Okay - in NYC, Los Angeles and SF word processors made $20-25/hr and more. I lived in NYC and I promise you that we were overloaded with male typists, including older married men and people with professional degrees.

I have been fortunate enough not to have to deal with the small-town mentality re jobs for quite some time. I DID live down south as a child and know what that is.

The rates paid to do MT work are outrageously low for the most part considering you need the equivalent of a college education to be really good at it. And the truth is that you only make decent money at it if you are salaried (e.g. in-hospital) or if you are a fast typist (which I am).

When I first started I could NOT believe the salaries being offered. and I was even MORE flabbergasted when I saw so many places offered these rates and tons of women flocked to their doorstep and the only thing they do about it is sit on these boards complaining non-stop about their companies.

 Go figure!!!!
