Oh I am SO glad that you were never a child that needed care!
Too bad all children cannot be like yourself.

Too bad that everyone cannot be a full grown, bitter adult from birth.

Think how much easier life would be! Gosh. Hahahaha

What you can do per hour can vary WILDLY
I have some accounts I can crank out lines on and hit 1000 in 5 hours easily. I have another that can take me nearly 8 hours because of being 90% ESL (really bad ones to boot!) and really tedious account specifics. I have been on this platform for 6 years and have expanded to the max. It can just depend on the accounts you do! :-)
Waving magic calculator

Ok, here goes

CPL:  1-(.095/.1122) = about .154, or an approximate decrease of 15.4% of the original .1122 cpl.

Hourly: 1-(13.5/18.54) = about .272, or an approximate decrease of 27% of the original $18.54.

Glad I could help and glad you got your setup going. nm

glad to help, glad it worked!

Ah yes! Me too, and I needed it!

EMR's -- we will still be needed

I work at a clinic part-time typing into EMR's as well as running my own company.  But now they are loading Stedman's spell check and work expanders onto Word so that I can type in word and then transfer the info over to the electronic chart.  I type faster in word.  They found that it is faster for the doc to dictate rather than type into the chart and not only that, insurances were questioning the "standardization" of the chart notes.   Too similar.  So I do make sure that even though I use expanders, and macros, I do make some minor changes to "standard exams" so it does not all look the same, but this is with the approval of the docs.  But they can see at least 4-6 additonal patients and dictate all the notes rather than type then and are able go home at 5 o'clock instead of 7.   Also the TAT is 48 hours and not weeks as the docs would never finish the notes.   So we will still be here just typing under a different format.

Thanks, I needed that!
:)
No, what for? Never needed it. nm

thanks, but not what I needed to know
Gee, thanks for all that information. I am well aware that I could send an email, and I am well aware of how to crunch the numbers in terms of rate of pay. I was just hoping to hear from someone who already works for the company. Thanks anyway.
Thanks.. that's what I needed to know
Wasn't sure if it was something routine on every sale or if it was that the buyer backed out. I'll just let it stay there and see if I get payment! I'm hoping to get the hang of listing stuff on ebay, but it took me 2 hours to list that one item!  LOL...
yes MTs will always be needed...nm

Thanks, Jay. That's just what I needed to know. nm

I needed to know this. Thank you! (nm)

Thanks. That is what I needed.

Sorry if that's not what you needed. sm
I reread your post. I tried to find specifics about the profile tests and couldn't find anything either.
Thanks, I needed this
I want to thank you for this post. I was feeling really down about my job with voice recognition and I know I am not out there by myself, but I really needed a good laugh about being a psychic transcriptionist. LOL.
Thanks, just want I needed to know

Because I will probably get a Dell laptop pretty soon.

Thanks again for the help

Thanks, I needed that, too.

Thanks! I needed that.

It was much good of yous to care!  Thank you so much for pointing that out.

I don't spellcheck or audit what I type for postings on the internet.  Maybe I should?  After all, I am posting this for myself, not my employer, but you are right, I should care enough.

I think the MTs that Crabby was talking about in her post ought to care too.  I am burnt out from working 14 hours a day to make up for the $$ that I am not making because we all haven't had a raise since 1988 and I believe that MTs with poor skills are part of the reason why all MTs are not getting paid what they deserve.  Are we the only profession that has not had a cost of living raise in practically forever?

There is more needed

I have worked as an IC and employee.  For every some companies, you need WORD 2003.  I could not understand why 2007 would not work, but they swear that it would not work with eScription.  Some people told me that they spoke directly with eScription who said it would; needless to say, I had to purchase a very outdated copy from Amazon.com for about $200.  I was also told that it had to be the full version of WORD.  If you are working with eScription, I am sure that part is correct.

You will have to get a foot pedal, and I was told by last two companies that I was working for (simultaneously) that I had to have a 9-pin foot pedal with a USB adapter which is different somehow than USB alone.

If you are working from a C-Phone then you can rent this equipment from the company.  This would require the unlimited long distance.

Most require highspeed internet.

The other important thing to know is preparing for self-employment taxes.  That is the big one.

