Any time you're adding formatting like bold or italics you need to tick the formatted text option to save that formatting.
What makes ICs tick?

I have heard the following soooo many times, and I have been very guilty of this in the past myself, namely:

Fear of booting out one client and going after new clients who are professional - ones who are amenable to actually working with an MTSO/IC as a partnership so to speak, realizing that it takes the individual dictator AND the MT to produce an accurate report, and both will mutually benefit in ways too numerous to count?

Why is it that some ICs will continue to work with a client that they know is a gigantic pain in the tush and will never give them heave-ho, no matter how how bad they become and how good the IC is and no matter how many hoops she jumps through versus just going out and getting a new account?

I have had this fear myself, but thankfully, my self-confidence has taken over this fear and my common sense has directed me in the right path, and do not think I'm slamming anyone because I'm not.  I'd just like to know.  What makes us - ICs - tick in this regard?

All replies welcome............................

As editor, MT like the OP tick me off. So

That used to tick me off, too. I would just get livid when the doctor would say...sm
"Typist, take a letter."  This was way back when I first started at my first job and I thought I knew everything there was to know!  Eventually I got over it.  I am sorry you lost your job.  There are really good companies out there.  Good luck and keep your chin up.
Hit alt F9 to show the codes. Did you tick the
formatted text radio button when you added to autocorrect?
Only your formatted AutoCorrect entries are in the normal.dot. sm
The rest of them are in your acl file. See the link below.

You've confused people here by calling your text expansion entries "macros."

AutoText and formatted AutoCorrect entries are
saved in the normal.dot file. Unformatted AutoCorrect entries are saved in the .acl file.
AutoFormat is not going to bring back your formatted
AutoCorrect entries.

AutoFormat and AutoFormat as You Type are options only, not entries.

Do you have a backup of your normal.dot that you can copy over? When you were asked if you wanted to replace your normal.dot, what did you name the file? Or were you asked if you wanted to save changes to the normal.dot?

Do a search for "*.dot" files (without quotes) and see how many normal.dot files you have. It's possible that your old file is still there. You might have to change your view in the Search dialog box to Details so you can see the dates of the files. Make sure the normal.dot is in the correct Template folder. If you have more than one normal.dot, Word uses the first file it finds.

in the future, there will be no more dictation...only formatted templates...see inside
it is called point-of-service, or something similar - where a doctor sits next to you, and enters all your info into a palm-size computer. No need for dictation, eventually no need for billing. it will all be done at the time of service.

this is the website and below is the person overseeing it's fruition:

Click the radio button for formatted text.
You'll find it just above the entry.
You can even put graphics in autocorrect. Just click the formatted button.

Entry-Level MTs

Hello to all!

Can anyone give any advice on where I may be able to go and find an entry-level MT position?  I greatly appreciate all the responses I hope to receive.  Thanks all!

Entry Level MT's
MedQuist hires entry levels with good testing scores. Fax them your resume. Its worth a try. Good luck
data entry

Has anyone done Data Entry jobs from home?  Thanks

this happens to me sometimes if my entry came from an enrich...sm
I would use the search function in the glossary viewer and edit the entry...if you edit it, it should work fine. Or, you can just make a new entry with the same sentence

HTH!
Entry level MT's
Hello.................I know all of you are tired of hearing about how hard it is to find a job at entry level.  I have two certificates from two separate programs.  I have been working for a clinic here where I live part time typing clinic notes.  It is only about two hours per day.  I found a lady on this site who said she would hire anybody if she could find somebody willing to work.  I emailed her and she promised to get me started asap.  That was a few months before Christmas and she still hasn't contacted me.  Does anybody know how to get started as entry level.  I truly need the work.  My part time is paying well but two hours a day is not very much.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.................
entry level
It is very true, I graduated college in 2004 and I am still looking to find a company that will hire me at the entry level.
We are more than data entry BUT...
Yes, they will still need us to copyedit and clean up the voice recognition and offshore "crude" product, but from what I've read on these boards, there's not going to be much money in this for MTs.

I too am thinking of leaving MT for another field. This summer my 15-year-old son got his first summer job as basically an unskilled laborer at minimum wage, and he was making quite a bit more per hour as I ended up getting, turning an Indy 500 ESL's mishmash into a perfect operative report. The day I learned that, I decided to start rethinking my career choices.

