Older/younger generation.

I did not say that the older powers that be did not start the whole thing. My point was that we certainly cannot count on this generation to save the day. I am 52. My mom did not work until I was older. We did not have all the "stuff" that I now have. Now my husband and I both work our ends off to have what is now considered a normal lifestyle. This generation tends to feel entitled to this lifestyle. Because it is harder to maintain now by just working a regular job, people are willing to do less ethical things to maintain, and it will get worse.

Actually, with the war, there will be no SS for the younger generation...
They are constantly discussing this in the news of how to save SS for the younger generations. We are actually paying your SS with our SS because there is 0 right now due to the war. My husband keeps telling me we will probably have to save for our own (ages 39) if we want any at that time. The baby boomers will be paid by our SS and we will have nothing. This is a heavy topic with my husband. Bush keeps saying we'll worry about it then...pretty scary.
I'm 1 of the younger generation

and I didn't come out of college expecting to make 6 figures.  Credit card debt and living beyond your means is not age-specific.  I have seen many a retired folks lose everything because they couldn't manage their money.  Had to have the flat screen TVs, RV, boats, vacation homes, etc you spoke of.

Other than the age factor, I do agree that many people are living well beyond their means.  I talked to someone just last night, who happened to have bought my best friend's house just last summer.  They're selling it now and looking for a cheaper place to buy.  When we asked why, they said they couldn't afford it.  They have 2 brand new SUVs (just bought the 1 this past winter).  I've always said the people who drive nice vehicles often don't have a pot to p!ss in.  When vehicles are costing $40,000+, I don't see how any one can afford 2 plus a nice home.  Take a drive through your local trailer park and you'll see what I mean.

As for me and hubs, I have a minivan that's 10 years old, but we keep it in good condition, and my DH has a 2001 car that is in very good condition.  We also keep an old Ford Ranger truck (1995) around for yard work, etc.

All 3 are paid for.  We have very little on a credit card, that we'll be paying off as soon as the 0% runs out on it.  We also have 3 kids and a house.  Many-a-day I wanted to buy something and didn't because I didn't have the money and didn't want to pay for it for the next 10 years.  Those are the choices that some make.

On the flip side, not everyone makes enough to even live, and for those I am truly sorry.  I have no pity for the ones that just don't know how to manage money.

Older generation?
I am a little bit younger than the flower children, and I know a lot of our politicians and CEO's are "old". I agree with you about where this country is headed. I also agree that it is time for a change. However, I am not sure you can count on the younger generation to bring this about. My experience with most young adults around now is that they are more self-centered than any generation before. There are more young adults still mooching off their parents than ever in history. Also many MTSOs in business today are younger people who see the global economy as an easy way to get rich without putting in the time to build wealth through hard work. There is a lot more that can be said about that.
I am an older woman and I dont fit that at all. In fact, I know a lot of younger women trying to
work and take care of kids that fit that scenario.
What I wonder about is the lengthy time our generation
of women (in their 40s) have been on BCPs. If they are so powerful hormone-wise to make our bodies think we are pregant, what could that do to our bodies after ten years or so??? If HRT, which just replaces hormones not being produced, is so dangerous to us with regard to breast tissue, why are BCPs not? Seems to be an oxymoron. But this is just speculation on my part as, of course, studies show no connection...
That generation sure did have some hard times, and it seems to have
My brother and family moved into my mom's home when she became ill for the final time, but she had so much stuff there were only aisles from room to room, otherwise there was floor to ceiling STUFF that she couldn't part with, that she was sure she would need someday. I'm sure there was some kind of mental problem there. My brother and wife took over a dozen 2-ton wagons of junk out to the back 40, and filled in a wash with all the stuff, burned some, let nature take its course with the rest. I guess she had lived without material possessions for so long, that she held on to what she had, for a long, LONG time.
The entire hippie generation loved

