May this person get the employee s/he deserves :(
xx
You're absolutely right - I wouldn't recommend this profession to a young person either.
and no respect for it
NO ONE deserves ...
You wrote: After all the negative messages posted here and elsewhere about this company, if you read this and still go to work for D&L, you deserve to get screwed as badly as you most assuredly will.

That's just mean. NO ONE deserves to get "screwed." Period.

I worked for them in about 2003 and they delayed my first check over 6 weeks. They should be drummed out of business.

You are right to be outraged but take it on D&L!

CALL D&L's clients and tell them to expect their records to be subpoena'd if D&L does not pay for services rendered.
Everyone on this planet deserves the right
to a decent life with their families. Offshoring the jobs in this country is going to slow destroy us. Most of our skyscrapers are owned by the Japanese. Customer Service for companies has been taken over by foreign countries . This country has so much and is so great simply because this country was created by hard work and determination. Every piece that we give away takes away from us and our children and their children, and so on. It is not a matter of wanting someone to suffer because we are not a greedy country. We do so much for other countries. But, if we don't start thinking about ourselves, we are going to speak Chinese, Japanese, and English will be the second language.
She deserves congrats because SM
the test is NOT easy.  As for the other comments (useless rules, etc.), if you are going to work for any national service or even a very large one, you HAVE to know these rules.  I guess if someone wanted to stay in the safe world of typing for the doctor down the road, the rules wouldn't make that much of a difference.
Doesn't sound like she deserves one.

The president himself deserves respect only
when he begins to show respect for the office he holds, the populace he serves, and the constitution.
Huh? Your logic is amusing. She deserves Americans looking for her?
That's just not how its done, as the poster below for eloquently explains!
You are a good daughter, more than she deserves. Bless you.

read my message again. no one deserves to be murdered. but you contribute to your
victimhood by your actions and you are more likely to be a victim because of your actions than others. i live in a safe neighborhood. i still lock my doors. i don't want to be a victim. i don't drink and drive. i don't hang out in neighborhoods where there is a lot of crime. don't you get it. you can't go to a foreign country at the age of 18, drink too much and hook up with people you don't know. you increase your odds of victimization.
MQ deserves everything it gets ladies and their day is coming when they spend more millions on
lawsuits. What goes around comes around. Enjoy it while you can.

Treat others like you

There has been a lot of discussion on this board lately about how rude and impolite some of the posters are. What we are seeing here is also what is going on in our society. It is not something that is happening only in the MT world. This is something that has been taking place in our society for years, slowly and gradually taking hold of a large number of people who find it more convenient to let their frustrations out on others than fix their own lives. Have you ever tried approaching a cashier with a smile on your face and another with a grouchy look on your face? Then you know that the one you approached with a smile on your face was friendly and polite whereas the other one wasn't. Whenever you approach others with a smile on your face you will receive that smile back, even on a message board. I ask myself if those who lash out at others on a message board do so to their family members. If so, what kind of life are you living? Or are you the one on the receiving end and come here to pass that on to the posters on the boards? What kind of life are you living? Don't you all think that living in peace and harmony will contribute to your overall well-being?

What do those who are rude and impolite to others gain? Do you really feel better afterward? Do you want others to treat you the same way? It is like a contagious disease, and it seems to be more common to lash out than to be nice as if it hurts to be nice. You should be grateful that we live in a country in which we still can practice freedom of speech, at least to a certain extent.

Hiding behind anonymity while being rude and impolite is a cowardly thing to do. Take responsibility for your actions. Better yet, think next time before you lash out at someone seeking advice and remember when you started your first job. Did you seek and receive advice? Did someone give you a tip or spend time with you to help you understand the ins and outs of a job? Or have you never received help from anyone in your whole life? We all have received some type of support, help, and/or advice that helped us get back on track or be successful. Why not pass that positive experience tenfold or thousandfold back to others?

It is really very simple - treat others like you want others to treat you! Do this in all areas of your life not just in the MT world, and you will not only be a happier person but you will also make others happy. Give it a try - I promise it will not even hurt!!

Trick or treat
Since we have a Doberman, I doubt it will be a problem.
You have to treat us like humans
Im a breathing, walking, transcribing and talking human. may it be $20 or $200 per hour, you dont talk to us that way. I would declare war with you and your offer whatever it is.
That's how I would decide also. Treat others the way you
would want to be treated.
Does DTS America treat their people well?

I was thinking of testing with DTS America in Nashville and just wondering what anyone knew about them.

Thanks

We teach people how to treat us - I would not put up with this.
It seems this arrangement no longer works with your schedule. If they say they need the work now and you cannot do that any longer then you need to let them know why. Best of luck to you.
if doctors would only treat MTs like machines !!

this kills me, from the MT news board, a neurologist speaking:

What are the pitfalls? “Mumbling,” says Dr. Block, “that’s the main problem. Doctors are used to dictating in a low, monotone mumble, as fast as they can. A person might be able to handle it by going back and listening to the recording again and again. But for voice recognition, doctors need to speak in a normal, conversational tone of voice, just like we are doing right now. Speak normally, and Dragon has no problem, it works very well. It’s really quite simple.”

yes PLEASE, go ahead and treat me like a machine -- and that TAT would be a whole lot better!!!! and yes doc, you would save money too.....

