The truth of the matter is anyone doing anything could be out of a job tomorrow, just like anybody could be hit by a car tomorrow. I know that sounds kind of morbid, but a friend of mine who is an MTSO was pointing this out to me the other day. I mean look at all those poor people at companies like Enron (sp?). They were working a "secure" job where they had retirement etc.... and then poof it was gone and no retirement or anything! This can happen in any profession, any company, any time is the truth. If you enjoy being an MT then I think you should keep enjoying it as long as you can. I mean if you listen to some people "we could make as much if not more working at McDonalds" (not that we would want to work there). The point is our skills in this profession are not totally unmarketable in the "real world." We can become many things with our skills in typing alone. And, you know my mom finally found her dream job 2 years ago at the ripe young age of 56 so.... God (or whatever higher power you might believe in) will provide.
