some kind of numbing cream on my nipple, but by time the procedure got under way, I don't think it was working anymore.  She also said the guy that was doing it was good at it, so I was okay and ready to be done with it, until he actually started.  He initially asked for a curved needle, and now looking back I always wonder why.  He tried probably 6-8 times to get the contrast material injected into the milk duct with no success . Finally I asked him how many more times he was going to try, because I was at the end of my rope.  Finally, he asked for a straight needle and it went right in and he was done in about 20 or 30 seconds with no pain.  I wanted to kick him in the head!
