cardio help
Could be, i'll go back and listen...thanks!!
Stedman's Cardio book says 1/6
or 2/6, etc., page 219
Do a mix of cardio and muscle strengthening but note
there is NO such thing as toning your muscles! Tone is the resistance and tension your muscles have that you cannot control.

You either use the muscle you have or you create new muscle. The ONLY way to change your muscle mass is to create new muscle, which means tearing the fibers of your current muscle and growing new muscle fiber. To increase muscle mass you need to PUSH the limits of your current muscle mass. Creating more muscle mass increases your capacity to burn fuel/make energy (burn fat/increase metabolism). Also, this is measured in ounces, not pounds. Also, women in comparison to men have far less ease in increasing muscle mass unless hormones or steroids are involved. Really, ounces people. One more point, muscle fiber is muscle fiber. It doesn't turn into fat and fat doesn't turn into muscle. You create or lose muscle mass, you store or shed fat cells.

I could go on and on and on....so many myths out there about this kind of stuff. IMO, optimum exercise is a combo of cardio and weights. No pain no gain has some truth in it. If you don't push your body, and you only need to push it a little, you aren't doing much but using the muscle you already have and using the energy (burning the calories) you've taken in for the day and not the calories you've stored as fat.
P.S. - I'm alot stronger cardio-wise also

depressing
Thank you for the info.  I guess I'll just have to make a few more shortcuts and see how that pans out.  I do have an Expander -- one -- that holds my "gazillion" shortcuts already but it is provided by the hospital I work for and is the only one that has to be used for ALL accounts.  Thanks for your insight.
depressing changes in MT
wow. if what you say is so (about the AAMT, that is), reminds me of the so-called "nurses' associations." they spew about being "advocates for nurses," and at the same time, endorse every bit of legislative evil you can imagine to undermine our practice and...well, let's just put it this way: there's no shortage of nurses; they're just not at the bed-side--they're fed up with the codswallop. just wish nurses would get as much "stuffs" as you all evidently have!
Its depressing!
I have an oncology acct,  I think its so sad
Depressing pay
What bums me out is reading all of the posts of people claiming up to 100,000/yr doing medical transcription. I just cannot fathom how that is possible, but then again, I am an employee with accounts that change frequently and the beginnings of CTS. Good for all you that are able to really profit from this line of work. I cannot wait to move to an area where I can utilize my education.
Depressing reports
Anyone ever get depressed after typing certain reports? I sometimes find that abuse reports on kids will bring me down and I have to get up and do something else for a little while. Does anyone else have this problem sometimes?
depressing reports
Thank you so much. I thought I was the only only one who sat and cried at the keyboard!
Wish I had not looked. Too depressing. nm

This is depressing, especially about Spheris. nm

Happy yet depressing, too!
Man, sometimes life just stinks! My current job has not had much work for me lately, so I've been testing around to see if I can scare up more work. I've been really down on myself, it seems like no one hires newbies. I've got just 10 months part-time experience, some clinic, some acute care.

I just got results back from the first company I tested with. I just scored a 98.8%! YAY!! The company doesn't have any openings right now though. I've never been so happy to NOT get work in my whole life. ACCCKKK!!

How do y'all handle this emotional rollercoaster?
Truly Depressing!!! Frustrating!!!
I know I have posted before....thanks to all those that have given me leads.....but I am so depressed....have applied at too numerous-to-count companies....and STILL no MT job!!!!! Have some medical background besides my MT diploma, yet cannot get anywhere!!!! Even bought a foot pedal.....how is one supposed to get experience if no one will mentor them....and I have applied to all mentoring openings.....but no responses!!!! I JUST WANT TO CRY!!!! Seriously thinkiing that this was a big mistake.....wanted to further my career....but this hasn't helped!!!!  And unfortunately, I cannot afford to take another MT course......sorry to post again....I just needed to vent.....so miserable!!!!    Sneaser
Depressing News
I lost my hospital job back in September. I don't know what state you live in, but I'm an MT and here in Michigan I was able to get unemployment benefits. I would suggest you apply; the least they can do is say no. Incidentally, I was out of work for nearly eight weeks and last week started working for a company in New England. I've found them to be very friendly and helpful and the pay is pretty good. Good luck in your search. I know it can be discouraging but please don't give up.
This is severely sad and depressing. sm
Sounds like I retired just in time, before our profession started going totally down the tubes. Actually, I believe it already was on its way down really more than three years ago. We all worked so long and hard to build ourselves up to professional standing and recognition--not to mention decent pay because we're worth it--only to end up as factory girls again. I hate that.
3-1/2 years experience, type cardio only on clinic account, and make 9 cpl nm

