i agree - how do they think the spaces get there - nm

Co. I work for only gives you three spaces for a macro!

My line including spaces is 65 characters. I've heard that not counting spaces
takes away over 35% of your line count. I believe it too because you have at least 15 or so spaces on each line that you type. Use your first sentence up top as an example; you had 77 char and 21 spaces - in that line that would be a little less than 30% of your characters that you didn't get paid for. I don't think it's worth it and wouldn't want to work without getting credit for my spaces.
They used to not pay for spaces, but a poster here said they are getting spaces paid. Are there 2

without spaces compared to with spaces
10 cpl without spaces equals to how many cpl with spaces?
Spaces versus no spaces....

Can someone tell me how big of a difference it makes if a company pays for spaces versus no spaces.  I have only every been paid without spaces.  I have been offered a position that pays for spaces, but the cpl is less than I am making now.  I am not sure if getting paid for spaces will make up for the pay cut.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I agree 100%. I had so much work
this morning that I already got my lines in!!!!! I guess I will keep working and do extra! They can keep complaining, it is giving me more work. Maybe MQ found out who they are and are routing their work to us. LOL!!! LOL!!!! LOL!!!!
AGREE - I used to work as a QA there
was promoted. Anyone who cannot construct a logical sentence or spell common words, much less edit a medical report correctly because she has only 2 years of MT experience, has no business running a QA department. When people are promoted because they kiss a$$ and threaten to go on strike, whatever that means, if they aren't, is working for a company that has dirt-low standards. I am much, much happier at Amphion.
I work M-F and I agree with you. There are SM
several MT's on my team who are addicted to over-time and will not stop.

Isn't there a way work can be routed to you and cut off to others who do not belong on-line?
Agree. Think she want to work a lot but have

I agree. As long as you have the work
option to give work to another IC.  I has a client that used other ICs.  Just because I transcribed for one physician didn't mean I could expect to receive all of their work.  Being an IC is being your own boss, not your client's boss to tell them who the can and cannot contract with.  JMO.
I agree....some piece of work....sm

The children today (NOT Generation X as they were products of the 1980s)......have enough to be frightened over in this world that has changed dramatically....we, as parents, don't have to make them more scared and more scared.  Parenting is an art - there are lots of free classes in early childhood development or PET (parent effectiveness training) which I took when my child was 4.  It was also taught by a psychologist with a degree.  There are sooooo many good positive ways to raise children where one doesn't have to *resort* to *submission* and still get super positive results.

There are also obedience schools for learning how to raise animals.....the poster should check into these things.....

Pedophiles always use *scared into submission* when they are about to steal a child and do nasty things.....TO THE POSTER WHO BELIEVES IN *SCARED INTO SUBMISSION* - you keep on doing this to your children, and maybe some perpetrator will also play on that reaction your children now have from being *scared into submission*....HEAVEN FORBID!  But when you make a child scared into submission, they then tend to be scared into submission by any ADULT.

Check yourself on this one......

Totally agree . It is all in where you work.
I make 50K plus a year working 8 hours a day. Still love this job after 25+ years.
I work as an IC and when I agree to take work, I have to
have it back to them by 6 a.m. the next morning, but, I let them know when I can work. It is definitely not an every day thing. She does not tell me when to work, only the TAT.
I agree. Love Canadians, but we need our work here.
What about their socialized med system? No work for them there? Nope, I love Canadians as our neighbors, but I agree we need to keep it in the USA.
I agree. It's a great place to work,
most places are very slow around the holidays. And the owner is a great lady.
I agree -- go for it. After all, 9 cpl is not all that great for IC work, and it sounds like you nm

I agree, it depends on who you work for BUT also the account
and how long it has been on VR. If it has been on VR for a few years, piece of cake. If it is just starting out on VR - tedious work, low pay as it takes longer to edit than to just transcribe it.

I have been doing VR editing for 4 years now with an account that has been on it that long also...can make up to $50 an hour, and some times as low as $30 an hour when we add new dictators.

Hope this helps.
I agree. Have grown child, but can work during their SM
school hours and in the evening. A split shift is highly productive.
Agree---and work on those expansions..it stinks at first
but it WILL pay off in the long run. Especially once you're familiar with the doctors and you can *almost* type what they're going to say before they say it. When you're that familiar, it makes for a fabulous line count:-)
I agree...I have been busy with work all summer

