The years that you spent diligently composing these written documents, IMO, should have the same protection/respect as any other author/writer.  I personally would have a very difficult time helping those ease into the transition of no longer needing my services, while I have to turn to the Job Seeker's board. Just because you made above average income doesn't obligate you to just handing over your work.  Owning your own account is a huge responsibility and can be very stressful. As an IC working for someone else, when my 1000 lines a day are produced, I log off and enjoy the rest of the day.  Doctors earn $100 an hour (at least) and no one seems to have a problem with that.  I wouldn't burn a bridge because they most likely will need your services in the future, but you don't "owe" them anything.  This was a business contract.  I hope everything works out for you. :)
