Try ShortHand if you love PRD+. sm

It reminds me a lot of PRD, but oh so much better.  No maximum on the amount of shortcuts you can put in ShortHand.  No changing buffers.  I don't believe ShortHand works with DOS, though.  You can even convert your PRD   files to ShortHand, but will have to tweak them all.

Love Shorthand....sm

It works with all windows based programs, not just Word or Word Perfect.  XXXXXXX used to have a huge list of entries that you could add to most Expander programs.  With Shorthand, you have your main dictionary that you set up and then a linked dictionary, which is how I set up the entries from the XXXXXXX site.  It is a list of about 100,000 entries, I believe.

As far as brand name drugs go, ones that I use frequently in the specialties that I type (GI and cardiology), I enter them in my expander already capitalized so that I do not have to hit the shift key when typing.  This may not save a lot of time, but time is money in this business and every little bit helps.  I use my expander program and macros to the fullest extent to save time in typing reports.

If you decided to go this route and you cannot get the list from XXXXXXX any longer, let me know by e-mail....I would be glad to send you the file.

I love IT. Don't know anything about Shorthand...
But I have increased my productivity 60-70% in the past year and a half using Instant Text. Some people complain about it being hard to get used to because it runs across the bottom of the screen, but I like it. I have mine set to show me 9 rows at a time so I usually don't even have to type out the entire short form before I see it and can choose it. They also don't like getting used to hitting the ; key as the marker instead of the space bar (there is a mode where you can use it like PRD but then you lose a lot of the features). It took me about 2-3 weeks to get really used to using the marker keys and now I'm so used to it that it is automatic. A big pro is that if you switch jobs you can take it with you because it links to multiple applications. (I work 2 jobs and use it on both platforms which is great, no more adding expansions to 2 separate glossaries). I like that you can separate and make multiple glossaries if you want, the compile and continuation features save tons of time, I like that you have the option of entering both words and phrases, it comes in handy for those big long single words. I keep a list of all my drugs on my word side and once I enter them I never have to look up the spelling again. You can set it to automatically capitalize letters after a . or : and you can set it to automatically add 1 or 2 spaces after a period or colon or a comma. I like not having to worry about what I name my short forms, it doesn't matter if the abbreviation can also be a real word (ie PAT) because you don't accidentally expand them just by hitting the space bar.

Anyhow, like I said I don't know if ShortHand is anything like it, but as you can tell I am a huge fan of IT and think it is the best thing that has happened to my line counts in my 16 years of transcribing.
Have Shorthand, love it SM
I have no experience with the other program, but can still recommend ShortHand without reservation. It's always done everything I've wanted, very fast, very flexible, many more features than I actually use, no problems with a couple of new platforms with new accounts, and no lockups or weirdouts--very stable, bless it!

I didn't monitor the increase in my productivity, but it's been tremendous. I can't imagine just limping along with Explorer Tools, for instance, when superb programs like this are available.

BTW, although Shorthand will also provide a list of possible expansions for words as you type, I turned that feature off from the very beginning and started memorizing my abbreviations on the assumption that I would want to proof as I went and taking my eyes off the report itself could only slow me down.
ShortHand is what I use and LOVE it! nm

Amen to that. Love Shorthand because you can do macros, too. nm

aneurysm... love shorthand - just type anu and there it is...(NM)
xx
Use ExText for 1 job. Love it! Works with my ShortHand. Wish they all used it! nm
s
Love ShortHand and believe you can download it for a trial. Might be others out there, too. nm

I also love Shorthand and recommend without reservations. sm
Every once in a while I see people posting issues on other Expanders I just haven't experienced with Shorthand.  Very stable and workable with the platforms I've used, and I find the ability to use symbols in abbreviations an extremely useful feature.  I originally chose it for its very large storage capacity compared to others at that time and pretty much lucked out with the rest.
Thank you so much... I love shorthand, but that always drove me crazy - sm
I have gone in and changed mine.  Just proves you can learn something new each day, or you can teach an old dog new tricks, not sure which... lol
I've only been on it a short time but love it - I use Shorthand, though with it.
nm
I am going to order Shorthand for myself today. I love it. You can also manage your words in
:+
I use Shorthand for Windows and love it. I have found it works well with most every program. SM

I have used with Word and Word Perfect.  I have used it with Meditech and Cerner.  I have used it with RadNet and StarNavigator for Radiology.  I can use it with my email applications and on the internet if I choose.  If the Expander is open and running, you can use it with any and every window program you use.

