moving auto correct

Does anyone know how to move the auto correct entries that you have on one computer and putting them on another computer also.  I have my home computer that I have my side Doc that I do and I will be working for a hospital and want to also have them on this computer.  I tried some directions that I got off microsoft.com with just putting a floppy in clicking files/folders, local hard drive and put in file name to search- normal. dot but nothing came up.  Is there another way, as I would hate to type these all over again?

Are you sure you're using Auto Text and not Auto Correct?
Auto Text accompanies the template, as I stated before. The Auto Correct entries are in a separate file with the .acl extension.
Transferring Auto Correct/Auto Text

I work in Word currently and have a large number of AC/AT entries.  I am moving to a platform that has Instant Text or Shorthand.  Is it possible to transfer these entries as a file somehow, or am I going to have to enter by hand?  Also any comments welcome regarding the ease of use, etc of Instant Text versus Shorthand.

either way is correct. They are moving away from the hyphen but it is not incorrect.

You could add it to your auto correct
uuu for date spelled out.
put it in your auto correct if your (sm)
program allows; the way you spell it incorrectly to the left and to the right the correct spelling and when you type it its corrected for you. Have done that several of my words I have the same problem with.
Why don't you just use Auto Correct
in Word? it's very similar to PRD and you can assign it to open on an F-key...
How do you add in auto correct?

2007 is really different than 2003.  I can't seem to find how I do this.  Thanks.

I lost my auto correct. It asked me if I wanted to replace my normal template and like a dummy, I hit yes. Now, I do not have any of my doctor normals, but it has the shorter auto corrections for the patient, however, aspirin, etc., but not any of the longer ones that I use for doctor's normals. Does anyone know how to restore this?
Auto Correct question

I have a question.  Is there a way to print the entries in auto correct??  Also, is there a way to save all my entries in auto correct and auto text to a CD???  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes there is a way to print your auto correct
There is a free download for a macro program that backs up your auto correct file. You can print it..save it..and restore your autocorrect file with it. I love it. I have 3 computers and I use this to keep all of them up to date with my auto correct entries.

In Word, there are two files that you must backup for AutoCorrect ~ Normal and acl file.    I need to know what the file name is for the 'acl' file..

Auto Correct in Word

I use auto correct in Word to make my macros.  Is there any way to save this info in the event that my computer were to crash.  This has happened before and I've had to enter all of my macros again on a new computer (quite a hassle).  I appreciate any info.

auto correct vs. shorthand

If you are using Word use auto-correct to

get you started. - make tp the patient, etc. 


Start with just a few additions - the ones that you use most often.  Add 5 or 10 a week.  Make you a sticky note and stick on the monitor if you need help remembering.  Use those 5 to 10 for a week and then add a few more the next week. 


As someone else stated I would get an expander.  Auto correct does the same thing as an Expander but has limited space, so if you utilize a lot of auto-corrects/expansions you'll run out of room and have to switch over to an expander anyway. 


auto correct capitalizing after cm

I'm typing in WORD and copy/pasting into Meditech; however, it is not capitalizing the first letter if it comes after cm. or mm.  I have everything checked in options and it works the rest of the time.  Any suggestions on this, or anything else re: typing this way for Meditech (radiology).

Help with ExText auto correct

I just started using ExText's autocorrect in addition to my ESP and if I'm careful they're not incompatible.  I don't think that is the problem. 


The problem is that somewhere in AutoCorrect several words have been entered to have a period after an abbreviation, like if I type "recs" for recommendations, what it gives me is "recs."  The "recs" for recommendations is in my ESP.  I want to find the "recs." and get rid of it but I canot find it in the AutoCorrect to delete it.  There are a few others like that (I type "croww" for CROW walker, but it gives me "crow."  So now I've had to change my abbreviation to crowwk.  See what I mean?  I just hate to have to make up new abbreviations and remind myself to use them if I could just delete the ones that are embedded in there.  Can anybody help?

auto correct and format

I have 2003 on one computer and 2007 on the other, but it could not be much different, okay, go into your auto format or correction, in spelling and grammar, go to options, , advanced, there should be a auto correct button in there, that will take you to what you need to change.  What happened is when you clicked yes, it unchecked something that was checked when you were working with it before, just go down the list and look for what you need. 


I really and truly hope this helps, if not, go to the Microsoft website, there should be a help option on your header, then just type in what you are needing help with and it should guide you through it.


