MEP-- see http://www.deturi.com/oldsite/mep.html.

Also WinZip (the purchased version) has encryption.

Looking for an encryption program so I can send reports.

FTP vs encryption
What is the advantage of using FTP rather than just a good encryption program?  If sent through email with encryption and the doctor's office saves in their computer, why would that not be sufficient?  TIA
Encryption
I have a small company and use encrypted email only to send patient lists, not reports, which we do through a server.  I would highly recommend Versign as the premier encryption service above and beyond what HIPAA requires.  Both sides, those accepting and sending emails, must have Versign for it to work.  Its safe and dependable.  I wont allow my transcriptionists to work without it.

Speaking of encryption, my doc wants to go through tapeless and go with a WAV pedal program. What are the ins and outs of these programs; what's good; what's not.  Are they easy to load, setup, etc.  And, what above the WAV pedal programs? Any information would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

Can anyone tell me of a good encryption program to use with WAV pedal program?

Email encryption
Hello, does anyone know of a very simple, inexpensive email encryption program? Was previously using Hypersend, but they are changing and after 12/28 will be much more expensive (had used this free for the last year) to use. I only send 1 or 2 encrypted emails (containing patient notes) per week and really don't want to bother with FTP or any of that. Would like something similar to Hypersend, which was so simple & easy to use. Had previously purchased Centurion software for encryption, but found it complicated on the recipient's end to use. I see a lot of programs/software out there, but don't know which ones are legitimate or trusted. Would appreciate any advice at all. THANKS!
email encryption
I just read another post about password protecting files in Word. Actually, I never knew that could be done. I just went in and gave it a try and it works great! This might be a very simple answer for all that I need this for.
Best free encryption software? sm
I'm going out of town tomorrow, kind of a mini family emergency, and for the first time will have to drag my laptop along to work.  The encryption software on my main computer cannot be transferred to the laptop.  Anyone have opinions on free encryption software that is fast to install, good quality, and easy to use.  I don't have enough time to learn new software or putz with it.  Thanks.
there are free encryption programs at ....
look around and check it all out.  Some cost money, but not heaps and might be worth having.
Maybe because Home version does not have encryption feature.

Outlook Encryption satisfies HIPAA

(Disclaimer: this is posted by Vann Joe, the publisher of MPWord, MPLite, and MPTools.)

Yes, the encryption built into Outlook would comply with HIPAA.

I note a user has suggested MPLite ($54). If you want to continue working in MS Word, adding MPLite to your work environment will save you much time both in generating the documents and in invoicing. http://www.mpword.com/7mplite.htm

MPWord adds these functions to what you get in MPLite: medical spell check, abbreviation expansion, encryption, zip, unzip, email, fax, ftp.

All our software is available for download and trial. You see, we don't want anyone's money, till you try the software out, finds it meets your needs, and absolutely love the time it saves you.

The same crap about HIPAA & encryption sickens me. The problem is what

happens once the information reaches India and is processed by the India MT.  So what if the dictation is "encrypted" and sent through "private lines".  What happens to the information once it's UNencrypted? That is where the problem is because then that private health information can be compromised and our illustrious HIPAA law can do NOTHING, NADA, ZIP to protect the poor patient...why oh why...again, because HIPAA is a U.S. law and is not enforceable outside of the U.S.

The next thing that doesn't ring true is the so called "aging" American Medical Transcriptionist labor pool.  Let's get real Mr. Paulik.  The FACT is that YES there is a shortage....a shortage of experienced MTs willing to work for PEANUTS!  Pay us a decent wage and watch those experienced MTs come out of the woodwork!  Also, take a good hard look at every single MT website and see the enormous number of American MTs, EXPERIENCED MTs looking for work.

I am so fed up with these corporations using this same lame excuses time and again to justify what comes down to the almighty buck.

Anyone familiar with Thawte for their free encryption email service?

I was looking at Thawte for a security measure for sending medical reports through email.  Has anyone here used them before or know anyhthing more concerning this company?

