That happened to me once... guns drawn out in front yard..

In Reply to: Wow! I just looked outside to see five cop cars parked - nosy home based worker

lived in a track house, so houses were real close together.  Turns out the single woman living next door who seemed to have no end to her money to buy nice stuff was running a racket out of her house, somehow tapping into computers in warehouses for big companies and having merchandise like applicances and computers sent to people without them having been paid for.  FBI surrounded the place, digging in trash, etc.  They finally got her and she went to federal prison for a while, then came back and skipped parole and they were back for her again.  Weird.

It's what I was drawn to as a new MT...
and it's because I found it the easiest.  Most of the pt's have similar things going on and it's easy to get familiar with the terminology and drugs, in my opinion.  I still feel at home with cardiology, even though I do just about everything now and don't get it as often as I used to.  It's one of the better ones to start with, in my opinion.
Stick to your guns
They all think being a grown up is so great until they get there.  Stay strong.  If you give in and let her jump ahead then tomorrow she will become bored with this and want something even more.  They grow up soon enough.
Try the front jack on the front of the CPU if it has one- or on the
it if is not pushed in all the way, sound will only be in one ear.
yeah get the spelling right, or you will be drawn and quartered.

Stick to your guns!! I went through the same thing

with my husband always trying to help out one of "best buddies."  I went through this twice, with two different useless house guests.  The second time, I told hubby to go and take his "friend" with him.  After he had a little time to think it over, he realized that home and his family were lot more appealing.  Your husband will come around, especially if his family is supporting you.  Just go on with your life and let him think it over.  One word of advice, and this is what we did, when my husband wanted to come back home, we made an agreement NO MORE HOUSE GUESTS unless it was immediate family in a dire emergency, and then there would be a time limit set when they came to stay and it would be enforced.  Be strong and Good Luck!

Glad you stuck to your guns!
.
Congrats on sticking to your guns
I worked for a company as a so called IC.  Then all of a sudden we had 4 days to decide if wanted to be an employee and if not had to incorporate.  4 days is not enough time to do that so I became employee.  I think it is a control issue!!  They will tell you when, how and where.  It all comes down to how high do you want to jump?  :)  For some not high enough.  When they want to start furnishing the computer, the reference materials, benefits, etc. then it is worth looking at.  That to me is an employee.  Until then.....
Very proud of you, you stick to your guns, and when the going gets tough,
be even stronger.  Tie another knot and all of that.  You are on the way to a healthier life for you and your children.  You will survive.
to carry on a long drawn out thread on supervisor's woes below

Why in the world if it is so awful, so stressful, so thankless and pay is not that much more (someone posted $3 dollars an hour below), why do you continue to supervise?

Also the general tone of the supervisors is kind of like they don't really like or respect the MTs.  Is that healthy?

What can we use on the yard for fleas? I got a
cocker spaniel a few months ago to go along with the cats but since the end of June/beginning of July we have been fighting fleas. I'm surrounded by neighbors who both have 2 dogs but their backyard grass is about 3 feet high so now matter how much spraying I do in the yard, the fleas still comes back. I've had the yard and house sprayed a few times this month but the fleas keep coming. We never have a problem with fleas until summer months. I just wish the neighbor would cut his grass more than 3 times a year.
yard work

Did some yard work.  My husband mowed the lawn Friday evening.  Got delayed for half an hour because I disturbed a yellow jacket nest.

Went to a state park in the p.m. and watched my baby while my husband fished.  Didn't catch any as raine poured on us, so we ate at a nearby fish restaurant and got us some good good fried catfish.  HHHHmmmmmmm good.

Yard sale
The 4th would be okay if your area gets a lot of traffic. A lot of people "running around" on the holiday weekend. I have known people who did very well on holiday weekends.

Just to warn, clothes don't sell well. Toys, baby items, household items are good sellers. I like to price toward the lower end so that I get rid of it. Those who price high take the risk that the buyer won't bother to "haggle". But you should stand firm if you feel a price is fair, maybe give in if it is getting towards the end of the day.

Have a good one!!!
Having my first yard sale. Any suggestions?

It will be some time in July.  Any particular weekend that would be best?  Probably not around the 4th because people will be out of town, right?

Have lots of clothes and other stuff.  Anything that I haven't used in the last 6 weeks or that was not a gift is going.  No more clutter for me!