I was really simple to learn to use too.  Very user friendly.

Shorthand works for Radnet. I love Radnet BTW! nm
nm
SpeedType and Shorthand are the exact same program. Shorthand is lots cheaper and also has a trial.
.
{@KEY BkSp}-pack-per-year is for Shorthand. Using the semicolon works with both Shorthand and

;yo = -year-old

;py= -pack-year

etc...

Shorthand and SpeedType are exact same program. Shorthand will cost you lots less.
you can import your autocorrect into Shorthand.
I took shorthand too. But it sure comes in helpful for my expanders. I view words in shorthand for
i did use shorthand once in a job but i was so nervous the "boss" took pity and dictated the report on dictaphone.
If it is Shorthand, save the SPF file to a disk, then if you buy Shorthand yourself....
you can just drop the SPF file into it. That is not dishonest since you are the one who put the macros in. I am sure is it is another Expander there is a way to save the macro file and then drop it in the expander you buy on your own.
love, love, love the show. hate american idol. this show is for real.
the only reason i entertained watching it was because of mark burnett and as usual he has such genious casting and editing. btw, don't know who anything about "metal" music but these performers make me like it. love marty and jd as performers. HATE JESSICA. susie is so nice and so emotional. it seems they all support each other and enjoy each others skills. regarding ty and bob marley, ty was excellent but he also lucked out on the song! bob marley was genious too and his music is very easy to listen to. i don't like 3/4 of what the others are given to sing but their performances make me love the music. dave navarro shines on this show, very gracious for the most part and letting the contestants down easy when they have to leave. he was great last night with brandon (?). sweet, sweet show. i am so impressed with everyone involved.
Yep that's it, 4000. Love, love love the zoom
But I feel like a dork typing...every time I try to type But it is coming out as Nut!
I love it too - love doing my nails 5 hours a day and staying awake

Love NOT getting paid while sitting doing my nails too.  It's a real turn on.

I tell all my friends to try it -- sit in front of your computer while you have no money to pay your rent and instead do your nails, you get a real buzz down in the pit of your stomach.

Also LOVE LOVE ESCRIPTION and make good money but...
Can I ask how you sit there for 8 hours. Lately, I'm having a motivation problem. When I focus, I can rack up the lines, but lately, I get so easily distracted. My mind wanders and I struggle to get my lines. Any tips on how you stay productive who do you work for?? I work for Transcend.
People either love it or hate it. I personally love it
but I know a lot of people say you cannot make any money on it and will not work on it. I do okay. I'm obviously not getting rich but I am making a living. I found it easier than Dictaphone and faster such in downloading and uploading job and you only have to log on one system and not like Dictaphone where you have to log onto the VPN and then log onto the program. It's always worth a try, but yes, the biggest complaint I hear is that no one can make a living and the cpl isn't that great.
I went back in house and love it. I love not being
secluded. I was working in my PJs, less organized and feel much better now that I get up and dress for work and see people (even those in traffic aren't so bad anymore). I find that I have more of a life now, and my family says that I spend more time with them now.

Working at home served its purpose for a long time; I was ready to go out into the world again now that I have no little ones at home.
BD WONG! I love him! I love all CSI and Law and Orders!
I am so addicted. I actually schedule my job and family around the shows LOL.
Love love love my chair
The arms can be lowered so they won't be in your way, I don't know about the tilt limiter. But I bought my off ebay about 6 years ago and can't do without it. No I do not think you can find another chair that even compares to the aeron, changed my working life completely, no sore back or butt. You won't regret it, but you will if you go for a cheap imitation.
LOL. I love it. I also love the song sm
I wouldn't take nothing for my journey now. Miss the Happy Goodmans!
Repeat after me: I love my job, I love my job. :) nm

You can love a job and still love being home! sm

I got into medical transcription for many reasons.  Yes, one was that I wanted to be home with my children, another was that I wanted to be in the medical field, and yet another was this just fits me.  Medical terminology and grammar are two things that have always come easily to me.  So, this fits.  I can work early, early mornings and late nights when they are asleep.  Also during afternoon naps.  Yeah, doesn't leave a heck of a lot of time for myself, but THAT is a sacrifice I am willing to make, leaving my kids for someone else to raise/care for all day wasn't.

I do not love money but I love what it can buy
for me. I work 4 days a week now and was not bringing home what I wanted every 2 weeks, for some reason that is at least 1,000.00. I just decided to turn up the speed and put my mind to doing at least 3000 lines a day and figured by that should get what I want in the pay line. Worked well for me. I tell people if you want to talk with me call before I go to work, do not let outside influences bother me during my hours. Other than a bathroom break, glass of water, here for the straight 8.
I love Google and I love MTs
Okay, who in their right mind would not only discuss but have passionate opinions about hyphens and apostrophes? I love it!