Seriously? Must be a big secret. I find it very depressing and
very difficult.  New terms constantly and staging, etc., are written differently
Depressing news today
Well.  My hospital job was outsourced in August and I also had a PT job to help pay bills too.  Today I found out that I will no longer have that PT job as that I was working PT for has decided to put all MTs in one pool to work at all of their hospitals they own, so the Outsource Co I have worked for four years has lost that contract basically.  Another financial loss.  I was making bringing home about $2300 a month and now I am down to about $900 a month or less.    What a blow.  Jobs are so scarce now and I just cannot go to Walmart to get a job because I had major back surgery years ago and I just cannot stand lor long periods of time.  I do not know if I would even qualify for unemployment benefits which is so little but it would pay credit cards maybe.   I have not heard really of MTs qualifying for unemployment and I am not so sure about this either.  I am going to check into it, but I doubt.    My MT friend where we used to work had to borrow $30 yesterday to buy a couple of groceries.  She bought food to make chilli and Hamburber Helper to last for days.  I hope things turn around, but at this point I am not so sure.  So depressing and I am tired of taking typing tests.  I have been an MT for 29 years and score really high on tests, but then a person never hears back from those companies.  Just how depressing is that and I know that a lot of us have been there, done that.   Have resumes in everywhere I can think.  Lets all hope and pray hard for things to turn around in this next year.
Depressing News followup

My PT job was at a hospital that used Meditech so I do have that training on that software, but I have worked via the Internet for years with a couple of diff hospitals so thank God I did have that experience in other software programs and knowledge of Internet.

Meditech is not a MT friendly  program either but I did make good money so now I am going to have to find another PT job to help the gap.  I sure am going to miss that account.   I have been so lost since I lost my hourly paying hospital job and going back to working by the line for my total paycheck and I hate it.  I really have thought about going back to school at age 58 and doing medical billing maybe.  Hope it improves for all but I really do not think it will for a long long time.

ophthalmology
I absolutely love it.  Wish I could do it all day long.  There's a learning curve for the terms, just like everything else. I use Dictionary of Eye Terminology published by Triad, and I find everything I need in there.
Vet. Ophthalmology
There is a very nice lady named Ann/Anne who occasionally posts veterinary ophthalmology jobs right here on mtstars.com, so keep your eyes open for her post.  Just FYI.
If you do ophthalmology what are some

good resources for sample reports?  I have done phacos by the thousands, but now working on a teaching hospital and they do tons of eye surgeries.  The facility is severely backlogged and just said don't worry about blanks get us caught up and they have not provided any samples, any corrections.  I have Stedman's, but a lot of the doctors dictate so fast or don't enunciate.  I can't look something up if I can't hear them and I'm not familiar enough with the terminology to know what it might/should/could be.

I have to leave blanks and I don't feel like I'm learning anything when I'm not getting any feedback and just continue to leave the same blanks.

Any help would be appreciated.

Vet ophthalmology
I currently work for this company, and I can tell you that it is the best MT experience that I have ever had. The 0.07/line is only for a short time. I can tell you with 100% certainty that the test given is NOT work that needs to be typed. That is the most rediculous thing I have ever heard. When it comes to the test, I think there are a few people out there who just couldn't cut it, so they have to make up lame excuses to make themselves feel better. As for the owner, I have never known of anyone to be more selfless or work harder since I have been in this field. There is a lot to learn in the beginning, but that is the case with any MT job. Remember, there are a lot of people that get into MT because they are lazy and think staying home doing as little as possible is a great fit for them. If you are not one of those people, I can assure you that this is a great company to work for!
Ophthalmology - without a doubt!
I have always had a really hard time with ophthalmology - probably because I get it so rarely.
Ophthalmology transcriptionists out there?

