Was visiting a relative in the hospital...
back in the day when hospitals had job postings on big bulletin boards anyone could read. I was 19 and had no idea what a medical Transcriptionist was or did but by the description figured I might have a chance, so put in for that job and two others. (I was going to college part time at that point, had attended a business/trade co-op type high school (you went to school year round junior-senior years, working 2 weeks, schooling 2 weeks, and they had placed me at GM in labor relations as a secretary from age 16-18 - now THAT's where I should have stayed, in the offices at Delco/GM), but then again, that's all gone now, so who knows how that would have panned out).

Anyway, I got hired for a full-time second shift lab secretary/clerk position at the hospital instead of the transcriptionist job, learned a lot of useful info in the lab, also took transcription courses at the local community college part time. So the next time a medical transcriptionist job came up on that bulletin board, I got the job and stayed at the hospital a total of 18 years.

Hospital's gone, high school's gone, and like I said, Delco's gone, nothing but big grassy fields here in Ohio now. Nothing lasts, does it? But I count all those as good days and feel fortunate I got to experience all that.

If the home you're visiting has a wireless network, you can connect to that.

When you're there, let the computer search for the network and when it is recognized, connect to it. You will need to enter a passcode if it is a secured network (which it should be). You can save that confirguration to your laptop for future visits. It's really the same process as with a wireless router at home.

Now, if neither router is wireless, you can get a cable from places like Staples that will connect directly into your laptop and the back of the router. You will still need to set up the laptop as described above but, again, that configuration can be saved.

I live in a small town and we don't have Starbucks, Panera, etc., close by but the public library has a wireless network that I can connect to for free; you might want to check into that option as well.

The biggest thing you should be concerned with is that you are operating on a secure network and that information going across the network is at the very least encrypted according to HIPAA standards.

Which part of Maine and NH were you thinking of visiting??? The Maine coast is beautiful -sm

and the White Mountains in NH is also nice.  I would suggest driving the Kangamangus Highway in the White Mountains in NH.  Very nice drive and beautiful views of the White Mountains.  I believe the Old Man of the Mountain is along this route but part of him fell a while ago so not sure what he looks like now???!!!

MQ - I gotta tell ya
MQ is okay to work for..I have worked at many inhospital positions and transcription company positions and MQ is no worse than other companies I have worked for..
    Gotta see this
Go to TheFreshAirShop.com. This is not a scam.
DO WHAT YOU GOTTA DO!! RIGHT ON!

    Just gotta say...lol.
I live outside of Madison, so been there done that, lol
    Gotta be ham.
We have ham and lots of sides.
    you gotta be
    kidding! 90??
    I just gotta say...
sometimes saying "ain't" just feels good... sort of like letting off a good swear word (fiddlesticks just doesn't do the trick)... when I'm feeling rebelious saying I AIN'T gonna do something feels way more satisfying than saying I'm not going to
    gotta ask

Okay, this makes sense.  So what about people who live near the poles who have extended hours of darkness?  Will they rule Alaska at being high risk?  I knew a woman who had lived there in the service and she said she did her gardening at 2 AM because it wasn't dark.  They adjusted.

Personally, I work better at night and sleep better during the day.  I am sharp at night and can produce way more.  I can sleep deeply, restfully during the day but not at night.  I seem to be the opposite.  I've been this way since I was a kid.  Maybe I came out of the womb too late in the day!!!!

    gotta tell you this one

My neighbor retired from Magnavox forcefully when they left and went to Mexico.  He said there is a law that if a part is missing, they don't have to pay the import tax, so they purposefully ship their items with a knob missing!  It really ticked us off this happens.  It wasn't this administration that started this whole thing either..I won't get into a politics discussion because everyone's beliefs are their own, but just doing a little research will show it.

I also have an aunt whose husband retired from Ford and she said they got a letter if the company does go under, she will lose her little pension check and all her medical benefits.  I've seen these companies go under then suddenly appear again once they've stopped all former benefis, which is a crock IMO.  Seems like now it's back to the old way, everybody has to stay in the same house and everybody work just to get by. I don't know how minimum wage people make it.