Backing up Auto Correct
Can someone tell me how to back up AutoCorrect in Word? I just purchased a flash drive and would like to put my entries on it. Thanks in advance!

The file name for mine is MSO1033.acl. Just do a file search on your computer for *.acl and save it to disk or flash drive.
as far as I know, main problem with auto-correct
than Shortcuts/Shorthand, for example.  So would depend on your number of expansions and how many more you're planning to put in, I would say.  I don't know what the maximum limits are, but you can probably find that info on Google or here:
expanders vs MS Word Auto Correct

Hello everyone ....  I've been using MS Word's auto correct feature as my expander.  Is it 'just as good' as using an Expander ?   Of course my line count is lousy per hour - but I don't do the same account regularly, and I don't get many ops (standard formats).  


Please tell me if / why I should change to an expander - and which one works best.  Remember PRD for DOS - I loved it.  Is there a Windows version?

Auto correct in Word and a TON of macros....

Yes, tools and then auto correct options.
There are lots of tabs in there for different automatic options - you can undo them by removing the check marks. Just go thru all the different options you don't want and click on the box to remove the check marks. If you remove all check marks on most auto options, it allows you to basically straight type! merge shortcut into auto correct?

Does anyone know how to merge the word list that I have for Shortcut for Windows into my Autocorrect for Word?  I had it done before, but somehow it got reset or something, so the entries are no longer there.  Any help will be greatly appreciated!  Thanks

  1. Click the Microsoft Office ButtonButton, and then click Word Options.
  2. In the Word Options dialog box, click Proofing, and then click AutoCorrect Options.

I built my own using the auto-correct function in Word. (sm)
I removed most of the words that came with auto-correct, and replaced them with my own short macros, which consist of words, phrases, & short sentences. Little or no memorizing involved, because I made them up as I went along whenever I kept getting the same things over and over again, and got tired of typing them. For longer macros I just put them in a document file that I can copy and paste. Simple. And CHEAP!
Open Word, click on Auto Correct, then..
click on the words you do not want and click Delete.

Yeah, just like ABCZ which I used in auto correct and SmartType, I think.
Bottom line, they increase production, TAT, quality and salary. My company provides us with 2 different ones because they are like a raise in wages. And companies have less employes and taxes, everyone is happy.'

If you are careful with putting the correct report in the correct report shell and patient, you will
not have any problems. I only take away this option when someone is careless. There can be NO room for error on this. One mistake can be very serious. Many do it well though, so just double check and you will be fine.

Moving to AZ...sm

I tried posting this on the state boards but there is no activity there, so I am posting here.


Thinking about moving to Arizona next year.  Somewhere around the Goodyear, Surprise, Litchfield Park area.  Love Estrella Ranch but it is just a tad too pricey for what we want to spend.  Anybody from Arizona care to share if there are other communities similar to Estrella Ranch?  Where are the best schools for high school and middle school?  good, bad and ugly would be great.

Considering moving on from MT to QA at MQ and

am wondering how that works.  If you're in QA, do you ONLY do QA work?  Or do you also do transcription?

I ask because when I receive updates from my office, and it shows which MTs and which QA's are currently working, sometimes there are NO REPORTS in QA, and it makes me wonder if those folks just sit there until something comes along, or do they do something else in the meantime?

No one to ask this evening so thought I'd ask here.  Thanks!

Moving up sm
I know that most places, this is the luck of the draw to find a management position. I have experience doing it and I can't get a job to be able to do it again, and honestly I don't know that I would want to at this point. I was a wonderful manager, as far as my MTs were concerned, but it is not my forte' in this business and I didn't particularly enjoy it. I found it pretty thankless all the way around, from the QA to trying to motivate a good MT to work more and try to teach a poor MT how to do a better job, assigning work, taking STAT reports in the middle of the night which I was not supposed to type myself, but usually did because I am not going to call someone at 3 a.m.!!! Yuck.

As far as MTing goes, I am a better than average MT and I know what I am doing. I can get in, get it done and get out to take care of my life. It doesn't have to encroach on my free time. I didn't find this true when I was manager, there was no free time. I make substantially better money with about one-third of the hours.