You show people how to treat you. We don't

do gifts at my house.  There isn't a single thing I need that I don't already have.  I got breakfast in bed (omelet, bacon, and French toast).  Lunch and dinner was cooked for me and the dishes done, laundry was done, the den picked up.  My car was detailed by my children and my children also spread a pile of mulch for me.  They would have had to spread the mulch anyway, but it would have taken days, they did it in about 1/2 day.   I also received cards.   The kids didn't fight, I didn't get anything that I wouldn't use anyway, and it was just a very nice day.

I always make a big deal out of birthdays and holidays for my family and they know what I want from them.

do your present laundry first and then treat yourself--sm
for a job *well done* by buying new clothes. That way you get both. just a suggestion.
well i am glad that they treat you that posted better
Odd it must have just been me cause I was with them two different times two years apart and both times the same crap! I am glad to see that they are treating some people nicer than myself! I really don't know what the deal is there, but I know I didn't get much positive feedback or help when I asked for help! Yes, the pay was not so hot either I agree with the other poster on that part. I have two years of transcription experience, but this gal did expect perfection from me on day one I can see maybe day 3 but not day one. As I said I am just speaking my experience and if anyone else has had similar to myself please don't hesitate to speak up! Thanks! Have a great weekend all!
I work for the person. I know. Very excellent person, personally and business-sense.
It is an INSULT to have QA hovering over seasoned MTs who know what they are doing. She trusts her MTs and again if there are questions there is one person, a trainer, who can answer them via phone, e-mail or instant message or you can send the whole report to them if you choose.
That's used to treat fungus. Chickenpox is a virus, but thank you anyway!

I wouldnt go get him. Just treat him tonight even if he doesnt have it
That may keep him from getting it. Head lice is a nuisance but not hard to get rid of. I wouldnt sweat it. You should change their sheets, etc...
Thanks for this post. Glad that you are doing well, and hopefully the next year will treat you even
better.  Blessings!
How could they NOT treat her? I mean, how on earth could the docs not 'touch her'?
Doesn't the physician on duty have an obligation to treat the patient? It'd be a greater lawsuit potential if they refused to treat her and she worsened or died. That doesn't make sense that they could chose not to treat her. It probably is stated as a complication but those can't really hold up in court. The possible complications list practically anything that could happen, including death, but that doesn't mean that if a person is injured or dies from surgery that the physician is absolved of any wrongdoing if they messed it up. I hope and pray she recovers fully.
Point was is the person willing to make up for the slack of the person who types 1 job when there is

if that is all they WANT to type.   Is the person who wants to be a supervisor willing to make up for those people?

You have crap supervisors, editors and mts in the business like you have good ones.   Sadly, the really good ones of all of them are few and far between.

And you're willing to just accept that? Ever had your identity stolen? I have. It's no treat.
the police have made a report but whoopee, that's not getting my credit back on track.  Talk about stress and grief.  No one ever cares until it happens to them.  What a shame.
If you treat when they are not there, they dont get resistent becuase they are not there to get resi
I think someone has told you some old wives tale about this. I went through this with my kids' school in the city. It was horrible. There are sprays out there and the doctor told us that they die within being off the body in 12 to 24 hours.

Since moving to the county, my kids have not had to deal with it.

If you treat when they are not there, they dont get resistent becuase they are not there to get resistent to it.
Your job is to type what the doc says, not diagnose the patient and decide how to treat them.

Kind of arrogant to put your 9 months to one year education (estimated length of an MT program) up against a doctors 10 years of education, dontcha think?

He may be an incompetent boob, but that's not for you or me to decide. It's up to the patient or their family members to decide to get a second opinion.

"Sorry, Mrs. Pheebles, but we can't treat your heart attack..."
"It seems the Conficker worm just ate your medical records."
I hate when companies treat us like we're working for pin money

Am I supposed to be happy when a company only gives me 200 or 300 lines a day when they promise you a certain amount (that is higher than that)? How would the company employees (not us lowly transcriptionists) feel if the company told them that they were only getting paid 100 dollars this pay period, that there wasn't enough work. Not enough to pay bills and keep food on the table, just pin money.

Sheesh.

Yikes! I just took five minutes to give my doggie some love and a treat! What a crazy world!

When you have a QA person that is picky and another QA person that is very lenient where does that
leave the MTs because some are getting a lenient reviewer and others are getting one that picks at everything. How do you reconcile that issue with the difference in QA mentality. Some people make out well and the other people could be just as good but dont. I wonder about that.
The person MTSO pays is the person who

never too young
I don't think you are ever too young to be worried about retirement!  I wish I had worried about it sooner...  you cannot expect a retirement check from any company, but you can do something about it yourself.  Go to your local financial institutions and start your own retirement fund - just contribute a certain percentage of your check each time you are paid and no matter how many times you change jobs, keep doing it.  It is there for you - you don't lose it just because you change jobs.  But you are right to be worrying about your future - more of us should be doing that!
ah, to be so young...
...as to have never used tapes -- what a lovely feeling that must be!
I'm sorry but i think you are too young to be on this board!

