Well said, well said, and like it or not...true.  Then I read the responses  and re-thought, and I still think it is well said... and true.  You are right on the money with the advantages the new school-trained MTs have over the experienced on-the-job MT's from years ago.  I did miss a lot of useful information from learning on the job and I have often thought of taking a course just to catch up and be able to understand medical content rather than just being a correct speller and fast typist.  In the 70's all you needed to get a job as an MT was good spelling and fast typing and the ability to learn on the job.  Truthfully, I wanted the job because I liked the flexible hours, not because I was medically inclined.  But I loved the challenge and the hours and stayed with it.


You give good advice.  And yes, the BOS is a hangup for me.  To me, transcribing the correct medical information, correct medications and dosages were the most important thing.  Now, QA seems to dwell on things out of the BOS that just do not seem that important.  But, like you say, if you want to do this job, that's what you have to learn.  So be it!
