To the new MTs / MENTOREE

Hello.  If you have very little experience, you must be trained.  If someone hires you for on the job training, make sure they train you before throwing you to an editor.  An editor, like you, is paid by the line only.  They do not have time to walk you through all the training materials you didn't feel like reading.  Some companies are so desperate for cheap labor that they take advantage of people wanting to work from home.  They give them the easiest dictators and the new MT still can't handle it.  The editors are left with a mess.  I will tell you, I am quitting.  I'd rather type than retype someone's work and get half the pay.

If that's the case, ask them what your pay will go to when you have "clean" reports.  I was with a wonderful place who started me out at 5 cpl (while still working for the 8 cpl people) until I was trained on their accounts and they, too, went to 8 cpl after I proved myself.  That only took a month or so.  However, it was a small company and the boss was extremely nice and encouraging.  I know experience means everything, but don't sell yourself short, either!
Mentoree made to feel DUMB

I am so angry because I feel like the lady at this company I am mentoring with treats me like I am DUMB. I am new to this field but far from being DUMB. When I ask for clearity on something it is like her response is demeaning. I don't know if it is just me or it seems like there are people in this field that are just rude. I don't want to appear ungrateful for have the opportunity to have a company mentor me but I AM NOT DUMB!!!!!!!

I don't what to snap back at her in her emails for fear of losing the opportunity. Any advice?

I thought being a mentoree that 4cpl was a going rate...
The company gives, in the place of more money per line, software, references material etc. I am told that as my report come clean I will make more per line.

I just wanted to get my foot in the door and get experience.