Any other MTs doing ophthalmology?  I'm working for docs who are on the east coast.  I get so FRUSTRATED because the reports are so short I feel like I'm starting and stopping all the time.  I've done 33 files today for a whopping 600-ish lines!  Great docs, easy to understand, mainly letters to the PCPs.  Most of my files are easily less than 3 minutes long and when I do get a long one, he can't make up his mind so I end up erasing and retyping, and STILL don't get a decent line count.

Just looking for a sympathetic ear from another Ophth MT.  I feel like I'm in a different world than these other guys I read about on here!

ophthalmology words
The Dictionary of Eye Terminology by Melvin Rubin, M. D. is a good book.
You can also try www.AAO.com.  (American Academy of Ophthalmology). I don't remember if you have to a member to get in.  Also just type in ophthalmology words in Google and see what comes up.  Sometimes you can find these books at a thrift store or goodwill.
sorry I don't do eyes but it's ophthalmology...

Ophthalmology book
I started with ophthalmology 4 years ago and the only book I use is the Dictionary of Eye Terminology by Barbara Cassin. Great book - -
Very few are good with ophthalmology..
I imagine they are not able to get anyone with enough knowledge.

I type for cardio docs. EVERY patient has been a smoker or continues to smoke. Hope you'll quit

Very tricky - ophthalmology! But with a good
word book, and lots of practice, I've heard its really a nice specialty to transcribe!
Endocrine and Ophthalmology References

What are the best endocrinology & ophthalmology reference resources?  Websites, books, etc.

I'm having these added to my work pool of nephrology, gen/vasc surgery, & IM. Thanks for the help.

I hate ophthalmology - very slow moving...nm

Please share helpful ophthalmology websites.
Ophthalmology is definitely my weakest specialty. If anyone knows of helpful websites, please share them.

Thanks
I use dragon and I type ortho and ophthalmology.
It works much better for ortho.
What is the deal with this veterinary ophthalmology IC job offer. I see that one a lot. Is this al
Has anybody here worked there before?
If it rains hard, the wind blows hard and there are trees
nearby, it snows heavily it will mess up the signal.  The speed is not constant, sometimes as slow as dial-up, but at least still connected.  Many companies will not allow satellite.
Not a site, but Stedman's Ophthalmology Words is a keeper! :) nm

So, you think it is okay for hard-working MTs to earn 7-8 cpl for their hard work?? nm

I believe Pilates is good for shaping and strength, but you still need some cardio for good fat

Maybe psych is just not her cup of tea! Maybe she should

try another speciality.   I think everyone has potential somewhere, somehow.  She just needs to find her "speciality" if you will.

Unless, she has been on other specialities and her QA score is still that low, then maybe she needs to find another career!

You have a tough job having to QA that - bless you!

Psych MT's
Are any of you Psychiatry only MTs - if so, who do you work for-are they hiring?
Help please with psych (sm)
Switching from WP to "Word," need quick answer on how to avoid automatic numbering as will be using Psych Dx with Axis I, Axis II, etc., how do I do this without numbers "popping up" all over the place? Also, is there a word list or med list for psychiatric only? I am testing for a new acct. in the morning and petrified. I am experienced in the field but don't want to appear like a dunce on my testing due to lack of knowledge of "Word". Don't know which version they are using either. Please answer on board or by e-mail and I shall be forever greatful. Praying.
psych...really,..never done that before.

I've never met my dad, so I do not have a true model for measuring men against.  They totally confuse me.  I'm very independent and plan on pursuing my own goals.  I think coming across a great man would just be a bonus and not a necessity.  My most prominent relationship lasted almost a decade, and I remember him being really kind of cold and absent, and I was constantly vying for his attention.  If I come across a truly loving nurturing guy, it scares me and I push away alot.  I guess having a dad would have made me different, but I am what I am so its all I know.
