I like my QA person, but I also know she's not posting
here. She's very professional at her job and doesn't need to laugh at people or post their mistakes in a public forum. I'll admit, there are some funny MT mistakes out there. However, I found the tone of most of the responses offensive because the mistakes weren't humorous whatsoever. The original post asked for FUNNY mistakes, not making FUN of people's mistakes. THAT is what offends me about this thread.
The problem is that the person posting the job
didn't post any specifics about their company, pay rates, TAT or anything. With the errors made in the post, how are we supposed to know if it's someone trying to steal identities or collect information? We can't be too careful these days. Any person can open an email account or register a domain name. Without verifiable contact information like reverse lookup on the phone number or WHOIS domain name info, we don't actually know who is on the receiving end.
The person she is posting about has posted extensively
about her situation on another board and what is represented here is not exactly the situation as posted by the person herself.

There are plenty of "educated" boneheads out there in the world. There are plenty of "uneducated" people who live in houses nicer than mine! Educated people live in trailers and work in bars, too.
The term "trailer trash" refers to people who don't care for their property. They'd rather be brawling and getting drunk than putting any effort into picking up the trash that's littered all over their yard and house.
I know all my neighbors. I can show you homes of "uneducated" people that are nicer than the homes of the "educated". We have several immigrants on our block that have no high school or college education. However, they are the nicest neighbors to have. They care for their property. They are kind and generous people.
The undesirables in the neighborhood have a lot of problems that have nothing to do with their education level or type of house.

LMAO especially at all of the stuff that needs to be done, but can't because I have to sit here and type while there is no work to type, but I still must sit here. I sat once for 19 hours waiting for work, catching a job here and there, to get my required line count for the day of 1,000+ and ended up with 600 lines of work for 19 hours of sitting and not getting paid. Then had nerve to email me and tell me I did not get my line count in for the day??? My whole 8 hour shift only had 2 jobs to transcribe and the other 5 jobs I stole from the 1st shift. I couldn't jump through their hoops anymore. It is hard to transcribe work that is not there. Then they call ya...and remind you that you are not on transcribing on your shift. Sometimes after sitting for 4 hours of no work and emailing everyone in the company directory looking for work to make a complete shift, you log off, take a shower, do dishes or laundry, cook and come back in an hour or so to check and if still no work, maybe take a nap. It was like I was an on-call Transcriptionist 24/7 and only paid for what I transcribed, but want you to sit around 20 hours just to meet the required line count with no work to transcribe!! Calculate that 600 lines in 20 hours (still not reaching the 1,000+ line count because they had no work to transcribe). That is $60 for 20 hours of sitting and baby-sitting a computer to transcribe only 600 lines at $3 an hour???? I think the people overseas may be making more than me here in the US. :-(

encountered when working the graveyard (3rd) shift. If you can steer clear of that shift, despite the shift differential, don't take it on. Long ago, company hierarchy coined these workers "the clean-up sweepers."

I was very spooky reading your post because you are describing me and you have no idea who I am.
I have tried over and over the diet thing and I hate how I look, although, I think there are some heavy people out there that do not care and are very outgoing even though they are heavy, unfortunately that is not me. I tend to not want to go to social things because of it. I am very lucky too in that I am almost 6', I could not imaging weighing my weight and only being 5'4".

It is an INSULT to have QA hovering over seasoned MTs who know what they are doing. She trusts her MTs and again if there are questions there is one person, a trainer, who can answer them via phone, e-mail or instant message or you can send the whole report to them if you choose.
Point was is the person willing to make up for the slack of the person who types 1 job when there is

You have crap supervisors, editors and mts in the business like you have good ones. Sadly, the really good ones of all of them are few and far between.
When you have a QA person that is picky and another QA person that is very lenient where does that
leave the MTs because some are getting a lenient reviewer and others are getting one that picks at everything. How do you reconcile that issue with the difference in QA mentality. Some people make out well and the other people could be just as good but dont. I wonder about that.

