Most of us get paid on a 65-char line.

Here's a sample of the type of wording in typical reports. One way is counting by the word, with each line having 8 words. The other is with a 65-char line.

With the 8-words system, the character number varies per line, but would not add up to 65 characters unless you were typing a lot of long medical terms.

1. The patient states that he has had this problem -- 47 char
2. for a long time, but he is unwilling to -- 38 char
3. go through any type of surgery at this time. -- 44 char

1. The patient states that he has had this problem for a long time, -- 65 char
2. but he is unwilling to go through any type of surgery at this time -- 65 char

I may be missing something, but if the reports are pretty typical transcription, it looks to me like you'll come out better with the word count by approximately one extra line per every three lines.