I agree, and I work for MQ! Sooo boring, soooo old, and
you would think they'd realize how idiotic they look - whining and whining and predicting doom and gloom! Honestly, MQ and Philips is BOOMING in the business world right now.  Huge advances the last few months - HUGE sales of products, advances, awards in the industry.  I get email alerts daily on the HUGE growth of MQ - and these old sea-hags just sit on here and cackle about DOOM.  Boy, do they need a reality check, or what? All is fine in MQ world, and always, always will be!  As long as you're willing to work and have a brain, MQ is a great place to work! Oh, yeah, and I'm mgmt - making 6 figures and even remotely interested in sea-hag opinions! That is just soooooooooooooo lame, too! Or maybe I'm the same poster from below who always uses CAPS! That is sooooooooooo funny. Cracked up at that analysis - some of these women have way toooooooo much time on their hands rather than hitting the keyboard! Analysing posts to compare typing styles. Give me a break! What a hoot!
Totally agree with you. Often compare my work with that of a painter
You give him a job, give him a price and if he does not perform - you find another painter!
Totally agree. My husband has been out of work for 1 year. sm.
In that time he has graduated college. We have applied to close to 100 places with NO responses. I work two jobs (one of which just got cut back). Its tough but I don't ask for help. It drives me to the point of wanting to hit someone when they say "Tell you husband to just get a job". I just took out 30,000 in student loans to help him get a "career" because that is what they tell us to do in a recession but guess what..NOBODY IS HIRING. If you have a job, your lucky, keep it. If you quit your job just because you want state aid, your a fraud and a liar and a poor parent. HOW could you teach your child values, responsibility and work ethic, if you have none yourself.
I have to agree that cherrypickers will be out of work when VR takes over, since the harder reports
Even when I worked inhouse and had the opportunity to cherrypick, I didn't. Even now, I am finding out that ESLs are probably easier than than some of the American doctors in the long run, because they get down to business and dictate their report. Most times, they say the same thing over and over. Learn the doc, know his quirks and bang, you are done.
Thank you. I agree. Lack of enthusiasm in my work is bound to show up

I totally agree, the company I work for is switching from IT to Shorthand :( yuck!

RE: I totally agree!! I work at home can came make upwards or $25+ per hour (sm)
Where outside of my home could I make that money, not have to pay gas, buy extra clothes, etc.  I am very happy right where I'm at.
Yes, I agree. Free is a good price and Express Scribe will work just fine for you. (nm)

I agree. I work for an exceptionally difficult university and those people dictate on cell phones in
trains, in cars, everywhere and they cut out and they just have an exceptional amount of residents dictating on anything imaginable. My blanks are never for words I dont know they are for crappy dictators or those that simply dont know what they are talking about.
Agree, agree, agree! Just listen to Benny Hinn..

he speaks perfect English, especially when asking for money!  Also, in my opinion, blanks should be left in the doc's dictation if not able to be transcribed, maybe then they will know that are NOT understood.  With QA fixing them, what need is there for them to care if we understand them or not?

DQS no spaces? Are you sure?
Are you sure DQS does not count spaces? When I first started, I took a report and manually counted each and every character, space, return, etc, and found that the lines count I was given for the report matched (rounded up) my manual count. Even now, I copy and past every single report to Word Perfect (which does not count spaces on my version), and DQS always exceeds my Word Perfect character count by a bunch, so I figure I am not being cheated. Take a medium size report, print it, and try counting manually and see what you think.
I know they don't pay for spaces
So tell me why when one day I did 800 lines and then 3 days later it shows I did 670 lines when I actually did 800 lines.  The 800 lines is without spaces, headers, footers.  So did those lines magically disappear?  This happens to me weekly.
spaces
LOL.  I think we need to transcribe a few reports without spaces..heck, let those being paid hourly fill the spaces in.

LOL. You just made my whole day.

BTW that is really hard to do.

anycompanypettyenoughtonotcountspacesisacompanytostayawayfrom.  Who'spocketdoyouthinkthe$forthespacesislining?  Quite frankly, I've been a med trans for nearly 30 years and I'm so damned tired of watching big business cut into our means of living.  How did all this start anyways? Used to be in the old days that we were all just ICers looking to make a living, and we did in fact make a decent living.  Then came the introduction of nationals and everyone ran to them thinking they'd be making BIG money.......Now the nationals are in place and their CEOs are making the bucks we thought we'd get a piece of. Wish there were a way of reversing this.
Spaces
She's lying. MQ does NOT PAY FOR SPACES. They treat their transcriptionists like crap. I found this out and left them. I found it out for a fact.... They do NOT PAY FOR SPACES. They have started this "trend" and other companies have begun to follow suit. They make me physically ill.
Spaces

Been there 2-1/2 months.  Love it.  Plenty of work.

Issue:  Spaces.  Recruiter said no spaces.  Trainer said no spaces.

On the line count screen, clicked on one of my reports, then had an option to look at payroll stuff on it, so I did.  It added up not only every single character I typed but spaces AND carriage returns (I had 719 spaces and 56 carriage returns) and used that number divided by 65 for my line count.  NO KIDDING.  I am surprised.

Who knew?!  I'm excited!

spaces

Was this on DQS?  And could you give more detail on how you did this (i.e., what exactly did you click on to get this info?).  Thanks!

spaces

I was told years ago that I was not paid for spaces on the account that I was on, but some accounts were.  It depended upon how it was set up when they won the account.  I think that's why there are some who are and some who are not, thus the confusion.  The only way to know is to manually count your lines and compare them to what the system counts.

10 cpl with spaces. nm

What about spaces?

no spaces
I kind of messed up my original post.  I meant to say that spaces are not included.  Thanks.
I think w/o spaces is 30% less than with spaces. nm

They do pay for spaces
At one time they did not pay for spaces but they do now.  They are fine to work for- I have worked there 3 years and have never had a problem.  They do not lie to us and they don't make anyone work 7 days.  They are a stickler for quality.
Pay me for your spaces or else...
If they don't want to pay for them they must not feel they're important...just don't type them and then see what they say.  : )
Spaces vs not
Take one of your old documents and figure it out both ways, even if you don't have a line counting program, do it in MS word and that will figure both ways and then you can see the difference and divide and see what percentage you are losing for no spaces.   At least that will show you the difference between the two.
2 spaces
client probable couldn't care less.....but correct way is 2.
