Agree. 9 cents/min does not sound like a bargain
With unlimited long distance plans, it seems that you should be able to offer the service for much less.. IMHO.

Ouch!!!
How long before you were back xcribing? I fractured mine last Friday and cannot reach the mouse without it being painful or feeling like the break is popping in and out. I am in a figure 8 harness. Not very comfortable to say the least.
Wow!!!!??????? What is ouch about it???
Why would that hurt? It is soap. You use it on your hands and it doesn't hurt. Geez!!!!!!!!!
ouch
I cannot get past her look - can you say Elf???
Ouch!
I am sorry your postings included corrections on your spelling, etc. We all make mistakes. I would never point out mistakes from an email to a coworker of mine and we are all transcriptionists and friends also. I like to think we are all on the same team! Anywho, I have never been stalked in that way, but I would block e-mail also and use the same ideas the other ladies had about this. I'm sure they will get the hint! Hopefully "they" will get the hint and leave you alone soon. I wouldn't advise going any further really. I think it would be a waste of your time and energy which could be better used finding the perfect job for you! I would just chalk it up to the fact that I am so wonderful that companies are actually stalking me for my expertise! Good luck in your search for a new job, friend.
Ouch!

Can't really say it's the thought that counts with something like that, huh?  What  a kick in the nuts.

The sad part is, I felt guilty asking but I feel cornered.  I'm the sole support of my busted-a$$ 2-member household and the oil tank is empty, has been since last winter, and the cost of firewood went up, food went up, electricity, etc.  I'm watching my little American Dream go right down the crapper and frankly it's scaring the heck out of me.  Someone was mentioning abdominal pains the other day on here...I haven't poo'd in about a week--I kid you not.  I get so jealous when I hear others say they only have to work part-time or not work at all because hubby brings in the cash and bennies, but I'm really just wishing I could be them!

Oh well.  At least we got dental benefits so now I can almost afford to get my teeth looked at for the first time in 20 years!  Only lost one in the interim!

Ouch---Just trying to help her out
She's a widow (husband did not have life insurance), lost her job about a month ago, and is seeking anything to pay the bills.  She is not a Transcriptionist and transcription is only a VERY SMALL part of the job she's applying for.  However, as we all know, most of us use our spellcheck on a regular basis, or at least our lovely specialty dictionary, and she thought the job would work out okay when being able to utilize the spellchecker.  I have to agree with her on that point.  The spelling test she has to take is a written test before ever even being allowed to take the transcription part of the test and is not over basic terms, grammar, and such but over police type terms, which commoners would not use on a daily basis.
ouch...
I am hoping it is something simple like the video card but if it is the motherboard I need to weigh my options...I have a laptop that I got brand new at Christmas time so I really could wait for another desktop for a while...but then if I wait something might happen to the laptop...in my mind anyway---lol...
Appendicitis...ouch!.........sm
Right lower quadrant... and "VERY" tender on palpation.
Ouch, that's the pits

I worked for hospitals on Long Island in the early 1980s, and I was getting $8.00 per hour with benefits. And in those days, you didn't have to pay for medical insurance.

Ouch....worse than me...sm
It's been 10 years for me too, but I do occasionally manage a weekend if I work 14 hour week days.  Usually work 11-12 hour days.  I'm having a light day today which is extremely unusual.  I have 4 years to go and sometimes not sure I'll make it!
Wow. Popup ad. Ouch!
Am I the only one that got nailed with a mosquito-buzzing popup ad when clicking a link to read a message today? As a transcriptionist, my headset is almost always on and normally at full-blast as well. I understand MTStars need for advertising support, but is there a way to limit it to silent adverts only? That nearly blew my eardrums!
Ouch! HAHA :)

OUCH! Bet that hurt!!

Sony ones
Would these be the fold-up Sony® MDR-A35G Sports Headphones?
If so, um... they look like earbuds or at least work the same way. I need a regular headset -- something I can grab off in one easy movement without tangling in my hair (for those quick get-aways)
Sony
Sony USED to be good; I have three newer ones and they ALL are like that.  I pay 100.00 - 125.00 to have them "fixed" and they work for a day or two and then back to more of the same.  Save your money and don't buy these anymore until they fix them.  I personally will never buy another one again.  It is like a bottomless money pit for me at 600.00 plus and then every 6 months or so another 125.00 for each one.  I was wondering if I were the only one.  Now I know they all are probably the same worthless pieces of junk.  I'm off to buy new ones and they definitely won't be Sony!
Sony for sure
I didn't have the exact same pair as the above poster, but they were Sony's for about $50 at Walmart. Just some earbuds that were supercomfy, crisp sound and had a nice long cord. I think they were actually marketed for the iPods.

