I'm glad you understood what I was trying to say :)

I'm with you in that if they ever create something more conducive to production, I'm there! I fought tooth and nail moving to Windows and Word 2003 about a year and half ago so I could go digital and have a format my clients could work with. I worked with DOS Word Perfect 5.1 through 6.1 for about 20 years and loved that program but it is nice to be in Windows so I can use CD dictionaries.

I don't have much to offer about comparisons of the Word programs as I've only used 97 a little bit and 2003 for about a year and a half. 2003 seems to work better for me than 97, though when I used 97 I was on such a dinosaur computer that could have been why I had problems.

I note in your message you are wanting to use Instant Text so you can type 5mg and have it convert to 5 mg. Just a heads up. In Instant Text you can't start an Expander with a number but you could type, for instance, mg5. I have a hard time thinking backwards so ShortHand works better for me as I do a lot of number typing/expanding. You might try the Shorthand trial version and see if you like it. You can always trial IT but you have to purchase it first and uninstall before sending it back.

Since no one else has responded to your original query, my best advice on chosing a Word version would be to get one that matches your operating system. Word 2003 is pretty stable for me and is tried and true. (I'm always leary about new versions and how they will work with my other programs.) I, too, use Stedman's spellcheck with Word 2003 and it does a good job.

hth, and good luck in your venture with your new Word version!