I had the hardest time finding good headphones (which you may already have) but finally found the best ever and VERY inexpensive at dictaionwarehouse .com. The salesman was great help and talked me into the less expensive set which was their best seller.  I had already planned on spending $200 for a good set and only spent $25. (Spectra-RA twin speaker headset).  They have these in digital w/USB, stereo, Dictaphone and many other types of connections.  I am now an employee for a specialty clinic and had to go back to tapes and needed mono-headphones, but I am sure the others would be great also and again VERY inexpensive, but the salesman will be honest and tell you for sure.  I just had to share this after the long drawn out hunt.

Orator Pro help needed!
While setting up a network connection for my laptop computer, I inadvertantly deleted a network connection that I THOUGHT was not being used. In the process of deleting the networked drive, I also deleted some folders for the Orator Pro phone-in system. Of course, the Bytescribe company is closed, which means there is no technical support for me right now, and my doctors are unable to phone in dictation until I can get the system back up and running. I have a system restore disk from Bytescribe, but I'm not sure how to use it and am afraid I will make things worse. The disk has Symantec's Ghost software, which gives you options for partitioning drives, etc. Is there anyone out there that has made the same mistake in the past or can help me use the system restore disk?

Thank you. I appareciate any help you can give me.

Follow up is needed.
I responded to a job this morning and at their request sent my resume and did not receive a reply until I saw another posting for the same job on this board. I just dont think this is good business.
It pointed out something that NEEDED to be said
The OP is BRAND NEW. She has no idea what is right or wrong. She just believes her way is right and QA is wrong, even "made up". Paddywhack is right. You follow the preferences of the account that provides your paycheck. If you get a different job, their preferences will probably be different. That doesn't make them wrong. It just means that those are the rules you have to follow to get the paycheck. It's not rocket science. It's common sense. The OP needs to get off her high horse and stop thinking she knows everything and start learning what her employer wants so she can KEEP getting that paycheck.
Mentor Needed
I'm currently a student needing some help and I don't what it usualy cost to get a mentor.  I have only five reports I need help with so you can just tell me how much you'll be willing to help me for.
Mentor Needed
I only have five reports to do. I'm a student and I don't know whats usually paid for mentoring so what ever you would feel comfortable helping me for.
More laughs needed
If you think this board is not boring then something is wrong with you! They were a riot!

Do you know how many people responded yesterday just cracking up at them. People were actually saying they have not laughed that hard in a long long time! This is what this board needs - more laughs and less griping!
Experienced MTs Needed
AccuStat Carolinas is seeking experienced MTs to work on many multispeciality accounts.  All MTs must have high speed internet acess to apply.  All MTs must reside within the US.  NO OFFSHORE NEED APPLY!!!  Each MT will need to have a 9-pin (serial port) foot pedal.  The client will provide all software needed to perform work.  All work must be 98% or above in accuracy to remain with our company.  AccuStat offers statutory employee or IC status with no restrictions on scheduling for either status.  Pay is sent via mail or direct deposit twice a month.  Pay is 7.5 cpl per line for all transcribed work and 2.5 cpl for all edited work.  The program that you will work with is a VR program so you will have both transcribed and editing work.  Please cut and paste resume into email.  Only eligible MTs will receive response.
Opinions needed
My son (18) works for a professional tree service.  He travels daily to the boss's house to load up and travel to the work site.  He's been doing this for a little over 2 months.  He goes on the clock to be paid (I didn't know this until yesterday) from the time they reach the destination where they work.  I just found this out and looked up the state's labor law concerning being paid for travel time.  I find that since he is required to meet at the boss's location to load up that his time for payment should start when he starts there and he should be paid for the travel time as well.  Okay, now we know this.  How would you handle this?  I know what I would do, but am looking for other opinions to share the whole picture with my son.  Thanks.
Luck isn't all that will be needed if going
What do you think, management posting again because they are so desperate for help???
Not needed - in my opinion

I have been told by attorneys and accountants it is  not needed.  The doc signs off on what he dictates and if he does not, I put in "Dictated but not read".  It is his responsibility not ours.   Been at this for over 25 years and never been questioned on if what I typed was what the doc dictated.

Thanks, I needed that Lori! LOL (nm)

Prayers are also needed
Hello: I will say a prayer for this precious little one. He is too young to suffer this way. I also need many prayers for a dear friend with Stage III ovarian cancer, who is undergoing chemotherapy and having a rough time, but has a loving family and is coming home today. It is not hopeless but need prayers.

