near the Hudson River....6 inches on the ground and still comin' down....light and powdery...just trying to keep up the sidewalk and steps is arduous....Add insult to injury, everyone's out there trying to shovel when the snowplow came by and blew everything right back up on 'em....They're lookin' at freezing rain on top of it.  Luckily, we were raised to have alternate sources of heat available....I wouldn't give up my kerosene heaters for the world.   Cat

I am originally from the NE too
I personally would not live over in Tampa as it is a military town with the bars and fast food joints and some very nice places to rent but very pricey for what you get.  In Clearwater I paid about $1,000 for a 3-bedroom apartment in a nice area.  Management could have been more on top of things but we were going through the "let's go condo" phase and as a result of the economy and many other factors, a lot of flippers got burned.  If you get out of downtown Tampa or even downtown Clearwater there is much that is affordable to rent.  When we came here it was not lo continue to live in the city .. we wanted water nearby and so we came to Pinellas County.  The commute is doable and many of the hospitals have incentive programs on top of their hourly rates .. the service I am with pays production, shift differentials, and has better insurance than a rather large hospital employer!  You just need to have some time to look around and get a feel for the area and not trust real estate people.  They just want a lease or a sale.  Moving anywhere new is just a mess .. with luck I won't have to do that again in a while!
This is what I went to school for originally.

The degree was called medical records technology at the time (1976).  Now it is called health information management.  After graduation you took an exam to become an ART (Accredited Records Technician).  Transcription was a part of the curriculum.  I am not sure that it would be now.  My first job was in a physician's office.  Hospital coding was all that was done at that time.  Right after I went to work, coding came to the physician's office.  I coded, filed insurance claims, transcribed office notes, filed charts and completed records release requests.  I later became a  CMA (Certified Office Assistant) just by taking a test.  Doing all this in a physician's office was not very profitable compared to transcription.  That is why I ended up as an MT.  People who went to work in hospitals did a lot better.

I'm from Las Vegas originally.
My siblings go through new relationships every 5 years. They've been married and divorced at least three times each during my one marriage. It's almost as if many of the people in Las Vegas think nothing of marriage and commitment. I know it's a generalization, but maybe there are more fish down there to play with? My brother's wife just walked out on him after he put her through college because she met someone else. My siblings don't hang out in bars or gamble or anything. I don't know why they keep meeting up with users.

supposed to have started Monday but so many parents beat up on the school board that they delayed it a "whopping" 2 days.

At least our school board didn't get by with spending the $100 million on laptops for students!   It's a shame it took a judge to block them and put an end to that nonsense.   Speaking of which, I would expect that Apple will be having a huge sale on laptops soon since they've been blocked from selling the 63,000 laptops to the school system!

That's the whole point of this thread.
Originally I was going with a hat from Fredericks of Hollywood of all places BUT- sm
then I changed my mind when I found a veil I loved at a consignment store about 2 months before the wedding. So I returned the hat which I had bought about 8 months prior to the wedding. They were real good though and took it back (plus I told them I'd prove I hadn't gotten married yet if necessary). Glad I went for the veil instead of the hat though it was 90 degrees on the day we got married in June....hot!
weren't these shoes originally called...sm
to me, crocs would be made out of crocodiles (I do live in Florida *LOL*).....what you all describe sounds like the *jellies* my daughter wore when she was 10 or 12.
I'm an on-site, hoping to work at home soon. I originally (s/m)
got into MT for the flexibility, but over the years on-site MT where I work has no flexibility at ALL. They stand there all day looking over our shoulders, monitor our bathroom breaks, and even go into apoplexy if there is a gap of more than 30 seconds or so between finishing one report and starting another. Who needs THAT? And the OFFICE POLITICS.... OMG... I'm so sick to death of office politics, power struggles and back-stabbing. I would rather do ESL doctors all day long, by MYSELF, in the peace and quiet of my own home, on a flexible schedule so I can go outdoors in the daytime once in a while, and maybe get enough exercise that I won't become fat like all the rest of them in my office. After being an MT for more years than I care to admit, I know that money isn't EVERYTHING. It's not always how much you have, but how well you MANAGE what you do have. So at this point in my life, I'm ready to have fewer dollars in my wallet, and more peace in my life.
I didn't originally plan on it. At the time I learned about - sm
MT, my sister had just started doing MT for a local hospital, and was learning on the job. I was a temp. office worker at the time, couldn't really find anything that was a good fit. My sis thought I'd be good at MT, and I came to visit her at work one day and she let me listen to and try to transcribe some tapes that she was already finished with. I liked it, so went to night school to learn medical terminology. I was offered a job at a transcription company (using mag-card typewriters back then, which were the 'latest thing') and have been doing MT ever since.
I just moved from PA
to the Bay Area and I have to agree, it is more expensive to live in the northeast and it does not seem like there are any type of programs to help people out. Here in CA PG&E is offering everyone regardless of economic status a rebate if they are able to conserve 10% this winter. Whereas I just read a while ago that in the PA they recently passed some kind of law or the like where the electric/gas company can turn people's electric/gas off in the middle of winter. That is just cruel.
that is what I moved from
Last neighborhood I came from was brand new and in 3 years turned into the hood. I know exactly what you are talking about. That is why I am so irritated to feel like I am back there with just 1 neighbor who happens to be my closest one. They are screaming as we speak. Agh!
It gets moved around, but it is definitely out there.