Also, in order to get in on one of these management positions, I think you need to distinguish yourself as an outstanding MT. Now, if you do that, they will notice you, but they will not promote you because you are now too valuable as an MT. This is the situation I was recently in in. My last job I was told I would *never* be considered for QA or management because of my MT skills. I was consistently in the top 3 production wise, my QA numbers were well below 5% and my accuracy on audits was over 99%. I was just too good for it. You are darned if you and darned if you don't.

Then again, my goal was never to manage, it was to be an excellent MT. I think as it is your goal, you should go for it. You might consider taking some management courses at a local community college so you can put that on your resume too. If you have anything that could be considered management experience, make the most of it. Be valuable to your company, but not too valuable! LOL

It is HIS house, I do the moving

He owns this house. It is too expensive for me to live here. It is an older home, needs work, expensive to heat. I work 5 pm to 2am. So evenings and nights. He puts kids to bed. I and kids wake up at 9am. Kids go to bed at 10pm.


And, there is nothing...I say N O T H I N G to rent in my daughter's school district (I've already moved her twice) and I am staying in this district til she graduates or if I am settled, for the duration of little kids' schooling.


Nope, don't have any interest in being Radiology Director of a 300+ bed hospital. Sorry.

When my monitor is not positioned correctly, I get terrible neck aches and headaches. Sometimes just a half inch really makes a difference. Or even move your keyboard up or down. When I worked at the hospital, maintenance had to move my whole desk up onto 2 x 4's to give me that little bit of extra I needed and then I was comfortable. They had a desk made for kids that I had to sit at. It was really cramped.

MOVING TO TEXAS

Stay away from the D/FW area and Houston - too much traffic and illegals.  Drugs, gangs, etc.  Try to find a small town or country setting.  It is HOT and the concrete of the cities just increases that heat.  Also the pollution in these areas is bad so if you have any type of lung or breathing problems - stay away.  However, if you do not mind sitting in traffic for an hour to get to a job 10 miles away - then you should move to a big city.  If you are planning to work from home, remember that internet is not available everywhere in Texas.  Personally, I wouldn't move to Texas - I would choose SC or FL - much better options.

moving to Sacramento......
I am in Loomis, about 20-30 minutes away. It is hotter than heck here in the summer and they last till, well we have the last of it now. This year was the WORST in my opinion, and I have been in the area for 25 years. I have never had a problem finding work, I check the various MT boards and Craigslist also yes occasionally Sutter does hire, but not so much MTs in this area - more in the Bay Area. Most of the Sutter Hospitals in the Sac area outsource their transcription. I worked there for 7 years in transcription, and another 4 years in other departments. Not so sure you want to work at a Kaiser Hospital, they aren't so nice. Good luck to you! Really this is such a great location for CA, you are close to mountains, ocean, etc. I think you are really going to like it!
Moving jobs
Same here - I have had 3 jobs in the past 2 years, as well -with 2 being lost to account loss. I work as an IC - so it just goes on my resume as IC with the specialties I have worked. I am doing mostly editing now and do not know if this is a good fit, either, and may be changing again very soon.
I'm going to try moving my laptop around...sm...
to different areas of the house or on the deck or somewhere to see if that helps.  Haven't tried it yet but will soon.  I'm almost finished getting laptop set up.

Moving into management

Some places will promote their lead Transcriptionist into management, but that's often a mistake.  Having excellent transcription skills is not the same thing as having mentoring, motivating, planning, budgeting and interpersonal skills in a transcription environment. 


You've had a boss who thought you had potential in these areas.  Do you feel you would enjoy doing those things or would you feel the call of the keyboard?  Would you dislike delegating?  Would you dislike training because it's just faster and easier to do it yourself?  Do you like dealing with people, or do you prefer to deal with data and to be left alone to do your thing?  These are some of the questions to consider because the jobs really are different.


If you are truly tired of the rat race that is production typing and think you really might be interested in management, then check your local junior college or business school for classes on management/supervision.  They might be credit classes or they may be career/life enrichment classes.  They shouldn't be all that expensive, and they should give you a better idea about whether this is the path you want to take.  Employers sometimes look for the RHIT or CMT credential for management personnel.  If you aren't one of those, then proof of study in the management field may be of help to you.


I find that I generally like to read/discuss management techniques more than I like doing them, but it's getting harder and harder to do the production thing.  Maybe I'm ready to try management again.  I think I've learned not to make the same mistakes I made before.  It's thinking about making the new ones that's holding me back!  Best of luck in whichever path you take.
