive set which was their best seller.  I had already planned on spending $200 for a good set and only spent $25. (Spectra-RA twin speaker headset).  They have these in digital w/USB, stereo, Dictaphone and many other types of connections.  I am now an employee for a specialty clinic and had to go back to tapes and needed mono-headphones, but I am sure the others would be great also and again VERY inexpensive, but the salesman will be honest and tell you for sure.  I just had to share this after the long drawn out hunt.

Orator Pro help needed!
While setting up a network connection for my laptop computer, I inadvertantly deleted a network connection that I THOUGHT was not being used. In the process of deleting the networked drive, I also deleted some folders for the Orator Pro phone-in system. Of course, the Bytescribe company is closed, which means there is no technical support for me right now, and my doctors are unable to phone in dictation until I can get the system back up and running. I have a system restore disk from Bytescribe, but I'm not sure how to use it and am afraid I will make things worse. The disk has Symantec's Ghost software, which gives you options for partitioning drives, etc. Is there anyone out there that has made the same mistake in the past or can help me use the system restore disk?

Thank you. I appareciate any help you can give me.

Follow up is needed.
I responded to a job this morning and at their request sent my resume and did not receive a reply until I saw another posting for the same job on this board. I just dont think this is good business.
It pointed out something that NEEDED to be said
The OP is BRAND NEW. She has no idea what is right or wrong. She just believes her way is right and QA is wrong, even "made up". Paddywhack is right. You follow the preferences of the account that provides your paycheck. If you get a different job, their preferences will probably be different. That doesn't make them wrong. It just means that those are the rules you have to follow to get the paycheck. It's not rocket science. It's common sense. The OP needs to get off her high horse and stop thinking she knows everything and start learning what her employer wants so she can KEEP getting that paycheck.
More laughs needed
If you think this board is not boring then something is wrong with you! They were a riot!

Do you know how many people responded yesterday just cracking up at them. People were actually saying they have not laughed that hard in a long long time! This is what this board needs - more laughs and less griping!

Opinions needed
My son (18) works for a professional tree service.  He travels daily to the boss's house to load up and travel to the work site.  He's been doing this for a little over 2 months.  He goes on the clock to be paid (I didn't know this until yesterday) from the time they reach the destination where they work.  I just found this out and looked up the state's labor law concerning being paid for travel time.  I find that since he is required to meet at the boss's location to load up that his time for payment should start when he starts there and he should be paid for the travel time as well.  Okay, now we know this.  How would you handle this?  I know what I would do, but am looking for other opinions to share the whole picture with my son.  Thanks.
Luck isn't all that will be needed if going
What do you think, management posting again because they are so desperate for help???
Not needed - in my opinion

I have been told by attorneys and accountants it is  not needed.  The doc signs off on what he dictates and if he does not, I put in "Dictated but not read".  It is his responsibility not ours.   Been at this for over 25 years and never been questioned on if what I typed was what the doc dictated.

Thanks, I needed that Lori! LOL (nm)
;)
i needed that reminder too, thanks

Prayers are also needed
Hello: I will say a prayer for this precious little one. He is too young to suffer this way. I also need many prayers for a dear friend with Stage III ovarian cancer, who is undergoing chemotherapy and having a rough time, but has a loving family and is coming home today. It is not hopeless but need prayers.

I also need some prayers for my mother-in-law who is in the hospital with lymphoma and a severe blood infection. If anyone has some extra prayers please send them there way as they are lovely ladies and need a second chance. Thank you. Hope all of our prayers are answered.
Yes and ANYONE can do it, right? No training needed! nm