This has gotta be a put-on, right?

One of us is just yanking everybody else's chain with this 'I am most wonderful and experienced MT but I don't speak it the language' lingo?  Come on, are we on Candid Computer?

War of the Worlds -- You gotta see it!!

I just saw it tonight....FABULOUS!!  I admit I was skeptical because on Rotten Tomatoes (the website I go to see critics' notes first) it was falling and there's been ups and downs about it...AND because as much as I have always loved Tom Cruise he has really gone off the deep end in my opinion.

However, the movie was fabulous.  I remember the old black and white movie too.  Tom played his part incredibly; as did the little girl (forget her name); and Tim Robbins, too.  Really was something.

    Go see it!

Sorry.....gotta say my husband, especially when I see
him throwing ball with my son or reading a book to our little girl.......then 10 minutes later when he's leaving his dirty clothes in the bathroom, I could just kill him.....LOL.
    You gotta hear this!

    gotta laugh
I was actually a triple-D which is an F before I had reduction surgery. So was my daughter who also had the surgery!
Gotta say I agree with above. I was in the same
position one time. I was in my late 20s, married about 10 years, and my husband showed VERY little interest in my. No "I love you," no kissing, very little sex. I started "talking" to an older man who told me he loved me, etc. Anyway, never went further than talking on the phone, but it's something I regret to this day, almost 20 years later. I feel like I was just as unfaithful as I had slept with this man.
    Gotta love that! - nm

    gotta agree with this one
    he is GORGEOUS !
One more thing you gotta do...
When you've caught your breath, spend a couple more bucks and send a certified letter to the oncologist in question and let him/her know what has happened - someone hired the billing company in question and this part of your pain and suffering was avoidable and after exhausting the usual efforts to clear things, inexcusable on their part. Good luck with the battle on both fronts.
    Sorry, gotta disagree with your
theory, but I can see  your point.   If you read the autopsy report, I can see how someone could stage this child being strangled and beaten to death and how the sexual assault could also be staged.   But, there were body fluids found on her that did not match the DNA  tests for everyone in the house (and contained no familial markers). So, if the DNA evidence was staged, it would make the situation premeditated which means that her parents would have needed motive to plan and carry out the brutal murder of one of their children in a very high profile way.   I hope some day we know the truth too.
you gotta step outside the box a little...sm

    twwa=the wound was

any rad mt's....gotta question for ya

ok i would like to know on average (of course) how many mammo's and chest x-rays do ya type a day?

so me typing about 30-40 mammos a day and lots and lots of chests...is this normal or what?????

Because I'm just being me, I gotta argue ya ;)

Nuthin' personal... I'm only going on what AAMT BOS tells me to do, because I'm a tool.  Page 209 of 2005 AAMT BOS, 2-cm mass, 4-cm lesion, 4-1/4-inch scar, .38-caliber pistol, et cetera.

LMT--I gotta thank you for that question!

I've had this background "static" coming through my earbuds for years now, but just thought it was the quality of the .wav files.  When you said your speakers were to blame, (which is where my earbuds are directly plugged into), I plugged them directly into the computer and WOW!  That horrible buzzing/static is 100% GONE!

So, thanks for sharing your misery because I would have NEVER thought to blame my crappy speakers!