I also need some prayers for my mother-in-law who is in the hospital with lymphoma and a severe blood infection. If anyone has some extra prayers please send them there way as they are lovely ladies and need a second chance. Thank you. Hope all of our prayers are answered.

ADVICE NEEDED - PLEASE :)

I was offered a home-based MT job as a direct employee of the hospital with an extremely good per-line-rate.   But yes, it was too good to be true!  Apparently on further consideration, the administrator now says it is too costly (technically) for home set-up; mentioned something about the Lanier DVI desktop and how costly etc. etc.  and some other MT has the license (?what's that about?); also mentioned "Cquence" transcription software program.   They already have 5 other off-site MTs.   Anybody out there with opinions and/or constructive advice...please.

I've replied via email.
Thanks.
I guess I needed this and maybe others do too

Gratefulness, Not Hatefulness
Five things we can do to bring healing into our hearts.

Imagine a country whose citizens--maybe even its leaders--are brave, calm, and open towards each other; a country whose people realize that all human beings belong together as one family and must act accordingly; a country guided by common sense. To the extent to which we show ourselves not hateful but grateful, this becomes reality.

But gratefulness? The very word seems utterly out of place, even offensive, under the given circumstances. And yet, that we speak of “given” circumstances is significant. Whatever is given is a gift, and the appropriate response to any gift is gratitude. But what could be the gift in this case?

The gift we were given by the wake-up call of September 11 is an unprecedented opportunity: to wake up, wake up to the madness of violence and counter-violence. What happened to New York was as much and as little a first as what happened to Hiroshima. After all, we witnessed merely the most recent link in a chain of revenge for revenge. This recent retaliation is certainly not the first, but it gives us a unique opportunity to wake up and to make it the last.

Strange though it is, many of us were able to ignore the vicious circle of violence against violence--our own and that of others--as long as it was happening far away. We were asleep. September 11 was a rough awakening.

What now? We can show ourselves grateful for the wake-up call by staying awake, by acting wakefully. A danger recognized and faced is cut in half. The danger is violence regardless of who commits it, terrorists or legitimate governments. No rhetoric, no posturing can any longer obscure the fact that violence breeds violence. We must break that cycle of madness.

Violence has its roots in every heart. It is in my own heart that I must recognize fear, agitation, coldness, alienation, and the impulse to blind anger. Here in my heart, I can turn fear into courageous trust, agitation and confusion into stillness, isolation into a sense of belonging, alienation into love, and irrational reaction into common sense. The creative imagination of gratefulness will suggest to each one of us how to go about this task. I will list here five small gestures that have helped me personally to show my gratitude for the wake-up call and to stay awake.

The creative imagination of gratefulness will suggest to each one of us how to go about this task. I will list here five small gestures that have helped me personally to show my gratitude for the wake-up call and to stay awake.
All gratitude expresses trust. Suspicion will not even recognize a gift as gift: Who can prove that it isn’t a lure, a bribe, a trap? Gratefulness has the courage to trust and so overcomes fear. The air has been electrified by fearfulness these days, a fearfulness fostered and manipulated by politicians and the media. There lies our greatest danger: Fear perpetuates violence. Mobilize the courage of your heart, as the truly awake ones are doing. Say one word today that gives a fearful person courage.

Because gratitude expresses courage, it spreads calm. Calm of this kind is quite compatible with deep emotions. In fact, the mass hysteria rampant all around betrays confusion rather than deep feeling--superficial agitation rather than a deep current of compassion. Join the truly compassionate ones who are calm and strong. From the stillness of your heart’s core reach out. Calmly hold someone’s hand today and spread calm.

When you are grateful, your heart is open--open towards others, open for surprise. In the days since the wake-up call we have seen remarkable examples of this openness: strangers helping strangers often in heroic ways. Others turn away, isolate themselves, dare even less than at other times to look at each other. Violence begins with isolation. Break this pattern. Make contact with people whom you normally ignore--eye-contact at least--with the agent at the toll booth, the parking lot attendant, someone on the elevator. Look a stranger in the eyes today and realize that there are no strangers.

