This has to do with US greed, not Indian greed.

Corruption does exist in this business.
I recall working for YOG. When it was purchased by MQ, my account suddenly became unrecognizable. It was apparent that one MT was getting the majority of the quick-money work, namely canned reports for a surgeon who did nothing else but. They are the cream of the crop and one day, they suddenly stopped coming to us. It was always the same MT who received them and then, it was clear the jobs were being assigned. Only one MT appeared to increase production and was making a ton of money comparatively speaking.

The rumour of kick backs floated around, with the MT kicking back a portion of their income to the person assigned to job allocation. At the same time, MQ was tweaking the line count. We all watched our incomes decline except for this particular MT.

It would be prudent if managers would observe income levels of individual MTs and if there is a sudden increase or decrease for any length of time that is out of the ordinary, an audit of the account take place by an objective staff member.

Being paid by piece work leaves us all vulnerable to manipulation should the account managers have freedom from scrutiny.

In this case we all were at the mercy of unscrupulous individuals as there was no oversight of the account manager.
I've recently heard a LOT about corruption in NO as well,

including politicians and police.  These terrible things that we've seen on TV are actual everyday occurrances in NO on a NORMAL day, not just springing up since the hurricane and tragedy.

We're talking about 2 separate tragedies, first the hurricane THEN the breakdown of the levee system (an accident waiting ot happen IMO and the opinion of several other people).  I have a friend in LA who tells me they've had problems with this levee previoiusly, had gotten money to fix it, but somebodies deep pockets (sounds like some MT companies) got a little fuller through the process and the repairs were not done as they should be.  THE NO government KNEW there was going to be a breech in the levee system soon, I think it just happened sooner than they thought it would.  OF course, NOBODY is going to be investigating this now.....they have bigger problems to deal with and more than anyone can handle right now.

With that said, I thought the NO government did try to get people to leave.  THERE are STILL people that WON'T!  How absurd is that????!!  Death and sludge all around you and you CHOOSE to stay....even though it means you may die.  I heard several reports on the TV with the NO mayor telling people to LEAVE the CITY, they didn't want to until it was too late.  The Super Dome was supposed to be a place of refuge for elderly and sick.....not everyone.  It certainly turned out to be a BAD idea all the way around.

All in all, I think the government there did TOO LITTLE TOO LATE and the people surely SUFFERED.  These people will have a long recovery ahead, no matter where they decide to make their homes, and I'd be real curious to know how many WILL NOT go back to NO just because of this tragedy.

People cannot fight the power and corruption that is present

in he political system.  These politicians are bought by special interests.  Many of the people with special interests are corporations, insurance companies, etc.  They have major money to contribute to run a politician's campaign.  Both Democrats and Republicans take this money.  So if both the politicians are in need of money to win an election and you and I can provide the money the special interests are going to be heard above and beyond the little guy with a beer in his hand who is working 8-5 and wouldn't know how to organize a revolution if he had an instruction book.  Besides he is too darn tired and has to mow the grass, take the kids to the movies, etc, etc, etc.

So you got both parties taking special interest money in return for favors granted (or the funding is stopped and the party can't win) What is the American public going to do?  Not vote?  You only get two choices and the system is corrupt.  What do you do?  Once again, you are assuming the American public is intelligent and united.  If you read posts or editorials anywhere you will see the American public is divided led by sound bites or blind loyalty to a political party.  You aren't going to see anyone overthrow this government in this lifetime.  People in power are not going to give it up to let Joe-Six-Pack run the country on his $100 day budget to campaign.  It is sad but true.  We have been led down a path that it is too late to turn back.  While the politicians were passing these laws to allow offshoring/outsourcing, we were watching TV or busy with daily activities of living, thinking this will never affect me.  And it's the same deal now.

Anybody agree on who should be president?  How about Iraq war?  Anybody agree on forcing the national companies to pay us more for MT?  Come on.  Be real.  You can't unite this country on the smallest issues.

GREED
x
Oh, you better believe there's a LOT of greed
+
It's all about greed in this country. sm
We need to figure out how much in the way of tax revenue (from the reduced income of MTs and from the MTSOs) that is lost because of offshoring. That might get someone's attention. They obviously don't care about our privacy.
MTSO Greed #1!
.
Greed is an addiction too. sm
Not all addictions are to intoxicating chemicals. Greed is definitely an addiction. And the hallmark of addiction to anything is that it never satisfies, but just creates a need for more and more. We seem to be living in an age of pure greed. It is unfortunate.
I really feel for you. It's amazing what greed does
to a person.

My neighbor went through a lot with her siblings. She told us all the details because we're like family. We've lived next door to each other for years. Her siblings were upset and embarrassed when they found out we knew.

I had to watch the house constantly for her when she wasn't there since she knew I worked from home.

Good luck and be careful.
Amen! AHDI Greed #2

If greed is their motto, they'll sell

No, corporate greed is what sends work overseas.
The only reason offshoring is alive is because our fellow Americans are too cheap to pay a living wage. They want their companies to show a greater profit and stock to go up.

I am an excellent MT. However, I can't make squat for money in this field because every single company I get on with sticks me with their lousiest accounts. I've learned seven new accounts in the past month between a small MTSO and a national. That's how it works. You do your best, QA scores reflect it, and they give you their garbage that nobody else will do.
Walmart is trying to save the consumer MONEY. It's not all about corporate greed.
Rubbermaid products are advertised. So the costs of doing business with Rubbermaid factor in advertising costs. Now I don't care what brand name of plastic container I buy if the quality is equal. So I buy Rubbermaid's competitor (I forget the name) cheaper because they don't advertise. I also think there are a lot of big executives at Rubbermaid who take a bigger profit each year which once again factors in the price of Rubbermaid.