The raise you're describing is a merit-raise, - (SM)
and I agree that a worker has to go above and beyond in order to get them. But what doesn't seem to happen in this industry is COST-OF-LIVING raises, which should automatically come to workers either in small increments yearly, or in larger increments every 2-3 years. Without wages that are at least somewhat *realistic* (and modern-day MT wages are a pathetic joke), it's no wonder quality workers are harder and harder to come by, and much harder to retain. An MT should not have to work sweatshop hours for 7 days a week just to keep their head above water financially.

One person's "custom" is another person's
"house arrest". I'd never go to the Middle East because of how they treat women. I don't agree with their laws or "justice" system. For example, the woman who was gang raped as punishment for the actions of her 12-year-old brother, a boy who wasn't even an adult. How's that for a "custom"? Let's not forget bride burning. Burqas.
Besides, foreigners don't follow our "customs" when they come to this country. Half of them don't even bother learning English. Instead, we're expected to pay for healthcare and foodstamps for illegals and print everything in Spanish.
I won't be oppressed or treated as a second class citizen, and I wouldn't treat others like that either. A "custom" is more like putting up a Christmas tree, not being abused based on your gender.

I recently did the same thing and am loving it! The freedom from time clocks, the better company, make losing the benefits well worth it to me. You need to set up a plan to have $ set aside for taxes though. I should have done this years ago!

No, you don't type directly into ES. You type in Word -
or whatever their platform is, just like you did with your tapes.
Then you do your line count in Word or the platform.
You should type them. I usually type them in parentheses following the diagnosis.

If you would notice the posts from Zipper, Frankie Boy and No whining the wording is almost exactly the same in their posts and Barney is defending them. If you ever saw the posts from Frankie Boy and Zipper, they were extremely offensive. No one in their right mind would think they are funny or want them back on the board.

My husband told me (ex-racerider) to ride in the corral til we got used to each other -- i thought, 2 hours in a corral? -- i've always just rode out in the open...but now i find that i've spent these last 3 wk exclusively in the corral except for 2 outings when a friend could go with me. I feel like all my molecules have started to respond to the movement under me again (pretty rusty), but was totally upset by those feelings of *&#%# ?? Hate to call it fear, because i have felt true fear before and this was different. But it was totally new to me and i didn't like it. Yesterday was better. I always had so much confidence before and its making me doubt myself to have had these fleeting feelings that day. This is probably about the best colt to have if i'm starting with a young horse (which i also didn't plan on doing, another story); he's been well-started and basically laid back and level headed...again, thanks for your post (and to all). jml

Some of my stuff has been acting weird, too. Just curious...have you tried uninstalling the Update w/ Service Pack? Long story short, my DBF is in IT, said to uninstall the update, but when I tried it said "this update cannot be uninstalled." Oh great!!! Guess I should have known to have him install a Service Pack manually. They can screw things up big-time sometimes if they're not done right.
Anyway, ditto on the heads up folks.

I need help asap. I asked on the tech board about a couple of things: 1. Since I installed VWPlayer on my PC, it has been running a lot slower and my screen has been freezing causing me to lose jobs. Also, everywhere I look for directions on backing up autocorrect, it says something about look in C:ProgramFilesMicrosoftOffice and then it says office10, but my only option is to look in Office and when I do, it does not say macros. I have MS Word 2000 if that helps. Also, I just recently added some memory (going from 128 to 384 after addng 256) Are there any techies around? Thanks for all your help!!

I got some smart mouthed answers and I received help that discounted that, so it evened out. Posting is good for you, you are as sick as your secrets and I am not going to judge anyone who posts upset. That's a good thing, get it off your chest. Don't run away. Stay and we'll support you IMHO. Good luck to you, sounds like you're having a tough time. Been there, done that, I showed up 2 hours late for a TAT in my black dress and got a nasty remark. I buried my Dad at 9:00 and went at 11:00 am to return my work. I said, "I just buried my Dad this morning." Didn't make a darned bit of difference. You get no sympathy from TAT excuses, believe me, one doc told me he didn't care who died, he just wanted his work. Stay, please.

I imagine those shows do over dramatize everything. But I do hope it really did give your husband an overall appreciation for what you do. I work part-time, I couldn't even imagine working full-time and doing all of my mom/wife/housekeeper duties.

You can't always believe what you see on TV. All of that is edited to make for better ratings. It seemed like you both gained a little something from the experience though, so that is a plus.