You can feel either grateful or alienated, but never both at the same time. Gratefulness drives out alienation; there is no room for both in the same heart. When you are grateful, you know that you belong to a network of give-and-take and you say "yes" to that belonging. This "yes" is the essence of love. You need no words to express it; a smile will do to put your "yes" into action. Don’t let it matter to you whether or not the other one smiles back. Give someone an unexpected smile today and so contribute your share to peace on earth.

What your gratefulness does for you is as important as what it does for others. Gratefulness boosts your sense of belonging; your sense of belonging in turn boosts your common sense. Your "yes" to belonging attunes you to the common concerns shared by all human beings. After the wake-up call, nothing else makes sense but common sense. We have only one enemy, our common enemy: violence. Common sense tells us that we can stop violence only by stopping to act violently; war is no way to peace. Listen to the news today and put at least one item to the test of common sense.

The five steps I am suggesting here are small, but they work. It helps that they are small; anyone can take them. Yet, if we do so, calm, courage, and common sense--a growing circle of light--will radiate all around us. Who would have foreseen that gratitude could shine forth with new brightness in these dark days? May it light our way.

I needed to hear this.
Thank you very much for this information.  That was another concern I had was that after I have the baby will I be physically able to get back to work soon.  Being an independent contractor I don't have the privilege of having paid time off or anything like that.  So, I believe my story will be similar to yours.  I will have to go back to work that same week that I have my baby.  But like you said the baby is most important.
Advice Needed

I am an IC MT.  My MTSO continually loses files that I have already sent her.  I am paid only for what I type per line, not doing secretarial work.  Just today she said that she needed me to resend EVERYTHING I have done for her since October 15.  That's going in, in separate emails so I don't crash her computer, and sending separate emails with each day's work.  I just spent over an hour doing this.

Saying anything will get her irate, because she doesn't understand the concept of IC versus employee paid by the hour. But does anyone have a good sample email for how I would basically say, "I spent an hour on this.  I bill out at $25 an hour, so further resending of previously sent work will be billed at this rate."

That will probably get me fired.  Any better way to put it?

I really needed to hear this!
I went from being an IC to working for a small MTSO 3 years ago at 7 cpl ...with 27 years experience! Some problems there now made me come check out this board ... I am sooo relieved to find out I don't have to settle for this. Thanks to everybody for sharing!
Advice needed.
Hello everyone! I am needing a little bit of advice. I have been talking to a clinic about doing their transcription. It is a strong possibility that I will be picking up and delivering tapes and files. What do you suggest I charger per line? I do not want to price myself too high, but neither do I want to price myself too low either. I will be driving approximately two and a half hours both ways. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!
Wow I needed this advice

Thank you for posting this and thanks to all for your words of encouragement. I thought about giving up also but I paid too much money for my course to give up.

It was good to read that others failed before they succeeded.

Thanks again.

No form needed.....
Just put your complaint in writing and send by fax, mail or hand deliver to the Patient Care Representative at the hospital.

The PC rep at the hospital I work for investigates all complaints from beginning to end and will make a follow-up call back to the patient or patient family regarding the issue if further comment is wanted.

I've typed these reports for admin and can be very interesting to say the least.

EditScript help needed.
One of my accounts is stalling out when I'm logging in when it gets to the downloading latest contacts.  The other two accounts are working fine.  I tried deleting all the TPL files and have reloaded it a couple times.  Any other ideas?
Editing will always be needed
but the bottom line is $$, as always.
I believe it is "as needed" - so the Dr. or job - sm
would only call you when they get behind, have too much work or someone goes on vacation.
just needed to vent
Thank you. Living paycheck to paycheck was something we (DH and I) thought was far behind us. Due to downsizing (DH had to find a new job, lower pay), taxes that were not paid by former employer (another unexpected out-of-pocket expense), lack of work by my former MTSO, and other issues, we have been playing “catch up”. I have been working diligently on rectifying the situation – but it is a frustrating process... I just had the need to vent.
TIPS NEEDED

Does anyone have any tips for me? I have just gone from plain old tapes to using digital files through Cryptoheaven.  With my tapes, I could type the entire day's dictation for the day in one word document.  Now with the digital files, each note is dictated in separate files.  It takes much longer to download the file, create the new documents, save, and  upload than it does to type it.  These are very short notes.  I'm working half the day with only about 30,000 characters typed! Am I doing something wrong or is this just the way it is?
