well I used to think the same way you did...

and I came here and saw people talking about the MT industry going to crap, and then I started doing more research and learned how many hospitals/doc's offices are going to VR and outsourcing jobs (this happened to me 5 years ago, my work was sent to India because that is where the lead doc was from)... well anyways, it is great that you have all that work, and I used to feel the same way, until I told my doc's office (who i have worked for for seven years without raising my rates) that I was going to raise my rates, and they basically said they had someone that would do it for 2 cents less than me... yea well that was a slap in the face. Also, the hospital I work for has been thinking of doing Voice response for awhile now. Those are my only two jobs and guess what, neither of them are going to last me much longer. Maybe that's why I feel the way I do.
and I have a hard time thinking I'm going to work for 7 or 8 cents a line. I'm worth way more than that, I'm not new to this profession, I'm great at what I do, and the bottom line is is at least with big companies, I don't think that reimbursement is there. I can't live off 8 cents a line. I can't afford it, bottom line, even if I worked 10 hours a day (and i type fast). I guess that's gonna lead to foreclosure and all kinds of other awful things that I only blame on the MT industry!! Just kidding. But I just mean, the rate of inflation on the west coast is tremendous from seven years ago, and im still supposed to be working for the same amount? that's crazy. Their emplpoyees aren't treated that way.
Why am I not allowed to demand or expect more??