Unfortunately, they didn't work too well once my dogs got hold of them. :-(
Well I'm doing this full time and ouch !!!

How do you make any money???? Typing and shortcuts is not the problem but trying to figure out some of what the dictators are saying is time consuming... How do you make money????????????

Though I love the research and find this interesting 40.00 a day is not going to cut it... Does it get better?????  I feel stupid !!!!!!!!!!!!!

pt does get her mammagram daily. LOL ouch sm

GYN HISTORY

G2, P2.  Her pregnancies were uncomplicated.  She has not seen a gynecologist in over two years, but she does get her mammogram daily.    Uhhh.... I don't think so Mr. MD!!!   You couldn't get me to do that daily if ya paid me!

Ouch! How'd you do that? You'll get used to using the other foot.
I had to use my other foot for a while because my sciatica was acting up. Hope you feel better soon!
OUCH!!!! think I'll pass on the....nm

IC MT to Unit Secretary - sm
Do you like to answer the phone? Do you like to file? Do you like to have people order you around? Are you neat and organized? Can you do three or four things at once? If yes, then go for it. The hours 7 pm to 7 am may not be as busy as when I worked during the day, but your hospital may well be busier, depending on what type of unit you're on. I learned a tremendous amount working as a unit secretary, one thing being I didn't want to be around people anymore, the pubic being the most obnoxious of them all. An doctors in person can be very arrogant too; a lot different than on the other end of the line. Don't know how you will do those hours with small children, but good luck to you.
IC to unit secretary

You brought up some excellent points!  Since you have done both US and MT, you definitely would say that you prefer the MT over the unit secretary?

Thanks for your input!!

Go for the best! Sony, Philips - anything over $50.
Minimum $50 for a good pair. It never ceases to amaze me that MTs spend under $10 for the very thing that makes or breaks their work - Everything is based on what we hear. The difference is phenomenal between a cheap $10 headset and a good $50 and up one. Treat yourself well and go for a good set - again anything Sony or Philips over $50 - wireless are great - Sony makes a great rechargeable wireless. I prefer the Philips regular set that runs around $50. I can hear anything and everything perfectly, while my coworkers struggle and struggle. Invest in yourself and your career - you are WORTH IT!!
SONY DIGITAL HELP!!!

Well... this is the first time I have ever done anything like this, so bear with me!  I have recently started typing for a clinic who is using the Sony ICD-BM1 recorder.  After the doctor dictates, the office staff downloads the files from the memory stick and sends them via email.  HOWEVER, the files are HUGE.  A typical 1-2 minute dictation is coming across as 2 MB or more.  I have an 8 minute dictation that came across this afternoon that was 87 MB after I converted it from an MP3 to WAV.  I am well-versed in the Olympus DSS system and another office I type for uses it.  Typically with the Olympus system it will take 25-30 dictation (1-3 minutes each) to even equal 2 MB.  The particular office who uses Olympus is able to send me 30+ files at a time to download, whereas the office using Sony has to send them 1 at a time and usually 50% will bounce back to them.

So, my question is...  Has anybody ever experienced this problem and, if so, HOW DO I FIX IT??  The other Transcriptionist (who actually works in-office) is getting ready to go out of town on vacation and we are hoping somebody can help us learn to compress the files before she leaves so that the other office personnel won't have to mess around with it as much as we do.  TIA ~Missy

Need digital help! (Sony)

Anybody have docs who use a Sony digital recorder?  My docs are recently using them and it is turning out that a single 2 minute dictation is coming across as 2 MB or more, thus 10 dictations are coming across as 20 MB or more, which in turn are being rejected by the email server.  I have another clinic who uses Olympus DSS and it would take 30+ of 2-3 minute dictations to equal 2 MB.  Is there a setting within the recorder that needs to be adjusted to make the files smaller?  These individual files just seem so huge and it is making it difficult for the office to get them out via email because they have to be sent one at a time and I have to be on the other end to download and delete off the server before more will go through.  (I only have a 10 MB email box).  Any help would be appreciated.  TIA!

