Perhaps I am on the wrong board, but I need to update my equipment (have Windows 98 with Office 97) and need to start working from home. I need to order a new tower, of course, and new software. I don't have the money to spend, so I would like to know what I should ask for to work in order to qualify for home, i.e., the minimum amount of memory; what I need to attach a foot pedal, etc., etc. Some of the e-mail "bargains" I am getting offers for this time of year will have in the small print "no USB or parallel ports." I am totally confused and would appreciate any help I can get. I am getting off a DOS-based WP 5.1 program after many, many years. There is a computer store nearby and he builds computers to your needs, but he is very, very business-like and a "no-nonsense" person (Japanese, hard-working). You have to tell him exactly what you want. He has absolutely no clue about medical transcription needs. Have plenty of acute care experience but need your help so I won't "waste" my money on useless "bargains" and need to start testing on line for the new year. Right now, I have AOL dial-up as well. So you see, I do need your expertise and in the Christmas spirit, if you would e-mail me, I sure would appreciate it. I need to get back to doing what I love to do after a year's relocation. I did receive some good advice and some thoughtful e-mails with regard to updating. I want to emphasize what a wonderful board this is and a credit to our profession. I want to thank the administrator(s) and all those who respond positively and offer their expertise and are always willing to help their fellow MLS people. I wish you all a wonderful holiday season. I celebrate Christmas myself and have found the joy of the gracious hearts of many people on this board are my Christmas present(s). It is your presence, your thoughtfulness at this time which make my holiday a happy one. No matter which religion you believe in or whether or not you believe, I believe in you, all of you. Have a wonderful, wonderful rest of the year and peace and happiness in 2006. Thank you for this board! You are my family and I am so grateful to be here with you. If we help each other, the load is not that heavy,

Problems Updating in MT World
I also use MT World for my job. I had the very same problem. I upgraded from Microsoft Office 2002 to Microsoft Office 2003. I also had a "corrupt" auto-correct file.

Since updating to IE7 I cant access hotmail, anyone SM
else have this problem. I've tried all the usual routes. TIA
Updating word expander
I have lost my instructions for updating word expander. Does anyone have these instructions or can tell me where I can find it or the file in my computer? Any help would be appreciated.

Unless we are transcribing, we are losing money. This is why a relative decent line rate is not asking for a lot, I believe.
I do think we should all have a savings account though. I have 17 hours of PTO that I am going to cash in.

I would switch your dial up provider before you spend a lot of money updating computer. sm
that particular provider you mentioned puts lots of unnecessary "crap" on your computer.