I've never had a yard sale before.  Is there anything I should know?  Oh, and I hate to haggle.  Should I price to high and take the first offer or just price low and stand firm (who me?).  I'm not looking to make a fortune.  I just want to get rid of my junk and have a little to show for it.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Anyone ever have problems with sink holes in your yard?
My grandson was just walking across the yard and his foot gave way and went down to his waist. There are other areas, some large where the ground appears to have sunk somewhat. They live in southeast georgia. If you have experienced this, please share.
Camping in the back yard with the kids sm
when they were small. We had the most fun there than anywhere we went. We had big bonfires, cooked grilled cheeses over the fire and just plain fun. We live near the woods so we had the raccoons, etc, just like being at a campground and it was all free!
Does anyone know how to reset a DVI? I purchased one at a yard sale and *sm*
it did not come with a manual.  I am trying to use it for the first time and the dial tone comes up but it is asking for a log in ID.   I would also like to purchase a manual if anyone has one.  I do believe I can go to the DVI website and ask about purchasing one but that will not help me throughout the weekend in trying to figure out what do do now!  Assistance is greatly appreciated!
Yard sale maybe? I have a friend who made $600 in one day

Don't know what it's like wherever you live but in my town yard/garage sales are some people's weekend hobby lol. Get friends to sell stuff too so it is a big one that people will stop at, make the signs big.

hit some yard sales early in the morning

Yard sale! If you have anything in your house you can part with

have a yard sale, or post a cheap ad in those little throw away papers like Pennysaver, NOT the regular newspaper as the ads are too expensive.

Remember that things can be replaced.  Good luck!

Ants are drawn to water and some ants sugar/grease.

We have had professional exterminators and it didn't phase them.  Get Terro.  You are more likely to find it at Home Depot/Lowes than at the grocery store.  I got traps this year, put them in the places where we had the biggest problem with ants and they are gone, gone, gone.    You can mix sugar and borax with water to dissolve it and then soak cotton balls in it and place around too.  I haven't tried this, though lots of people I know have said it works.

We had ivy growing up one side of our house and the exterminator told us to get rid of it and that would help, we did and it didn't.

it's not about "quality of trailers" it's about quality of people drawn to trailers.
a trailer on a private lot is one thing. a trailer park is terrible. lots of communities zone against them.
Buying and planting a tree or shrub in their yard,
something that blooms/flowers so that they can seek comfort every year and it is symbolic too.
I worked grave yard for years but then my jobs all
disappeared by midnight. This very large company said they needed help late and I always did my work, did all the preop hps, etc., but now I am lucky to get 5 jobs a night. This happened to several others that I know, too. It is simply that the off-shore do it cheaper. I did not get paid a differential, either. I just like that shift, but I also need work, so good bye big company
Also, be careful that little girl/parents don't throw something toxic in your yard sm
for the puppy too eat.  Sad, but a lot of sickos out there.
Try ebay, yard sales, Recycled Software or BuyCheapSoftware.com
to find inexpensive software. Also, see if you can find a newer version of MS Works because I think it comes with Word now, or you can buy a standalone version of Word without springing for MS Office.

For that matter, wait until you find a job before worrying about it. Not everybody uses MS Word, and some companies provide their own software for you to use. What about going back to Medware or another company that provides software and/or equipment?
My neighbor had a golden lab that went to obedience school and was shot in their yard because of

We lived on Riverfront Drive with the river running through the back yard.
I always figured it meant riverfront property or the house was in front of the river.  LOL
Yard work, painting kitchen cabinets, sanding and priming
kitchen chairs.  This morning went out to breakfast with DH and then ran a couple of errands, have already spread weed and feed in the yard and used weeder killer in other areas, cleaned off the patio, cleaned off the bookcase in the den, recycled some stuff,  Freecycled some stuff - busy, busy, busy.
I use round glass lids from old Corningware and other glassware for all my pots. Find 'em at yard

we've lost our sense of community, no more back yard fences, no more coffee klatches
It's the sense of community we miss, and there is some semblance of it here. My son has been online since age 10, and he knows the status of the marriages and pregnancies and jobs and traumas of his gameing friends, from his age on up into the 60s, male and female. They comfort each other, congratulate each other. Ranges from students to cops to medial installers to computer geeks. It's a sense of commnity that has sprung up, but that society doesn't really recognize as REAL yet, it's too new.
Be up front

I'd be up front with them and just flat out tell them that you'd rather they didn't contact your current employer.  Most companies understand that.  Offer plenty of references so they have a way to gauge your work.

Your name sounds familiar.  You wouldn't happen to have a husband named Mikkos, would you?

Are you sure there are none on the front? sm
I have a Dell desktop, and I have 2 additional USBs on the front of the tower.
If you can put a in front of it, it is followup..sm
For example he had a followup visit scheduled. OR He is to come in for followup in 2 weeks.

He will follow up in 2 weeks. OR

He is going to follow up with me in 2 weeks.

