This is quite interesting...it is too long to post here but I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on the statistics.  Thanks!

Better Business Bureau BBB.ORG 39 hits of
Ameriplan with UNSATISFACTORY ratings.  Do more investigating before you waste your money on an MLM scam, and please don't tell me to check it out because I already did two years ago.
Not listed with Better Business Bureau?
I have been offered a really good position with a company, however they have no web site and are not listed with the BBB. Should I be suspicous? They are a small company, but shouldn't they be listed voluntarily or something?
Go to myfico.com..they give you all 3 credit bureau sm
scores and they come within 1 to 2 points of your actual FICO score (what creditors look at).  I just bought a house and did months of researching credit scores, cleaning up credit, etc.  Another good site is creditboards.com.  They have everything!

Filed complaint with Better Business Bureau against MTSO
for nonpayment after 90 days. Requested payment multiple times to no avail. Nothing but empty promises. Has anyone ever been successful getting paid after going through the BBB?
Will filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and District Attorney do me any good if a sm
I live in a different state than her.  Also the amount is less than $100.  Thanks.
95%???? Don't know where you get your statistics.
You're generalizing. And you obviously have one hell of a chip on your shoulder. You seriously need some anger management help.
You seem to have a lot of statistics for someone who is
So, I think you've just blown your cover.
What statistics?
Can you cite your statistics that trailer parks are where criminals usually go?  I work in the criminal justice system in an area where all of the municipalities have "zoned out" trailers and trailer parks, and the crime rate here is much higher than in the town I originally came from, which has a trailer park every mile, it seems.  While property-oriented crimes are likely to take place in poorer neighborhoods, child molesters come from every walk of life.  They are no more likely to be trailer dwellers than penthouse dwellers.  The difference?  The penthouse dwellers have the cash to keep it quiet.  Kid yourself if it makes you feel safer, but your statistics prove nothing.
I don't doubt you, anyone knows statistics
can be manipulated to show anything you want them to.
There is proof in the statistics
Not long ago there was an article in Advance magazine about salaries.  CMTs do make an average of, I believe it was, 20% more than a non-CMT.  That's proof enough for me.
can check the statistics for you? *l*..nm
x
Statistics prove...
whatever you want them to prove. As one of my instructors quoted "there are lies, damn lies, and statistics." You've just seen statistics used to prove exactly opposite statements.
The statistics do not take into count sm
when you use ShortHand say to insert a normal, many characters, and you change a lot of them.  In my opinion, most Expanders are about the same productivity-wise, just depends on how fine-tuned you have them to your particular dictators.
This is nothing new. This has been the way they count statistics for years. nm
x
Ah, but actual statistics and things like that
make it so less fun for them to WHINE AND WHINE!! Great post! There are some bitter MTs out there. Whew!
The fact is and statistics will prove sm
that the majority of employers do not compensate extra for a CMT. I currently work three jobs.  NOT ONE of my jobs compensates me for my CMT, which will expire in 2007 and I will not be renewing it.  There are two sides to every coin.  Why is it that you feel you have to call people who don't agree with you a whiner. That's very immature and insulting.
another GREAT post and with statistics!! T.Y.

He's stating statistics and facts. You're LOL-ing
for lack of any facts, stats or intelligent statements. You are showing your ignorance and lack of education and class, as well as your resentment and jealousy of those who have successful lives because they got off their butts and did something - like go to college and control the direction fo their lives instead of blaming other people for everything.

Typical loser.
Facts and statistics from the Medical Records Institute

Medical Transcriptionists

Well above 90% female with an average age of 49

Most were on-the-job trained for years prior to the development of formal transcription curricula

Majority of new entrants receiving too little education and/or training

Retiring faster than qualified transcriptionists are entering the market

The vast majority resides in the US; however, increasing quantities of entrants are from offshore including

India , Pakistan , Philippines , the Caribbean , etc.

**snort** statistics, schmastics, what a bunch of bull

take a report you get the gross pay for and do a file/properties/statistics
get the total character count with spaces and divide by 65 I think 6.5 gross line will put a little over 8 cents per 65 character line with spaces.
Nobody (well hardly anybody) gives raises. If the work is easy, you know your account, you might not find greener pastures.

You could take on a part-time account instead of just quitting the one you have, sometimes that switch is a wrong move, anything to break the fall.

