By the way, I use Hughes Net......
Sorry, I didn't respond to your e-mail. I erased it before I hit the reply button. But I am with Hughes Net and though they are a little costly to start with, they have worked well for me. Look for the rebate offers.....Good luck!
Hughes

I have seen this advertized on TV, don't know a thing about it.  But might check it out to see if any better e., some technology the other satellite  service

I have hughes.net, no problems. nm

hughes network
I had them also before as I live way out there. They sound a little better than Wildblue but I still had many problems and felt they were not much faster than dial up either. We now also have DSL with windstream and even though it is the slowest connection that windstream has, it is better than dialup or satellite. I enjoy it also. To get started with Hughes network it cost me $800.00 to buy the dish and $60.00 a month. I still have the dish on the house and have no use for it. I too am happy with my DSL.

I just noted it did not post.  Check it out and see if maybe their technology is more advanced.o
I have hughes (used to be Direcway) and have had for 4 years. sm
With my older system (2-way direct) I had problems when there were bad storms, etc. Now that I finally broke down and upgraded to the DW7000, it has been smooth sailing. I have had it since September 2006 with approximate downtime of maybe 30 minutes since then. Now, since this is my livelihood, I do keep peoplepc as a backup just in case! Overall though I am very happy with satellite and since I live in the boonies, it is either satellite or dialup - gimme satellite any day of the week! Have a wonderful day!!!!!!!!
I would recommend Hughes satellite........sm
I live in rural East Texas....okay, a long way from Oregon...but it worked very well for me for several years until I finally got DSL through my phone company.

As another poster mentioned, extreme weather does affect it, but I have transcribed right on through some pretty cloudy weather. As long as you have an exposure to the southern sky, you should be okay.

Another point I would mention is that there are limitations to the amount of information you can download in a 24-hour period. If you use your computer for anything other than work...for example watching videos or movies or even major surfing...I would go with the professional package which allows more download than the lowest priced package. I discovered my son had watched some videos online and I got locked out a couple of times until I caught onto what was happening.
Anyone have Direcway/Hughes.net satellite? Have a problem with VPN....sm
I have been connecting through a VPN with my FP office as they have EMR.  Suddenly on Monday morning I wasn't able to connect.  I was able to Sunday night.  I had an engineer come by and check everything out.  He was able to connect with my password at his house but not via my satellite.  Has this ever happened to any of you?  I will lose this account if I can't get it working.  I am out in the country and can't get an other fast Internet provider.  Hughes.net does say on their website that VPNs don't always work.  It is just weird that it worked one day and not the next.  I called Hughes and they said they didn't do any updates or anything.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks!
direcway has not been a "company" since at leat 09/2006. They are now hughes. sm
Service is great. Tech support stinks cause it is done in a different country. Been with direcway (now Hughes) for 5 years. wound not change.
Horrible experience with Wildblue ~ I would recommend Hughes sm
over Wildblue. I use AT&T wireless, much cheaper start up, about the same monthly, and much more reliable. If it will not work with wireless, I doubt it will work well with Satelite either.
Have had Hughes for 5 years (used to be Direcway) great internet service sm
but truly hate if I have any kind of problem and have to call in. Luckily that is rate to nonexistent.