We've gotten 81 entries from people who have FOUND IT so far!  Keep lookin!

GOOD LUCK!

They are still using that but have moved to

I moved very close to but not on ...
Makemoney Avenue.

Considering the taxes I pay, I think I should have bought the one on that street.
Also moved to Amherst
All these different accounts every day - it's so hard to keep everything straight. I am so slow and less productive now - and who is there to call - do you know we got swallowed by Amherst and I have no contact information for anyone. It's so darn depressing!
Fired from one and moved to another
What is the point
I'm from Portland, but we moved to SM

Nebraska last July.  (We actually lived in Gresham.) I really miss Oregon so much!  I worked at Kaiser and loved it there.

I thought the program at Mt. Hood Community College was really great.  It really prepared a new MT.

:) Are you from the Portland area?  If you went to the AAMT convention last May I was there!  My first convention.  It was fun.

Have a great day, Patti! :)

No......I never had this happen until I moved to VA - sm
Before that lived in PA and MD, no one ever took my bags out to my car (or even asked), so no, this is not the norm.
Who has moved from company to
company the most times? I had steady work and employed many years before I started working at home for nationals.
Has anyone ever moved to another country and kept their job? sm

I want to know this because my fiancee is in the military and will be going to the UK for a few months and I want to go with him but keep my job.  Is this even possible?

Thanks

I thought they had moved
I had been hearing that this board was now being run by an offshore company, but I wasn't sure. Oh well, I'll wait for MTstars.net to get up and running.
This relates to all MTs so I have moved it here. (nm)

When a post is moved to the --sm
appropriate board, why are the reply/replies not also moved? Researched the post about an angle, found it, and posted it.  When it was moved to the word board, my reply was not included.
Moved: Reply...
I think you're having a hard time getting on with the nationals because they want 3-5 years recent experience. I would suggest you keep at it with the clinic notes and try to find a company that does hire "newbies", even though we both know you aren't. After a year or 2 back in the biz, you should be able to get in with the nationals. I doubt much that a certificate would help the situation you're in.

I personally do not use autotext and prefer Instant Text, but that is a matter of opinion. I have used Autotext. Try and get all titles in; i.e, history of present illness, etc. Also try to get all the drugs in that you can and if they have standard dosages, put those in also; i.e., asp8 would spell out aspirin 81 mg p.o., daily - that sort of thing. Also you do not have to look up if they are generic or trademark. I do Lasix 20 mg as las20, las 40, etc. Any drug abbreviations are a big help. I think you can make macros with Autotext. If I have a doc I do all the time, I copy and block the whole report such as H&P, consult, etc., and take out all the information that is not perinent and leave in things that the doc would say all the time - aaox3 = allert and oriented X3, etc. If she/she dictates the same patterned report (because they are generally required to dictate under a certain format per the hopital), I have the advantage of having all the titles in there along with his/her PE. I make a template. Also, I like 8 o'clock coffee brand - it is more concentrated.
I have used it and moved up to Dragon -sm
Honestly the one on word worked just about as well as Dragon. But, that said, I no longer use either one. My shoulders and my neck quit hurting but the time took to go back and correct mistakes was to time consuming to make it worth it. You really have to be willing to invest a lot of money into a microphone and even then, you might get 70% accuracy tops. Unless you really wanted to shell out some big bucks and get Dragon Medical, I think you will find it a big hassle. My production did not go up at all, but I was in less pain :) Go spend $20 and buy a head set and give it a shot, but be prepared to be disappointed.
Has the computer been moved lately? You may want to
look inside the computer to make sure all the components are still securely attached to the motherboard. If you are not accustomed to doing this yourself, take it to a tech. It also could be dirty with dust. Many computers need a good cleaning a couple times a year. Buy air cleaner for computer and open up the case and spray away the dust. It would be a number of things but this is a start.
Just moved my leg, my Schipperke is under there too- ahhhh--sm
now the Husky's head is on my right foot (foot pedal foot), boy the reason I moved my left foot was so he could move his head in the first place and I stepped on the other dog. Well at least the lab is not under there too.
Wonder why it was moved to the company board
???
Just moved out of a rental. This just burns me up..