So, this future generation of MT's all live in their cars?
Because don't forget - MT wages never go up, only DOWN, if any change at all. And cost of living keeps going up. What has gotten cheaper during the recession? NOTHING. What will get more expensive once the economy improves? EVERYTHING.
Being educated about the environment and caring about what is left for the next generation does not
nm.
but I was younger than
I went out of state one time to visit relatives.  We had gone to a bar (a real down-home, dirt floor, southern type of bar) was having a great time.  Went for a ride with a "cowboy" I met.   Nothing happened, we went to his place to pick something up, drove me around past several local attractions.    The people I was  with were worried, but of course could not stop me.   Everything was okay, and he took me back to the bar with my relatives, and the evening went on as before.  But when I think back on it, HOW STUPID WAS THAT.  Anything could have happened, and I should have known better. I was in my early 30's at the time.  Not sure what point I am making, just that we all do stupid things that we can't even believe, looking back, that we were dumb enough to do.
You are probably MUCH younger than me... I'm 45 and...
in my day, NOBODY went to preschool.  They hardly existed.  We all showed up on the first day of kindergarten with that being our first school experience.  We learned how to sit still, listen, cooperate, and we played.  We didn't show up having spent 3 to 4 years in preschool and with our parents fretting over whether we could read as well as little Johnnie.  Too much pressure on kids these days.
My DH is 4 yrs younger than me.

Who is 30 and younger and in this biz?

When I was younger...
I was always having to defend my working at home plus working nights to boot. My aunt in particular used to give me a bad time and actually still does sometimes. She was a social butterfly and felt I'd never meet any new people, but life in general has changed a lot since she was out there in the real world. After nearly 20 years of working in an office environment, I was more than happy to be able to work from home. I'm plenty "social" enough during the daytime outdoors, running errands and spending time with a few other people, am active in church and don't get lonely. I prefer more of a homebody lifestyle. When I retire, I'm hoping to do a bit of traveling to places I've always wanted to see. I'm with you, to each his own. My experience is that people who appear to be having a great time out there running around often are not all that happy/contented with themselves anyway.
looking/feeling younger
Actually I say more power to them. I think it's great that an older woman wants to keep up instead of wearing those polyester pants and orthopedic shoes. I see several woman a lot older than I wearing ankle bracelets, toe rings, capris. I say go for IT. I didn't know there was a rule for how old you have to be to wear certain clothes.
You are right about waitressing, wish I were younger

My daughter works for one of the popular restaurant chains in town.  She makes a fortune in tips!  One night she had a to go in just to serve one party of 20 that was a "preorder" (food was ready when they got there), hardly did a thing and she got a $75 tip!

I was like, "Gee! Do they have any openings?"  Her feet kill her at the end of the night, but I could donate my wrists and fingers to science and I don't get any $75 tips.

all women in their 40s should go out with younger men
anyway
My DH is 14 years younger than me
and for some reasons I agree with you, but for others I'm not too sure.
I agree with you. Younger MT's need to SM
find something else, because there is no future in this and what future there is will be peanuts.

Can you get someone elsee to babysit children? I would have a long talk with hubby.
I'd look 20 years younger too.
Bad job on Kenny I think. I guess he is better than Joan Rivers though.
It was actually my younger sister!!
No idea what prompted it.
any tips for looking and feeling younger?
I've always been a health nut and was going to school to become a nutritionist until I found out how much math I would have to take.  I have about 30 grams of  fiber in my diet, and water to keep the GI running "smoothly" but the most recent thing I started was drinking about 1/4 cup olive oil mixed in with a V8 per day about a week ago, and it makes such a difference in my skin, its firmer, eye circles are gone, and softer and thicker, fine lines just about gone.  It also aides in digestion to get all those nutrients to the skin to help repair it too.
on the topic of looking/feeling younger

I dont really know how to say this, so here it goes...sometimes older women in denim shorts and tank tops look...like older women trying to look young. I am not trying to disrespect anyone, but come on ladies, we've all seen them.  The person in the skimpy shorts and low cut top and bleached blonde hair, she turns around and lo and behold, she's your grandmother! That is not attractive! Women can dress and feel sexy without having to borrow our daughter's clothes! Just IMHO!

It is beyond me why younger people are getting in this right now but I guess they will eke out what
they can.
Y not? As doctors get younger, they'll all be able to
Internet slang their medical reports using their blackberries.  TPW AAK.  (The patient was alive and kicking.)
She could outskate all those younger athletes! sm
Kimmie M. was good (and she does get to go to the Olympics) but Michelle can skate circles around those young girls. Emily H, who gets bumped from the Olympics, does not have half the talent Michelle has and that certainly showed in her programs at Nationals. She looked very inexperienced. I say send Michelle. The others don't come close to having a shot at medal, she does.
Mick and Keith are 62 and Ron is younger....sm

just cause you probably look like you're 70 and you're probably 50 isn't anybody else's problem except yours.