I use Sony earbuds
Bought them (Radio Shack, $59) specifically to use with my iPod, but I tried them and love them for transcription. They come with three different-sized rubber pieces to fit your ears and block out noise. I tried all three before settling on the smallest one. Warning...they block noise so well that I almost had a heart attack when DD came for a visit and appeared out of nowhere. She said she rang the doorbell, but I never heard it. I also can't hear the the keyboard clicking or the grandfather clock bonging or the phone ringing or the dogs barking or DH hollering....love these earbuds!
sony wav pedal
I am not an ignorant person but I just can't figure out this wav pedal.  Right now I am in tears because I can't get it to work.  Can anyone teach me how to get the files onto the wav player and then transcribe them?  I am so frustrated I could scream.  Any help would be great.  I have absolutely no experience in wav pedals, so I think that is my problem.  Can you help?  Is there a web site where they take you step by step through how to use it?  Thanks
Sony hook-over-the-ear (sm)
Okay, so I don't know what you really call them, but I have tried sooo many different types of earphones because I am kind of funny about what feels good on my head.
I found these little Sony earphones that have a hook that is kind of like a pair of eyeglasses that holds the sponge-covered speaker to the outside of your ear. They are on a "Y" wire, so there is nothing over the head, and you can use just one if you need an ear to hear what the kids are getting into.
I bought mine at Radio Shack for about $20.00 last year, but I've seen them other places (probably even Walmart), so I'm sure if you're interested, you can find them. Sorry I can't remember what they are called. If not, e-mail me and I will take a picture of them and send it to you.
Need transcriber unit
You need a transcribing unit that has a pedal that comes with it.  Your digital pedal will not work.  Depends on size of tape -- micro, mini or standard.
Sony Featherlight
I use Sony Featherlight Walkman headphones that you can buy at your local discount center.  They go over your head and you barely even know you have them on.  The sound is great, too!
Unit Coordinator
That was my first job in a hospital, although I had worked as an insurance examiner for an ins. company and had medical terminology.  It was actually a job I loved.  I answered the phone at the unit desk, called for missing reports needed for the patient to go to surgery.  When I did it I transferred all the doctors orders onto a cardex and filled out the necessary lab/x-ray/PT, etc. requistion slips.  I filed the lab slips and x-ray reports on the chart when they came to the floor.  When a patient coded I had to respond and take notes of when CPR was started, all meds given, who responded, time ended.  If the nurses were all busy I often answered call lights and relayed the patient's needs to the nurse caring for that patient.  I loved it because at the time my boys were little and I worked part-time 3-11.  I only needed a baby sitter for two hours till DH got home and I got full benefits for my entire family at no cost.  So besides the small check I was bringing in I was furnishing my family's medical coverage.  Every job now wants you to be certified in ACLS (Advanced Cardia Life Support)  they want you to often times be able to monitor patients if they are in CCU or ICU (that is be able to tell when something out of the norm is showing up on the monitor).  I wore scrubs, so no work clothes expense.  If the pay works for you go for it...it is totally different from MT and often times there are opportunities for advancement to other positions once you get your foot in the door.  I loved it, it was a great job.  Just be aware it is a 7-day a week position, so not every weekend off and you will work holidays, Christmas was always the worst but at least it was 3-11 so I had Christmas morning and early dinner with my family.
Sony headphones...
I LOVE my Sony MDR-NC7 headphones.  They sit right on my ears, are very comfortable, and when the noise cancelling feature is turned on, the sound is very crisp and clear.  I don't know if you are in the market for noise cancelling, but I thought I would put my two cents in, since I do highly recommend these to anyone!  I bought mine at Best Buy for $49.99.
TENS UNIT
I have used in the past all day.
Sony NC headphones...
Mine are model #MDR-NC7.  I love them, they are very comfortable to wear, as they sit right on my ears, and are very cushy!  The NC is great, I can even hear the doctors very clearly when my 4-year-old and husband are in the same room.  I bought them at Best Buy for $49.99.  I know that there are better ones out there, but for the price, I highly recommend these!
OUCH! I had a private policy with BC/BS for $180/month sm

and it was a pretty good plan -- Affordablue -- had a $25 copay for office visits or something like that.  That was just a single plan, though.  It included dental coverage too, bot other than covering for routine cleaning and such, it was kind of useless when paying for crowns and other "big" items.