With the economy as it is, gas prices soaring, interest rates up, taxes up, our pay going down (MQMT), I don't care to subsidize Rubbermaid's advertising budget or their CEOs salary. And I go to Walmart and buy the plastic container that is cheaper because they don't advertise.
Corporate greed is a rampant disease that will end up killing the American middle class....sm
These people never have enough, there are no scruples, In God We Trust is just something printed on currency instead of being a moral principle carried down by our Founders...the French started a revolution over this. I hate all war and violence, but how do we stop global economy as being the tool which the corporate entities use to rape the middle class workers? Sorry for the rant, bad week....year!

My son learned more homeschooling then he ever learned at school. He actually could get the information he needed without having to sit through rubbish in the classrooms, kids talking, burned out teachers, the trouble making kids, all the "junk" that seems to be moreso in today's classrooms than ever before. Even his teachers agreed. Several said if they weren't teaching, they would liked to have homeschooled their own children....they feel they learn more.

Yep, Trump put him in an awkard spot and I think Randall handeled it right. Maybe Randall can hire Rebecca to work for him now if he wants.

I totally agree - I had surgical menopause at 32, both ovaries and uterus out, and I'm now 56, and it has been awful - depression, menopausal symptoms EVERYDAY since then with little help from HRT...I wish I had someone to tell me what to expect. Think about it very seriously - really. Best of luck in your decision.

I really do find some of it interesting, and I like to feel like I am contributing to the overall care of the patient. I have a couple of decent accounts I consistently work on, and I really cannot complain at all about them.  The people I deal with at my company are nice too.

I was a SAHM for 7 years before doing this and I really like working again.  The kids are still young (7,almost 4, almost 3) and it is nice to be able to flex my schedule a bit if one is home sick from daycare/school and also to attend all of those class parties blah blah blah without begging permission to work through lunch or stay late to do so.

I don't like doing the same thing for 40 hours per week though.  I have a hard time sitting that long.  I didn't think I cared for people very much as far as dealing with them all day long as part of work, but now I do realize I would like to be around people for at least part of my job.  I am thinking about doing some volunteer work at hospice or something just to give me some variety and feel like I am touching someone's life directly.

I love using my education to do this job though!  DH helped me pay off my student loans from college and I had been getting sick of hearing about the lousy return on investment.  I also love that I am getting paid to know the information I loved to learn.

I would love to hear more about that diet - sounds like something I need and might actually be able to do!
ditto and how

Not long ago, in  one of my nursing (psychiatric) journals, the editorial contained the phrase "to the manner born"....and I have seen it elsewhere.  Yikes!

Also my flesh crawls when I hear "orientated" but I see that has been incorporated as an alternative spelling per my Random House dictionary.

I find myself struggling not to correct grammar or syntax in conversation.  My daughter calls me a word-snot.

Which brings me to hyphens.  Do I have the correct understanding when I use a hyphen with, for, example, washed-up career, (i.e. the washed modifies career, foul ) but incorrectly when (and there seems to me to be an overuse of hyphens) if I write foul-smelling socks...because the foul modifies smelling per se?

And how about the frequent "I am anxious to attend the Rolling Stones concert" rather than the "I am eager to attend the Rolling......"

Thanks for your input.

Middle class is the working poor! and the poor people are just totally forgotten!
Ditto with me....sm
I tried NutriSystem years ago for their month trial, lost 10 pounds and then used it as a guideline for my own diet and lost another 20 llbs., as well as with walking.   Now ten years later, after gaining back many pounds due to inactivity and overindulging, I also was considering Jenny Craig but did not like some of the food (as well as cost) so used her program (as well as NutriSystems from years ago) as a guideline for my own diet and started going to the gym.....now down over 50 lbs.!!!   I try to stay at 1200 calories daily (low fat/low calorie food, still eat carbs--love 'em), but I think the BIGGEST help has been the gym.  I actually enjoy it now, even the treadmill (no walking for me....I actually jog)!!  When I first started going it was 5-6 times a week (1-2 hours cardio/weights) and followed my diet closely, but I have backed off now to 4 times a week and cheating on weekends only, and I am still losing weight but very slowly (I have essentially been at my goal for awhile, but a few more would be nice).  The first 3 days of my diet were the worst.....hungry, hungry, hungry, but I slowly adjusted and now have a eating/exercise lifestyle I can live with.....going on a year now.

We're seeing the handwriting on the wall ... this field is going the way of the dinosaur. I enjoy the medical field too but am burnt out - not the work, but the low pay and virtually no respect - and have considered going to school for surgical tech.
Ditto here

The average middle class American worker is always the one who gets screwed!   It irritates the he** out of me that our government already freely gives handouts to freeloaders who are too sorry to work , and don't even deserve to be called a citizen of this country, and on top of that, illegal aliens break our laws to come here - but they're not punished for breaking our laws - yet they expect "free" medical care, "free" government benefits, "free" government write-offs - for the most part at the expense of the middle class.  Very ironic that so many people come here for our way of life - we do more for them than their own country - yet many of them hate America and what it stands for, and would not hesitate to spit on us and our flag, and some of these idiots in politics just let them do it.   Personally I think it's a collaborative effort to bleed the coffers dry, but what do I know,  I'm just a working stiff.   When is somebody in Washington going to speak up for us?
