I agree with you, holidays are for family or very close friends. I don't want to spend holidays making conversation with people I will never see again (unless I was helping at a disaster, or a special dinner).

Maybe your sister does this so she won't have to spend time with just the family. Could it be that having just the family, without Mom and Dad there, makes her miss the "old days" when the family was altogether?

I wouldn't go if I were you, since you don't enjoy it. It is a holiday - you're supposed to do what you enjoy.