Hope that helps

Oh honey please run don't walk, right out that door.  This man you live with is only in your life to beat you down with discouragement and lies.  Please do not allow this to continue.  You were created by one who counted the hairs on your head, is the God of the universe but he knows you by name.  He did not make you for destruction but for good.  Please take your children away from a person who would put them down, call them names and does not care one bit about their well being.  Begin to look at yourself for the wonderful, divinely created queen that you are, you have purpose and potential and this man is only there to keep you from seeing it.  The day you walk out the door and shut it a ton of weight is going to fall off your shoulders as you will begin to realize that he does not love you, he does not love anyone but himself.  You have to show your kids that you love them too much to let anybody (even their own father) treat them as less than great.  You are a woman and deserve to be cherished, protected and provided for, anything less is not acceptable.  Please go and as you do please know that myself and I am sure many other people out here are praying for you and lifting you up.  We stand in the gap for you!!  Now go girl and don't you dare look back.  Go and be fabulous!!
I agree, but front-end AVR and EMR will
the work bring back to the US, with a minimal number of MTs.
I have a cat who dashes in front of my feet
I'm thinking of using one of my dogs squeaky toys to get his attention when he cuts me off again, that will show him!
that was going to be 'question them up-front' and see how they respond..(nm)

Our cat (yes we have a zoo) plops on my desk right in front of me - sm
usually on my note pad or a patient list, makes it interesting too. But she doesn't usually stay long, and if the dogs are in she hides ---her and the Husky are mortal enemies, granted it does not help that he tried to eat/kill her a couple weeks go-- our signals got crossed and my husband let the dogs in before I could up up the gates to ensure her safety. Luckily I was right there and was able to grab the dog before anything really bad happened. So my husband learned an important lesson that day...communicate with me when you let the dogs in, or put up the gates first.
Had a drive-by shooting right in front of my
home office window in July. Unfortunately, a baby got shot in the head. I thought it was someone setting off cherry bombs or something - the pops were too close together I thought for gunfire. It was 2 girls and a stroller and they didn't even realize the baby had been shot at first. It was a big howdy-do. The cops were out here for hours, blocking off the streets so they could look for shell casings. A couple of news trucks too, although the subsequent TV news reports were somewhat inaccurate regarding the location and details. Never found out what happened to the baby.

Anyway, right after this happened, the guy and teenager kid across the street stayed away from their house for about 2 weeks after, coming by periodically to check on the mail. The cops would occasionally call on the house during that time. I never did find out what the deal was and if there was connection between these people and the shooting, but I always worry about a gang thing or a home invasion thing and they get the wrong house (mine).
OK. Now there are construction guys out front
using a big saw to cut through our new concrete sidewalks that have already been dug up twice since being put in this spring.  I can't hear to work.  They didn't even warn us of any construction or water shutoffs.  How many times do they have to dig up the same old spot this year before they get it right?
One of those would be cool for my front porch. sm
I think I would leave it up all year and decorate it for the different seasons and leave it on all night.  I used to know a lady a long time ago, giving away my age here, who had one and had it all decorated with crystal glass ornaments and red garland. I liked it but my mother said it looked like a tin can.
How did they get past the front desk and
where was security when they didn't take no for an answer the first time?  Having worked in a psych facility (which has a higher level of patient confidentially) and tyring to be "forced" into giving information not able to be given, it became natural to just say no.  NO ONE on my watch got the first hint of information they were not entitled to.  People may want information but getting it is something different.
front tooth not sure about $$ but expect....nm

You are talking about front-end VR. Not very good.
Slow learning process for the rec engine. Very tedious.
There are signs all over our hospitals right from the front

You don't need a macro. Just add a semicolon in front of
your yo abbreviation so autocorrect will back up and take out that space. Then type 34;yo and it will expand to 34-year-old.
Sorry, don't have it in front of me, only have #2 and wait to hear from others, sorry, not sure!
I haven't sprung for #3 yet, I found #2 confusing enough, just do verbatim. I may have misspoken.
Front-end/back-end systems...

"Front-end" SR means that the original dictator's speech is turned into text. "Back-end" SR means that someone listens to the original dictator, redictating and "cleaning up" the original dication.  This "sanitized" redictation is then fed into the SR engine.

The main disadvantage of "front-end" systems in the healthcare setting is that they must try to adapt to the speech peculiarities of many different dictators, whereas a "back-end" system only has to deal with the speech patterns of one dictator, namely the person who does the redictation.

Back-end dictation adds a layer of human intelligence to the conversion of speech to text because the person redictating presumably catches errors, eliminates hesitations and miscues, squares up ambiguous sentence structures, etc. - things that front-end dictation cannot do or does very poorly.  As such, while the back-end speech engine might still cause some errors that require keyboard correction, there should not be nearly as many as front-end systems produce.  And, a back-end SR application can be less sophisticated than a front-end system because it is not being required to deal with so many vagaries of human speech.  In fact, a back-end SR application does not need artificial intelligence at all, whereas front-end SR really does.