TIA~

It will count everything if you go in the settings and program it to. Good program!
Sylcount is an awesome and accurate counting program also. That will count everything if you "tell it to".
You can use Shorthand in ANY program, it works outside your program
I have never found a platform it did not work with and I have worked on several different versions of Meditech. Just start using it.
M-TEC has a Basic program (12 month) and a Premier program (18 month). To WAH, you should take the P

Value of SUM program...What would you pay???>>>

I asked this on the equipment board, but I think maybe I'll get a better response here, so I hope its okay to post it here, too.

Does anyone know what the SUM CDs are worth?  There are some on ebay.  The beginning one is 2005, and usually they are the older ones on ebay.  I looked on the HPI website, but they come with books and are VERY expensive.

Anyway, does anyone have an idea of what they are worth without any extra books?  I want to bid on them, but don't know how much.  They are at $9.99 each now.  There is a beginning one, an advanced one and a surgery one.  Shoot.  I want them, but don't want to pay too much, you know?

Thanks for any input.

SUM Program
First, realize if you are able to study independently. The SUM cd's that are on ebay now are the new 2005 editions. You will be able to find the additional books you need on eBay over a few weeks. My advice to you is 1) go to the HPI/SUM website and print out the Student Syllabus and assignments for beginning and surgical (this will give you all of your assignments and a list of what supplies you will need, 2) email the eBay seller and make sure she is including the password codes to "unlock" the cds (Without these, they are useless to you.), then bid what they are worth to you. I have seen them go from $10 to well over $100. I sold a one myself (and not the new edition) for $125. Since I now have everything I need, I will pass on a little hint for buying cheap on eBay. Look for the packages, purchase them, take out what you need, then relist the rest. I now have a second computer (used but fine), desk (nice and new), all the reference books needed for the SUM Program, every Stedman's book that I could ever want (the latest editions), flash cards from Career Step (which come in handy), the extra AAMT cd's that M-Tec uses along with macros and every possible item I could ever want. In the end, not only did it cost me nothing, but I actually came out ahead in the end.

So, if you have the time, this is an excellent way to purchase training materials. Good luck and happy shopping.

DQS program

Hello out there - Starting position who has DQS program.

I find it to be very poor.  (In fact those who know the Meditech program - I prefer Meditech over DQS anyday)

I have a lot of issues with the program; however, will just ask two questions, please.  Any advice is greatly appreciated.

1.  Does anyone have advice as to the quality of dictation.  I am not referring to the physicians quality, but the inability of the DQS program to have more than 4 selections for speed, which are terrible.

Is it me or is this par for the program?  1-2 speed hash marks are draggy, 3-4 is distorted.  There is not a happy medium for clear dictation but at a rate you can type quickly and accurately.

2.  Also minutes - never measured my work in minutes how many minutes a day approximately to produce 1500 lines a day ??

35+ years transcription experience - this is the worst program ever.  Hey that is just my opinion, I could be wrong (5000 lb gorilla).

DQS program
Thank you so much for your information. You have hit the nail right on the head.

I too did the same as you. It seems almost impossible to get more than 700 lines. I am so confused as I usually average 200+ lines/hour on all other typing plateforms I have ever used. (Even Meditech)

Your reponse has really helped realize the program frustration is not completely my fault.

THANK YOU - God Bless

Top gray keys - press left key (program), press again and it will say keys, choose which black button you want for the headset and press it, type #*11, hit the select (X) key, hit the black button you chose again and the hit the top right gray key (no). If you hit the black button you chose, it should light up, indicating the headset is working.
See Clearly Program. Has anyone every tried this?
If so, did it work?
I believe you would need a program also.
I don't know of any free ones that could be used with a pedal but I certainly could be wrong.  Some companies have you test within their platform and it might work there.  Good luck!
? on sum program
Sorry not sure which board to put this ? on but I have sum program with 12 tapes side a and b, machine and answer key and have no idea of what kind of a price to put on this.  Any advice would be appreciated.  Thank you.
don't know what program UR using but I NEVER

My reports, especially with ESL, come in better than they (the ESL dictators) can actually dictate.  I have to do editing, sure, but it's mostly punctuation, or wrong word(s), setting up paragraphs, doing some headings - it's very rapid for me (used to edit in a previous setting but not medical) but, yes, it is less $, so you work smarter, not harder, in this biz.... I'm much faster on VR than straight transcribing and wish I had more VR.....