By the way, I'm one more experienced MT who finds it mind-boggling that people are still out there debating the merits of the various MT schools out there. Wake up and smell the coffee, people!
data entry
I agree. But don't you know, there's always someone lurking in front of their keybord waiting to belittle someone else's from-the-heart question??
next blog entry is up for those of you who like it

anyone know how to enter an entry for

Help with setting new entry in VPN
I need some expertise... I have VPN for a company on desktop set up, need to create a new entry for another company.. .is that possible?  I have the file in the right folder (PCF or something close to that file) and did the wizard, but it says no valid ID when I know it is... what am I doing wrong?
It is an entry position.
I wouldn't consider it a crap job. It is an entry position. There is not a lot of stress unless you work in ICU. If someone codes then the unit clerk has to take notes while the patient is being worked on (at least where I worked). Other than that I enjoyed it. A lot of paper work, keeping the charts in order, answering phones, that type of stuff.
Entry-level position

Hi, I received my MT diploma in August of 2004 from The Career Development Institute.  My average grade was 97%.  I was very excited about finding an MT position but soon discovered that I was in a catch-22 situation.  I had the training and medical terminology education but no experience.  Every advertisement that I found required at least two years of working experience.  Is there any advice anyone could give me to get my foot in the door?  How do MT's begin working when they are new to the field?

Any info. would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks, Jane L. Creppel

Tip on how to break into entry level...
Could you post the tip? I think I missed it. There's someone else above looking for tips, and it might help her too. Thanks!

Might have to do Ctrl + K and then Alt + B and your entry, then turn off.

set up a separate entry for that with all caps. that's what I do.

Entry Level Jobs

Hi everyone! I have a quick question for anyone who has the time to answer. I am looking in to a career in the MT field. I have not started classes yet but I am going to check them out next week. I did a search for MT companies in my area. I noticed that on alot of their websites you had to have so many years experience before you could gain employment with them. If I decide to take classes in medical transcription, how likely is it that I will be able to find employment with someone on an entry level? I have heard from some people that it is nearly impossible to get a job without the experience even if you have certification. Is this true?

Shorthand users. Can you tell me how to set up an entry for...sm
today's date and yesterday's date so it will expand correctly?  TIA
Data entry position
My post did show so I will ask again...does anyone know where I can find a listing of jobs for data entry positions?
Add the nonbreaking hyphen in your entry. sm
Add the nonbreaking space for your other entries.

In MS Word, the shortcuts are: Ctrl+Shift+Hyphen and Ctrl+Shift+Spacebar
I'd keep the habit but change the IT entry
so that it comes out the way you want it - make it adjust to your habits.
Flyingfingers, when you add or edit an entry...SM
there's a box on the bottom left called "Tags." At the end of your entry where you don't want a space, open that and insert "No Space."
certainly not data entry or typing,
my reward, aside from pay, is satisfaction that i am doing a very specialized job in an excellent manner. after 34 years, it seems more tedious and difficult, but i enjoy the work.
Pay Rate For Entry Level MT

Could someone give me an idea as to what an acceptable pay per line rate would be for an entry level position?

Is there any advice you can give a gal just starting out?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Have a great day!

Medical transcription isn't data entry, but you can
check with Career Builder and Monster and see what they have, you can Google for it and see if there is a board like this for data entry.
You need to use the command feature of IT when you make your entry sm
Copy and insert your text into a new IT entry. Now go back thru the entry and each time you want a field to be placed, you have to hit the "command" button on the bottom left of the window. Then hit CTRL+F9 to create a world field (this will make the little bracket thingies when it spits out in Word). When you're all done, hit OK and there you go!
Is there a space or a hard return at the end of your entry? sm
that's the only thing I can thing of that would cause this. In the "text to expand" box, hit ctrl+end and this will take you to the very end of your expansion. Maybe there's a space or something there that you can't see.

I know you've been having a lot of trouble with this lately! Good luck!
Add the Ctrl + B commands at the beginning and end of entry.
You click the command button in the Add window. The manual has more instructions.
Make an autocorrect entry of bid that expands to b.i.d.
tid to t.i.d., etc.  That's what I do, it works for me.
In IT, a paragraph is always in entry screen (from Wordpad). How do I get rid of this 4ever?
