and breast-feeding their kids till they're five. I didn't know John ate a placenta. That's gross to me. But you can't deny what his message was and I don't see how you could find fault with it because he wasn't just like you.

Picky eaters

Dealing with picky eaters is really hard.  I have 2 kids, and their dad is really picky, and my kids inherited his pickiness.  My daughter is 10, and she has never, ever had any type of beef before.  She only likes cheese and bread and can't stand anything wet, such as salad dressings, or ketsup.  She hates any type of fruit, vegetable, pizza or meat but will eat tofu and soybeans.

The way that I deal with it is this.  I make a normal dinner, but I make sure there is 1 side dish that my kids will eat.  They have to try at least one bite of everything if they want desert, but I never force them to eat anything.

I also have my kids each pick out 3 TV dinners each week.  (Even that is hard, since they frequently have a hard time finding a TV dinner that they will eat).  If they absolutely cannot stomach what I've made, they are allowed to make themselves a TV dinner instead.  They know that if they ask for more that they have exceeded their "pickiness allowance" and that they have to eat what I make or starve.

picky eaters
My daughter is 9 and fairly picky. I agree with M, I always try to make sure there is a side dish that my daughter will eat, and if there is something in the main course (i.e. onions, tomatoes,) she is allowed to pick them out and eat the rest of the meal. However, if I make something new she has to try one bite of it. Many times she ends up liking them, although since your boyfriends kids are older that may not be easy for you.

My husband thinks the kids should eat whatever I make, regardless of if they like it, but I disagree somewhat. I think that we should all be allowed our taste buds, and that it is normal for one person to like what another doesn't. He has learned to come around to my way of thinking. LOL

Good luck to you!
My picky eaters were all told sm
as soon as they were 15 and working that if they didn't like what I put on the table, they could cook their own or order out. My oldest boy, 29, always ate anything and everything. He still does.  My second boy, 22, only liked pizza (minus the cheese, go figure),chicken nuggets, popcorn, tomato soup with bacon bits, apples with peanut butter, and cereal. He has a girfriend now and eats more of a variety, like Chinese food. My third boy, 20, eats only freshly cooked food. He hates leftovers.  Would rather go hungry than eat leftovers. He gets a lot at Subway or Burger King or he orders from the restaurant. My hubby was picky at one time, too, but not after 26 years of marriage. I always tried to keep whatever they liked on hand but that is as far as it went. I cooked the main meal. If they didn't like it, oh well. I told them I was not a chef in a restaurant. That solved a lot of problems. Sounds mean but I came from a family of 7 that had only 1 income and we ate what was put on the table and if we complained too much then we had liver and spinach the next night. We learned in a big hurry.
The delivery isn't over until placenta
is delivered, and if not intact then they have to do a D&C.
Any advice for dealing with picky eaters?

OK, I'll try to explain this the best I can.  My boyfriend has two children...one is a girl who just turned 18.  The other is a boy who is 15.  These two children will not eat ANYTHING!  The girl is pickier than the boy, but still he is bad enough on his own.  I have an 8-year-old son who will eat more of a variety than these two put together.

I am really getting tired of eating the same old thing every week.  They will eat chicken, pork chops, burgers, hot dogs, pizza, and steak.  It gets very old.  My boyfriend and I love italian food, but if we make it we have to cook something separate for the kids (not including mine) to eat!

The girl doesn't like ham.  OH, but she will eat ham that you put on a sandwich...but if you cook a ham, she turns her nose up?!?!?  She likes baked potatoes, but not mashed?!?!?  The boy would live on pizza ANYTHING if you let him.

I know that since they are older there isn't much I can do about it.  Plus, they aren't my children, so I feel strange saying much about it.  Their dad tries to get them to try new things, but they won't do it.  In my opinion, he doesn't really try hard enough.  My son has always been made to try at least a bite of something new...if he really doesn't like it he doesn't have to eat it, but most of the time he thinks it's good.

I just am sick and tired of the dinner menu choices being so limited.  My boyfriend is a great cook (I am a good cook too, but he loves to cook, so he does most of the cooking).  I'll ask what's for dinner and then almost feel sick to my stomach when it's chicken AGAIN!!

If anyone has any advice I would appreciate it.  I think I needed to vent about it more than anything.

John Lennon did NOT eat a placenta!
As he would say - rubbish.

Ugh - I have placenta brain already - I meant for my last baby :)

Why is it important to talk about placenta in reports
I'm not sure if I'm even on the right board for this.  I rarely do OB reports, and maybe I should know this but I don't.  Can someone tell me why it's important to talk about the placenta after a delivery.  I even have someone who dictated the time the placenta was delivered.  I understand what placenta is, but I'm not putting 2 and 2 together as to why its important that it's talked about.  I'm just curious is all.
HAIRY!! do not call yourself stupid!!