*ROFL*

Forgot to mention - I am an 80s Teen - younger than you! nm

I do love those younger gals though, the always pudgy ones in hip riders and too too tight tops.
so attractive with the roll hanging out.
A trivia game question mentions Colonel Sanders; younger players had
(Has KFC been around THAT long????
Not only are you older (sm)
but you're wiser too! And, yes, you are hopelessly out of it. These poor kids are racking up so much debt with this silliness! Of course, the limited selection of appropriate clothing doesn't help either. I'd love nothing more than to go into the girls' section and find a pair of shorts that have more than two inches of fabric in the crotch! But that is another subject.....
since I am 18 (much older now)....sm

Sounds like you need to find a good one, #1, and #2, one who really specializes in the cervical spine (mine does - he does it all, but he really specialiizes in the head and neck).

Hope you feel better very soon!!!

Older seems better to me
I've edited tons of MTs and I feel the older ones are usually wayyyy better!! Grammer, punctuation, medical terminology, reliability, the whole thing!
I got $1.00 says I'm older than you LOL
but I don't trust the corporate news primarily because their MAIN function is to frighten, titillate, and distract.

If you want to get a handle on all that fear, do more research on just how much and how often your government is lying to you with regard to foreign policy (and domestic as well).

9/11 was preventable - but your government would rather use the fear generated from it to SCARE people into submission than wage any proper investigation. If anyone thinks the official story is the WHOLE story, they must be smoking crack.

I am *rarely* scared, but I spend a lot of time being upset at the corruption in our government - and how easily good people believe just about any story it chooses to tell (via the corporate media)...

:)
No not really. I look older but not fatter.

How old is John Travolta anyway.  He was so cute in Grease too.  Loved his dancing and now I just wonder if he has the same moves since he gained weight.  He didn't look all that bloated in Pulp Fiction either.  It's just lately he has looked too heavy for his frame.

And what do you consider an older woman?

I can assure you that I'm not an older woman.  Thirty is not old.  I still get carded buying alcohol.  I've never bleached my naturally blonde hair either.  The clothes aren't skimpy.  I have full coverage with nothing hanging out.  I certainly don't shop in the plus or women sized departments either.  It's just a change from slob mode, which is the point I was trying to make.  Women will feel and look younger by taking a few moments to care about their appearance.  Try some trendier clothes, a new hairstyle, a touch of makeup.  Besides, if I was a fat, ugly, old lady as you're implying, troll, hubby would tell me.  He's the one who didn't like my "comfortable" work clothes to begin with.

I have an older model sm
Can't use it while I'm typing. If I crank the massage action up so that my back feels good, then there is too much vibration and I literally cannot focus on the monitor. I am not sure if the newer models are like this or not.
BTW, just FYI, my kids are a tad older...sm

than your older children.....25 and 23....didn't want you to think I'm a real old biddie....*lol*

Hope you resolve things....sounds like a family therapy would help solve because if you don't resolve....these buildups you get....will continue until you die.  Best get into some therapy - it works WONDERS if one applies it!  *S*

Best of luck!!

I WAS only joking, I'm a yr older than U..sm

Sorry if I offended you, I was joking because I'm older and I do read many blogger sites of much older, more journalistic type writers, and famous people who are also bloggers.

Again, sorry for any offense taken, none was meant!

well I'm older than y'all and I can tell you....sm

I got less than a decade on you but it starts happening around 40+ (*winks at the 39 y/o poster) and it happens.  At 40, I started writing down lists, whereas prior I never needed a list (to go shopping, let's say).  About halfway through my 40s, it was "where are my keys and/or my eyeglasses" things.  I talked to a bunch of women who confirmed this (older than me).  Now, I do the room - "why did I just walk in here?" - thing.