Also, MP Count is a free software for line counting and invoicing. Its on the MedPen website.
okay neatly correlated lies. and the trailer parks are really neat little hideaways the statistics
no excuse for not researching with google or even yahoo. my neighborhood is zoned to not allow trailer parks (ever wonder why???) thus my property if more valuable than another community that is not zoned against trailer parks. Now did you ever consider why communities would even think of having a zoning commission that would ban trailer parks. Community standards might come in to play and they don't want property values diminished. GOOGLE friend. The truth will set you free.
What are you doing for labor day?
xxx
Not til the Wed. after Labor Day ...
here near Rochester, NY.
I don't. It is just as labor-intensive and-
you end up fixing things like changing "were" to "are", "a" to "an", that kind of thing.  Easier in my opinion to type from scratch, not to mention that you are usually making half what a normal line rate is to do VR.
I am, too, wonder if it's just because of the Labor Day holiday?
nm
No, its cheap labor.
x
7 or even 7.5 cpl is slave labor

I had a company offer me 7.5 cents recently and I said no, perservered it out, and found a great company that pays 10 cents a line and they actually care about their MTs, not treat them like a number.   Hold out for what you deserve to be paid and don't compromise.  A company paying 7 cents is looking for slave labor.

Slave labor
... sounds like someone is on their high horse in a third world country and expects American MTs to get with the slave labor mentality!
You can also go to the Dept. of Labor. (n/m)
x
They use overseas labor.
.
Need labor union
After 20 years in this industry I can't wait to get out of it - early retirement here I come...They want to pay highly skilled translators (which is more what we do) at rate of a typist.
Labor Board
Forget the state - go to the Department of Labor on website - I had to, my company "borrowed" from my IRA and although I got my money, I did not get my interest, cap gains etc. The labor board is helping me now, including filing charges against them for bouncing checks etc. The problem is if no one complains when the check bounces not much you can do. Bounce a check at walmart and go to court possible jail- bounce a paycheck and do nothing if they send out another to you, doesn't matter when they do, just that they do.  If it happens often, don't request a new check file charges and then get your money. They won't do it again.
What you doing over the Labor Day holiday?

Happy Labor Day!

Speaking of labor, I am working today.  Anyone else working this holiday?

If indeed more co. using China labor we need
x
Why would it cost $140? inc. labor?
you can do it yourself, it's easy.  I doubled mine for about $60, but I think I got another 512 MB or so, then got I think a $20 rebate. I noticed the speed.  It's easier to keep multiple programs running and loaded and properly functioning at one time.  Multitasking is easier.  My work computer is 256, tell me that doesn't suck!  I spend half my day waiting, it seems.
Yep, that is labor also and you gotta know
I am dumb when it comes to computers and such. I would hate to really mess something up to where I could not work. I might have to have some memory removed in order to go to 1.5 but my computer will go to 2. Wonder if I should go for that much? thanks for the advice.
Labor Board

For those of you who are not getting paid (seems like an epidemic) report your employer to the labor board in your state.  A word on Gant Transcription - this being a company who either does not pay or sends checks with insufficient funds - be wary of any advertisements here or on any other board - it's a bad deal - remember you are not working for free - and this company does not pay unless forced to.  Don't fall into Gant's trap unless you like spending your days and nights working for nothing.  If your company is not paying - keep all correspondence and report them immediately to your labor board - they will straighten things out.  The BBB is not the way to go - they can do nothing to get your past wages to you - but the Wage and Labor Board can and will.

I am an IC so labor board can't help
I will be filing a small claims suit next. Unfortunately this company is in Midwest and I am on East Coast, so I am going to have to look into the logistics of it. Thanks.
Labor laws
I think there may be some strong labor laws against such behavior. State labor laws obviously vary, but even Federal Labor Laws should prevent this.

I hate to hear about collusion like this against a person, who possibly just had the temerity to disagree.

Quig
It is not manual labor...
just another excuse by you
Department of Labor
Were you awarded a judgment in your favor and how long it takes?
Try the Department of Labor and Industry.
You can turn them into the State Attorney General's office, BBB, FTC, as well.  And small claims court.  I would send a certified letter demanding payment first with the threat that if they do not pay by XX date, you will pursue further legal action against them.
So I am the one doing the labor and get 8 cpl. Frank and all the managers
need a little something-something for all their "hard" work.  We MTs are so
Turn them in to the BBB and the Department of Labor.
They're scamming people.  Somebody needs to stop them before they hose over any other new MTs.  Parents magazine even had an article about TranScam.
Slave labor, I agree
His $10 bid was probably from China (or the company which MT's are not allowed to talk about here anymore).
Labor laws in some states (particularly CA) SM
are more stringent and some of the nationals won't hire from certain states because their laws are stricter than federal labor laws.
check with the dept of labor...sm
they might be able to handle it for free