Anyway, in googling grammar rules I found numerous references that two days' time would not but hyphenated but when used as a modifier like two-day history, it would be.

I remember telling an OB nurse friend of mine about fretting over 38 weeks pregnancy and whether the hyphen belonged in there and she just laughed and said she thinks she would get the point either way. Well harumph!
Shorthand ? sm
Is Shorthand compatible with and is it much different than the standard autocorrect in Word?
I use Shorthand with DQS

It is very compatible.  You can set it up so that you can see a hint window while you type.  I tried using the built in Expander in DQS, and you have to have a great memory, because there is no hint window or suggestion window, like Smartype.  I also know that Instant Text is compatible with DQS, also; but I prefer Shorthand.  I hear so many great things about Smartype and wish I could learn it, but it won't work with DQS; however, there is a way you can get around that.  You can use Smartype and transcribe in Word, set your font size to 14 and save your file in Rich Text Format, then copy and paste into the DQS platform.  Then select all and hit Ctrl 5 to get the spacing right.  It sounds like a lot of steps and you will also lose your place as far as leaving any QA markers, so I personally don't care for the hassle, but I know of some MTs that do it that way, so you can try it.

Hope this helps.

shorthand
cool, i'll look into that thanks
Shorthand SM
Shorthand should work with ChartScript, since ChartScript uses Microsoft Word, but you would want to disable ChartScript's built in expander.  If you are referring to ChartScript.net, Shorthand should work in that too.
shorthand
Wow! Thanks! I had asked that question a little while ago on the production board.
shorthand sm
Where did you find a free program? Did it load right into Word for Windows?
Shorthand
The Hospital I came from uses Meditech with Shorthand-, works fine. There is something built into Meditech like a word Expander but everyones stuff mixes in together and was a nightmare- love shorthand.
Shorthand
I would be very interested.
shorthand
I use ShortHand with Meditech. Works great....
In Shorthand, there must be (sm)
a shortcut key or something that allows you to add on the fly?? The only thing I see is to actually open the ShortHand window then I can click the insert button on my keyboard or click on the little "add" icon. Is there a key combination for doing this while I am in the document - to just bring that "add" window up?
I use Shorthand. nm

Shorthand
Is there a way to copy text with bold headers into shorthand, bold headers and all? The text copies fine but I have to go back and use the special keys for adding the bold back in at every header because the bold from the finished text will not carry over. I've gone through the help section but maybe I'm not asking "how to" the right way. It just seems that my old version of SH carried everything over, but I can't remember. Anyhow, if anyone has the answer, would appreciate it.
Shorthand
No, you hit Ctrl K and B before the entry, type the entry how you want it, and then hit Ctrl K and B again to toggle the bolding off.  It will come up with a little window showing you the B is the next key typed or something to that effect, and you click 'OK' both times that window comes up.
Shorthand
If you need everything in CAPS use CAPS Lock. If you only want the first letter of the sentence just do as you would for a regular sentence by holding down the Shift key and type the first letter whatever it may be. It will bring up your expansion with the first letter only capitalized.
Need help w/Shorthand 9
I downloaded the 30-day trial of Shorthand.  I cannot figure out how to bold a word in MSWord.  Every time I try to input CTL+B into the expansion, the program puts the - {@KEY - or something like that.  I have read and tried everything I could find in the Help section with no luck.  Can someone type out what I need to input to get a word capitalized and bolded.  I would really, really appreciate the help.  I am thinking it must be something super easy that I am just not getting!  TIA
I really like Shorthand
I worked for MQ and liked the expansion program. With my new company I have Shorthand. I really like it. You can try it out for a 30-day period and see if you like it before you buy it.
Shorthand!

Is there a way you can import addresses into ShortHand all at once, instead of one by one?

Thanks in advance!

Shorthand
There is an AWESOME board you can join that will help also. It is productivity talk, and it is at http://www.productivitytalk.com/

It will not only help you with ShortHand but also with Instant Text, Smartype (sp?) and MS Word.
shorthand help
Does anyone know how to add to ShortHand the following:  PLa then subscript the #2 in font of 8 instead of 12.  It is annoying to keep going to font size and then to subscript and then back to font size and then back to no subscript.  I am looking for an easy fix, any help?