What's wrong with hairy backs??? nm
:I
DH has a hairy back and it is gross to me. I know he can't

help it, but I still find it gross.   He has to have yearly skin check because he has had dysplastic moles several times.  On his last visit we talked with the dermatologist about a permanent hair removal and he told me that laser was the only way to get it, that it was painful and that is potentially could scar my DH.   I had electrolysis on my eyebrows once and it wasn't like labor painful, but it was painful enough I wouldn't do it again, not to mention that I was swollen, red, and tender for several days.  I don't know how laser compares to electrolysis, just passing along info from DH's dermatologist.

hairy is fine as long as its not on their backs

Yes, we idolize people who do drugs and serve placenta pate.
:(
I thought the French, Germans, and Russians were hairy.
Would that make them hirsutian?
Achy legs

For the past couple of days my legs have been aching nonstop.  I walk 30 minutes per day for exercise and make sure to take breaks and get up out of the chair.  I don't know what is going on but it is really driving me nuts.  It makes it very hard to sit here and push this pedal.  I'm hoping it will go away in a day or so, hopefully as quickly as it started.

Anyone else have this problem?

Achy legs
Hi: Yes, I also have achy legs, sciatica, lower back, restless legs, fibromyalgia. I have been an MT for 30 plus years. I was told best thing to do is get up every 20 minutes and walk around, shrug shoulders, pendulum swings of arms, etc. I would advise you to see your PCP or orthopedic doctor also - they may be able to help you. Maybe it is the 30 minutes per day walking that makes your legs ache? Mine do with the fibro, so limit it to 15 minutes. Do you sit in a good chair, with pressure off the top of your legs? I was told that is important also. Hope you feel better, achy legs/body/neck/shoulders, all seem to come with this type of job.
Think about never shaving your legs ever again.
I like them. I'd never wash my hair. I'd gain 100#. No one would ever know.
OMG. I'm never letting my legs out of my sight again. LOL.
nm
I can put my legs (one at a time, of course) right up to my head
Never was a gymnast or a ballet dancer or athletic, and I'm DEFINITELY not a fatty.

But I don't transcribe at my desk with my leg up to my head :)

legs get kinda numb ???
Does anyone else experience this?  After sitting at my 'puter and transcribing, my legs feel like they are asleep.  Not really pain but numb.  It does not necessarily happen after long periods of typing.  It can be after just an hour or two?  What causes this and what can I do about it?  Or is it even related to sitting in a chair all day?
LOL @ both legs! I remember those days!

My 10 yo dog has lost ability to use hind legs

She was put under anesthesia to have a large mass removed from her chest.  What I thought might be a malignant lump turned out to be lipoma.  She had hip dysplasia all her life and was arthritic but never thought she would lose use of hind legs.  Surgery was today.  Picked her up at 5:00 and now, 4 hours later, I am truly concerned.  She is a weinaraner.  I am to give her 10 mg of prednisone daily.

Geesh, I wondered why the vet didn't bring the dog with her when she talked to me.  And when we discussed surgery, I mentioend that anesthesia was hard on senior dogs (it was hard on me and I am healthy adult).

Just wondering here if she will recover.  Maybe smeone here knows something about this.  Thank you

I used to until i read somewhere that being anemic would cause achy legs. sm
i would get them severely in the late afternoon/evening no matter what i tried, especially bad when working or driving. i was thinking i needed to see doc for restless leg syndrome and then i researched and read the above, which i was anemic as i tried to donate blood shortly before this and was denied due to being anemic. i bought me some OTC iron, took 2 q.d., and no more achy legs as long as i stay on my iron.
Swollen legs & ankles - suggestions? (sm)
Does anyone else have a problem with leg and ankle swelling from sitting in the same position all day?  Mine is worse than ever lately.  Any suggestions of getting rid of and preventing this from happening again?
Yes. My legs would get so tight and my feet and ankles

swell horribly.  I have to loosen the shoestrings on my tennis shoes to get them on, but if I'm up moving around the swelling goes down and then I have to tighten the strings.   As someone else said cut back on salt - I use salt substitute but it still isn't good in large amounts, and move around a few minutes every couple of hours.

This is not abnormal and does come from sitting so much and I've known lots of MTs with the same issue.

Nope, not me. I'd rather shave my legs, stay at a
.
In the meanwhile, make a harness to support his back legs when you take him outside (sm)
Use a long thin beach towel as the harness underneath his rear legs and the ends of the towel as your handle. I had to do this as part of therapy for my senior. Also massage the legs.
Legs.....I move around for 5 minutes every hour, no matter what. nm

Johnny Depp makes my legs go weak - Yummy!

Mind is willing to work but legs and back aren't cooperating.
Any cures for MT body aches?
yeay, can't wait to see the pic. my legs swell horribly at my desk NM
.
DANSKOS, but when any part of my legs starts hurting, I immediately do several leg stretches
fixes them right away. One thing though, you have to get a pair of really good shoes now - my daughter-in-law got me a pair of Danskos because she wears them (on her feet all day as an ICU nurse) - that was five years ago - they made a tremendous difference and now I wouldn't wear any others. There are other good shoes out there and you DO have to pay for them, but it's worth it.

My problem now is my back up between the shoulder blades - the only thing that helps there is to stop typing and apply heat. Right elbow is usually achy too, but that goes away when I rest it.

Wish I had a hot tub.

Good luck to you.