Smart Young Man

Your son sounds like a very smart young man. Not many kids these days truly care about their education. They look at high school as a party/social time, and dont look into the future what so ever, and said thing is a lot of our children are not getting the guidance from home either.

My son loves to learn and loves to be challenged and with him being home schooled we are able to do so.

And one other positive note on home schooling college intrance exams have shown that home schooled kids are just as smart if not smarter than those who go to public or private schools. The one on one they get is a big big factor in that.

Best of Luck!!!!!!!

I don't see a problem if someone does it once because of (1) young age, - sm
(2) circumstances...this girl has no clue who the father is, that is clear, (3) where they are at in life...in school is no time to have a baby. She would possible drop out, not have anything but a high school diploma for the rest of her life. How do you support yourself and a baby on $15K a year? Does she have understanding parents? Will the father pay support?(she'd have to have all the guys she slept with in the time period of conception tested). Someone that that young is not cut out to have a child....I can remember very clearly how I was then, and many are just not ready for the responsibility. Yes, many see abortion as shirking your responsibility because "you play you pay"; but you have to decide what is good and right for you and your circumstances, and the only one who can make that decision is the person who has to bear and raise the child or deal with their conscious if they decide to get an abortion. It's nobody's business but theirs. I think people who purposely don't use any form of BC then just get abortion after abortion because they are too lazy to get BCPs or condoms are WRONG for doing that. But people who are (1) stupid one time (2) get raped (as my roommate was); (3) just too young, i.e. in their teens, very early 20s--- have 1 pass. If my daughter came home and was in HS or college and said she was pregnant and wanted an abortion I would support her decision. I plan on drilling it into my kids heads never to have sex w/o a condom though and hopefully they will never have an unwanted pregnangy. I suppose you think my thinking is screwy and that is fine, everyone is entitled to their opinion, that is what makes the world go around.
Wow, mine was young...
I got my daughter's ears pierced when she was 7 months old. I think I was 5 when my mom got mine pierced, and then I was 12 when I got my second holes.
Very young on both daughters - sm
Two weeks old on first daughter. One week old on second daughter.
Your young age is showing!
I remember the dictabelt, we had to mark it with chalk to know where to start it up. Talk about archaic! The times they are a'changin! (and for this part - the better!)
I don't know if you mean too young or too old. Companies

cannot legally ask you how old you are.   I quess they can get an idea of age based on work history though or if you put educational history on resume.  I'm nearly 50, but when I answer the phone I frequently have people ask to speak to my mother.  I've been offered a position with every company I've ever applied to.

You don’t sound too old with a young kid
but in my town we have a consumer person (who is a millionaire but well known to be really tight with his money), anyway he was talking about a place where he buys his glasses and only pays about $8.00 for them and these are prescription glasses. I used to wear glasses, had Lasik and now 20/30 in both eyes- in about 2001, I think. For close up work such as newspapers or books, I go to the dollar store and buy the $1.00- This is for me, not saying everyone can do this. I see no sense in paying $200.00 for a pair of glasses when you can get them much cheaper.
I used to be young and dumb but
when I came into some money, quite a bit of it, paid all my bills off. I only have my monthly bills now, utilities and such. It is a wonderful feeling but to the original post, it is here money and really if she wants to burn it, she can.
Young man, listen up.
Your a very intelligent person and you seem really mature to the world. Inside you feel like you are crumbling, I completely understand that. Remember ther is always a tomorrow and always something better out there. If you are not happy doing the work that you are doing, its not the work, there is something holding you back. You definitely need to see either a therapist or a TRAINED medical profession to talk about this with. And don't wait, do it NOW. So many times people wait and it becomes too late. You are going to be fine and God will help you through any challenges you come across. If the physicians give you medications, take it. If it has side effects, don't stop taking it, call your physician and he can put you on another medication that does not have those side effects.

This is going to be a very long and very rewarding process and you will start feeling better about yourself. Don't give up and don't listen to people who just tell you to suck it up and get a job. Obviously they have been so lucky to never have experienced depression before. I pray that you will only have the best of luck in all you do.
you are young and dumb. The nerve of you to say
why have children if you are going to put them in daycare.  When I was going to graduate school and working I became pregnant.  I didn't expect my husband to quit his job and I sure enough was going to stop graduate school my six months.  My triplets went to daycare and was fine.
working with young kids

I have been working at home since my first child was a day old and all I can say is you get used to it and so do they since they don't know any different.  I think it would be harder having them a bit older and then starting to work at home.  I took short breaks for feeding but worked during the regular work day other than that, just had the baby lying on a blanket next to my chair or in a bouncer seat or sometimes on my lap, and as he got older he started playing next to my desk.  The second time around I had twins, and well, that was a bit harder, but I fed them both at the same time and put them on the same feeding and nap schedules to maximize both work time and my sanity.

Ya do what ya gotta do.