    Gotta agree
at least so far. It definitely takes me longer to edit than it does to type- I assume the drafts will get better over time but I haven't seen much of that yet.
Yep, that is labor also and you gotta know
I am dumb when it comes to computers and such. I would hate to really mess something up to where I could not work. I might have to have some memory removed in order to go to 1.5 but my computer will go to 2. Wonder if I should go for that much? thanks for the advice.
    gotta use headphones
I would love to just use my speakers (Harman/Kardon, came with PC but work well) but hubby does nightshift so he sleeps during the day.  I used to have a pair of Sony earbuds that worked wonderfully (dogs ate 'em, goodbye $50) but now I use a regular stereo headphone.  The sound quality with the earbuds was better but the headphones are more comfortable.  The inside of my ears would start to get sore with the earbuds after a few hours.
    gotta luv it, hehehehehe NM

    Gotta have Dr. Pepper
The phone, cell phone, TV remote, lots of post-it notes, the blinds up on the window for sunshine (if I'm lucky). The standards already mentioned, Kleenexe's, q-tips, fan, lotion.

Things that I have to have but not by choice........the dogs at my feet (hopefully not on the pedal), the cat roaming around annoying the dogs, and last but not least, hubby in the next room snoring away! (thank heavens for noise cancelling headphones!)
EXACTLY! Ya gotta do your time sm
in this business to get anywhere. ESLs, crummy specialties and all the rest go with the job. You can't pick and choose you have to be determined to learn it all. Then you don't have a hard time getting and keeping a good job and the ESLs won't freak you out!
No time right now, gotta go....sm
I'll have to get back to this thread later....maybe....see ya. :D
You know, just gotta have something to gripe about
Having those reports pulled then DOES NOT MEAN we do not get feedback on certain reports OTHER than those times. I am really sorry to see others on this board who are so unhappy, hate their jobs, and otherwise just in such self-pity. If people unable to do VR at a rate to where they cannot make more than minimum wage, then past time for a new job.
ya gotta know what Pimp My Ride is

If you have teens, young adults (especially boys) and be able to carry on a conversation with them on a subject they like.  The kids hanging around here are always talking about it.  So, I actually watched the show one day and it's wild what they can do to a regular car

Gotta laugh to keep from crying!

There ya go...sometimes ya just gotta laugh at this stuff :) nm
    .
    Wallpaper, gotta vent.
We just moved into our newly bought house last month and thankfully there was only 1 room with wallpaper in it, a bathroom.  This stuff was put up 19 years ago when the house was built, so it was put in BEFORE the medicines chest, toilet, lights, etc.  Why is somebody else's wallpaper always so gawd-awful?  It's never anything you can live with.  So there I stand night after night ripping and pulling and spraying with DIF trying to get this mess down.  Then, to top it all off, it's leaving a rubber glue residue on the wall that isn't even noticeable until you roll your paint over top of it.  Then it starts curling up.  WHY DO PEOPLE WALLPAPER BATHROOMS?  It will be so nice when I'm done, redoing the bathroom in a lighthouse theme, but I may lose my marbles before I get it done.
Absolutely no problem. Took a day or 2. All you gotta do is

    Try it out.

If you're really good at transcribing, it shouldn't be a problem to adapt.

No need for the waste of the space. Think of the paper it saves. Save a space, save a tree. :) Check out a new paperback and see how many have 2 spaces.

Gotta love em, or want to strangle them

I transcribed a dictation earlier with the word salpingo-oophorectomy in it.  Now, this is not a new word for me, I have transcribed it many times.  The funny part is that later in the document the dictator said the word "chunks"...and then spelled it out!!!!  All I could do was laugh.  It just makes you wonder about their thought processes sometimes.

Yup, me too - 25 yrs experience - Gotta love it! $$$$$

    gotta burn my prairie...
we have about an acre total of reconstructed prairie. It needs to be burned every year to wipe out invasive plants and create the best growing conditions. What huge flames we get when a little bit of wind picks up. Looks like this weekend will be good for that job.
    just gotta love taylor!
I will watch this over and over--putting it on my favorites!
    You've GOTTA be kidding.....
Gastric bypass is an elective surgery. Any surgeon foolish enough to perform it, with the knowledge that the patient was not NPO prior to, is setting themself up for a major (no chance of winning) law suit. Moreover, any patient that would not adhere to the NPO stipulation prior to the surgery should not have passed the required psychological testing given as part of the pre-surgical work-up.
