What I did

I recorded onto a tape using Windows Media Player. While the recording was not as good as the original, I was able to control the dictation while I transcribed it, and then went back and listened with the media player to ensure accuracy and fill in blanks. It worked for me :).

The Express Scribe option is good too, since control can be achieved via the keyboard or a footpedal (if you have one), but I tried it first and it just was not easy for me, not being used to keyboard control.

There are different types of footpedals out there, and I did not want to have to buy more than one (although I wound up doing that too, but that's another story). Good luck! :)
