I started out as a clerk in a medical records department many moons ago, worked with three two kids, took my accreditation exam to receive my A.R.T. (accredited records technician) one week after having my third child, continued on to manage several different medical records department, then decided I no longer could handle the hassles at home and hassling with docs to complete their records. It was at that point, I aimed for full-time transcription. Have been pretty satisfied with this decision for 20 years... BUT, it is hard work juggling school, work and family. No time for yourself, etc.