I try not to worry about it.  I had a dad (who died nearly 2 years ago at a very old age and more than twice my age *S*) whose short-term memory was not great from his 60s on into his 90s, but his long-term memory was so EXCELLENT that he could tell you a story about a horse, his neighborhood, and a situation that he experienced at 5 years old (an emotional trauma) with such clarity and lucency, you could picture the entire situation yourself.  That, in and of itself, amazed many!

So, don't beat yourselves up about this stuff.  There are lots of books out about this very subject.  When you think about these things, well....what's the alternative?  (I'm thinking some extra serotonin *LOL*) - but really, these things will occur and I'm not choosing the alternative, that's a given (i.e., death).  *LOL*  So, I'll live with these challenging things happening and try not to kick myself every time I mess up.

I will tell you I am much better about my keys and eyeglasses today because I made places for them to sit (if I remember to not toss them wherever *LOL*)

You are all not alone, that's a given too

I have noticed this myself as well, although I am a little older than you (49). SM
My short term memory has been declining. Just nice to know somewhat else has noticed this too. Not all in my head.
In your older computer you probably already
put a lot of stuff into the dictionary/spellchecker, which unless you have a backup of the directory you have to start all over again.
When you get older, more anxiety?
I am in the 60s now so don't know about it getting worse. Am looking forward to a high school reunion this weekend. I only have anxiety if I have to speak in front of a lot of people or even stand on a stage in front of people. I love my home and so love being able to work from home but as far as anxiety escalating in later years, ?? same as before for me.
It is actually not an older program. One of our sm
hospitals just got it and it is the newest version. It is one of the ones that has been around the longest, but they are constantly changing and improving it. I have a few MTs that hate it, a few that love it and a few that could care less either way. Like anything else, it is a matter of personal preference.
Unless you have an older computer all you need to do
is stick the flash drive in a USB port. I go into Windows Explorer and click and drag my file into whatever drive the flash drive is. Very easy to do. I would not want to use a flash drive either unless the teacher is going to download it immediately and give it back.
We have 3 receivers. Two are older ones

where you pretty much have to point the remote directly at the box.  The newer one where you can be anywhere in the room is DRD435RH.  This is about 4 years old, so I would think the DVR should be able to do the same thing.

We have favorites, but at least 2 other options, maybe 3, where you can block certain channels so it is like having favorites.  I like the DIY type channels and DH does not.  It has my channels blocked as he is a surfer and blocking mine eliminates having to go through all mine.  When I want to watch I switch to all channels.

If you go to Direct's website they might have the info more detailed.

Which one did you get...the older one or the newer one?
The ergopro is the newer one and has a USB connection.  The older one has a PS/2 connection.  The older one is far better in my opinion.  Lot of good reviews on the older Belkin board on both Amazon and Newegg.  Excellent key touch but it is a loud keyboard just to warn you.  I loved it and still continue to use it but I found that it was harder for VR because it is a big keyboard so I using a smaller split board now.  The only disadvantage to the Belkin ergoboard older model is the key markings wear off quite quickly.
it was supposed to be the older one, SM

but the seller sent me a plain, flat, dirty keyboard!  I was sooo mad.  Fortunately I complained enough and sent him copies of receipts from Amazon showing it was supposed to be the Belkin ergo (he insisted he clearly stated what he was sending) that he has finally agreed to send my money back.

So, as soon as he refunds my money (I got an e-mail from Amazon saying I should be getting it soon), I will look for the older one that you are talking about.

Thanks for sharing your experiences! :)

Chickadee

Use older version
Thanks Renee.  I have already uninstalled and reinstalled so many different versions and none of them work.  I tried to convert the .dss file using that convert program, I forget what it is called, it's free from NCH, but it wouldn't convert it.  But I will try it again and let you know what happens.  Thanks again for your ideas.
Like everything else, older ones work the best
I do have one very old keyboard that I have on hand -- just in case but the only thing I don't like is it is not wireless and it still has all the keys on it.  I think it is from my very first computer.  Justs like us "old broads" the don't make them like they used to and the newer ones just don't last.
I usually feel bad for the older

I also feel bad when I see an older person eating alone at a restaurant.  When I say older, I mean 75+.  I feel like inviting them to sit with us, but that would be too weird.

I also feel bad for people with no insurance or people that will not fill scripts because of the cost.