We just bought a house and moved out of a renal townhome that is owned by a huge property management company.  I always always go the extra mile to make sure I leave a place clean, way more than a lot of people.  I spent hours cleaning and we didn't leave a single speck of anything in that house.  The carpets were immaculate because we had plastic runns in the high traffic areas, etc.  I scrubbed baseboards, window sills, floors, painted over all the scratches and nail holes (same paint), everything.  Got our refund yesterday on the deposit and they charged us for ELEVEN HOURS of cleaning.  In the description they said that this that and the other thing was VERY dirty, counter tops being one thing.  I swear I scoured the counters with cleanser not long before I finished the job.  I find it very offensive to have all these things listed as VERY dirty.  They're full of you know what.  Do you think it's just a racket to ding you for more money?  They also charged us 160 dollars to shampoo those perfectly clean carpets. It seems like cleaning that is not beyond the usual amount should be THEIR responsibility as part of the business of renting out their units.  They just want to pass on everything including routine maintenence onto their tenants.  Just had to vent.

Lived there for 20 years, moved
back up north 5 years ago, so glad I did.  Would't even visit family down there after I moved.  Now all family has moved back up with us.  Wouldn't ever, ever go in July or August, the heat and humidity are so bad. 95 degree heat and 90% humidity.  Its like trying to breath in a suana or steam bath.   Storms every afternoon.  The bugs are terrible also.
That's exactly what I did - moved on - let them find their own people

Just moved to Vegas a month ago.
Having a hard time here. I end up working all the time because I have nothing to do and I do not know anyone.
I've had a job like that... I moved on. Be proactive.

Just moved to a rural area
Have a satellite dish, no cable.  The phone company out here does not provide ULD.  One job I would like you need ULD, and the other you need internet access, no satellites accepted.  Does anyone have any ideas?  Is there a way you can get even dialup without having to use long distance?
Has anyone moved 3 older dogs in together? sm

Hello,

I recently got married and have a 7-year-old female  terrier-cocker spaniel, and my new husband has a 7-year-old male cocker spaniel and an 11-year-old female lab retriever.   My dog has become more aggressive against the other 2 dogs, especially over the past week, where she's not wanting them to eat or drink.  We've separated their feed/drink areas but she's still being aggressive with them.  So far she hasn't bitten one of the other dogs but has come very close to it with their fighting.   Fortunately his dogs only fight back when she actually attacks them and ignore her when she's just growling and barking at them, so that cuts down on the number of dog fights.

Does anyone have any other ideas on how to get her to be nice to his dogs?

Thank you. I moved it to this Main board. (nm)

I have done that. Found my match. Moved up
Before any asks: MQ.

Before any complains: Every company has those who love it, like it, have no opinion, don't like it, hate it. Every single one of them. It has worked well for me and I wouldn't leave it for anything.

And that's my story, I'm happy to say!

It means moved to another forum...
one that the moderator feels is more appropriate to the topic.
No.....moved on to different dictation system....sm

When my PC-Dart finally crashed, I went with an Orator and now use DocShuttle and FTP site to get my voice files.

I made calls when i moved here from OH
I was told I did not. I asked a few sources because I am NOT running a company and do not need a DBA. I guess that may change if someone files a complaint, but I am not going to do it if I don't have to.
Your post will probably get moved to the Gab Board. We

Hey Blondee,

What language did you're folks speak before they came here to the great melting pot?....Did they come through Ellis Island, Angel Island, on the Mayflower or in the bottom of a ship in shackles...We're all immigrants....unless, of course, you're a Native American or Inuit.

I speak a few languages and had gotten called outta my office at any given time to translate in the ER or OR. If it helped to save someone's life and/or calm a family's nerves, that was cool with me.

It would be nice if everyone just spoke the king's English.

Theodore Roosevelt on Immigrants and being an AMERICAN

Are we "SLOW LEARNERS" or what?

Theodore Roosevelt on Immigrants and being an AMERICAN

"In the first place we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the man's becoming in very fact an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag, and this excludes the red flag, which symbolizes all wars against liberty and civilization, just as much as it excludes any foreign flag of a nation to which we are hostile...We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language...and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

Theodore Roosevelt 1907

it was moved for a reason, but I'm with you - we won't read yours.
puh-lease, moderator, stop this subject...the whole thing is a rerun.
I think they've mostly moved everything offshore. nm

Moved to main board for more to see...sm
We are not endorsing nor advertising this product. This post was on the New MT/Student board and is a nice discount for all of our MTStars posters, so I thought I'd bring it out for everyone to see.

Thank you Danny!