Sounds like you have a good deal.  Fortunately, I am working for Transtech now and have affordable insurance .. whew!

Oh, ouch! I hope things improve soon!
That's the very reason I've never took that plunge into independent...it's just so HARD for you guys. Hats off to you for all your hard work. Good luck.
Ouch. I happen to agree with her. 15 years sm
here - and I would not recommend this field to anyone. She asked for opinions and we gave ours - we did not "make" our problems anybody else's.
Get a pair of Sony earphones. sm

Like the ones kids plug into a portable disc player.  I'm not talking about the "cheapies" that most kids use for the disc player with the little foam rubber spongy thingys.  Get yourself a decent set that have "faux leather" with the big padding that cover both ears. You won't hear a thing outside of your earphones. Make sure the ear things cover both ears and have a lot of cushioning.  A good pair might cost you 20 or 30 bucks, but is well worth it.

Good luck and godspeed MT comrade! :)

.

Just make sure the earphone attachment is the same size as your speakers.

I bought my Sony and Panasonic new on
ebay for about $40 apiece.  That's been 5 years ago now.  I use them both weekly.  I don't know what the difference is between a Pearlcorder or any other machine.
Could also be life support unit. nm

I agree with Former Unit Secretary sm
Great job, learned a hell of lot, meds, diseases, etc., but I worked days and weekends, notoriously busy, busy, busy, and saw a lot that I just didn't like. Staff personalities are really much worse behind the nursing station than they are on the floor, believe me.  Got tired of getting reamed by doctors who thought I was the nurse just because I answered the phone. I never had as much problem with IBS as I did then. If anything went wrong, a med order, lab order, whatnot, it fell on my shoulders. You need a tough skin to work days, nights might be easier, who knows. My skin thinned out faster with that job than 13 years of prednisone usage did. Good luck
Anyone work with a Lanier VTI unit?
Just started today for a new service.  I have plugged in the  Lanier VTI unit and have checked the connections; they all seem to be correct.  I can dial in to the hospital system and access a report, but the foot pedal won't work.  My MTSO is calling in a technician but I hope it's not something silly I'm overlooking.  Any suggestions?
Does anyone own a Sony Vaio laptop? Can you tell me what you think? nm
Thanks!
Lanier is a digital unit
There is a screen on the front of the unit letting you know the job information, number of minutes, dictator, etc.  The unit itself utilizes a phone line.  The dictators call the server and record their dictation.  You access their dictation through the Lanier.
sony foot pedal help

I lost the disk to download the installation for my Sony FS-85USB wav pedal when I moved recently.  Any one know where I can get one or download the installation? Also, lost my red line under misspelled words in Word. How do I get it back?

Your still have to have software with the handheld unit

that allows upload to FTP.  Without that, FTPVoyager is useless.  Make sure you buy handheld units that have the software capability to upload to FTP otherwise you'll be stuck.

If you find that handheld units with the upload software is out of your price range, consider the EZ-Voice solution.

Good luck!

There are Sony ones at Radio Shack sm
that were suggested to me so I bought a pair.  They are silver and look sort of like Spock ears when you have them on.  I think they come with a year warranty or maybe I bought that for a few cents, can't remember now.   I really like those.
Sony® MDR-Q22LP w.ear™ Headphones (nm)

New Sony MDR-NC7 squeezing my head

They are comfy at first but after about 20 minutes my ears are killing me and the sound is not as great as I was hoping.  Are there any other ideas.  I thought about the Koss portapro or sportapro but don't know anything about them either.  I have been using a cheap GE pair after my dog broke my good pair but have a new account that is impossible to hear on the best of days so I thought now is a good time to get a replacement.  Unfortunately the Sony's just aren't the ones I'm looking for.  I can't handle anything over this price range though.

I know a group of Docs (GPs) that type their own notes!!! OUCH! nm