You don't say what the program is.
Line counts can vary for several reasons and it's not fair for you to blame MS Word or the line-counting program for the discrepancy.

You need to check with the MTSO about the EXACT settings they're using. For example, are you counting for formatting such as Bold or Caps? Maybe they're not. Are you counting for tabs and they're not? Headers/Footers? There are any number of reasons for the difference so until you check with the appropriate source (the MTSO) about their settings, you won't know.
RE: Program
I use Transcription Gear and
have no problems.
So, you were able to use this program from
I was going to try it for an account that I have where I transcribe from progress notes.  A lot of these patients are established and the med list stays the same.  I currently save my documents by date of service, but I am wondering if it would be worth my while to build a patient database even if just for this account.    My fear was having to recreate the Word documents in a separate program.
There is a way to program, but I can't get

it to work.  What I do is take the phone off and stick it in my desk drawer and the headphones work fine and no speaker phone.  If you do get the speakerphone hit stop and it will go away.

You don't say what program you are using, but if I
need to make a change that isn't offered I just cancel out, I'm at the spot I need to change, I change it, and then I run spellcheck again.
Tell me a little more about this program
Is it something you do from home?  How long does it last?  What does it entail?  Or perhaps a website you can direct me to.
try this program
Hi there!

I went onto a site and somehow got some goofy bad stuff I downloaded Windows Defender and ran scan it got rid of it and it has not been back since!

Seriously if you don't have it already download it and let it run on you system for good! It is free and it will help greatly! You need to go to the Windows home site click on downloads it should be in a list of suggested/recommended downloads. Trust me it helped me, my dad and my friend when we have had issues once you have Windows Defender on your system it will act as mote does to a castle so to speak. Let me know how it turns out for you! MT from SD
Try getting the SUM program on your own
Since you are an MT and only need the exposure to acute care material, you really do not need to take a course like that. You'd just spend a lot of money to "learn" typing, punctuation, phrase drills, etc.

With your background, you might look for a school that assumes students have that already, begins right away with acute care material, and then goes on to train beyond the basics.

Another option would be to get the SUM program material and just plow through it on your own. You should be successful with this, given that you have experience and good English skills. You have training, after all. You just got it on the job.

The only problem with the self-study approach would be that you might not be able to get a job with a national. When they require a certain number of years of experience in acute care, they are serious. The only way around this is to take a course like Andrews or M-Tec.

You might want to compare the cost of the SUM program, including the advanced and ESL dictation sets, with the cost of Andrews (or MTec if they use all of them). The difference should be worth the nearly guaranteed job you'll have upon graduation. You'll be able to make that up in earnings quickly.

I don't think either school would require you to waste time on spelling and punctuation. :) You'd be able to scoot through fairly quickly, since you already have the basic skills down.

WP Program

Does anyone know if there is a site to download for free Word Perfect?  I googled but was unsuccessful in finding it, yet I've heard there is a free version out there.

If anyone can link me up, TIA!!!

On the program I use...

which is taxactonline.com, they have a section where you calculate what portion of square footage you use for your office space and that is how they calculate the percentage of deduction.  So, if your house is 1,000 sq total and you use a 10 x 10 room for your office, or 100 sq, then the deduction would be 10% for utilities (if I am calculating that right, it's been a long day).

I went through the M-TEC program

I wouldn't say I liked it exactly.  It was a lot tougher than I expected and sometimes I got discouraged.  However, I finally finished and was hired right off the bat.  My employer loves M-Tec grads!  In addition, I continue to get emails from M-TEC about other employers who would like to hire M-TEC grads, so I guess all that hard work was worth it.  If you really want to be an MT, I don't think you can go wrong with M-TEC, but search your soul and make sure it is really what you want because it won't be easy.
