Allied/ Soon-to-be new graduate question

Has anyone had any experience with Allied?  I am completing my training through them and although they have been very helpful, I have regretted my decision to go to school there (after reading numerous message boards, they simply are not the best school but it’s too late now!)  Anyhow, I am looking for anyone who is currently going though OR graduated from Allied's MT program.  I would love some helpful suggestions on how to get a job after graduation (the famous question!)  Allied suggested that I pay 900 bucks to be placed in their "lifetime career assistance program" which assists you with your resume and helps you find a job.  Does anyone think it's worth the $$$?  Has anyone graduated from Allied and found a job?  If so, please respond!!  ANY SUGESTIONS from MT's would be greatly appreciated-I feel like I'm in the dark and don't want to make another bad decision!!!  Thanks a bunch!

Allied

I am halfway through my courses with Allied and feel like I'm learning a lot.  I hope you find a job fast.  :)

Allied
I am halfway through my classes with Allied and have been happy with them so far.  Before signing up, I called many times with questions and everyone was very helpful.  Once I paid, I had all my materials within a week and they even called to make sure I got them and everything was there.  They have called a few times since to see if I had any questions and how I was liking the class.  They called a couple of weeks ago to congratulate me on passing my terminology class and wished me luck on the transcription course.  If you want to email me privately, I can give you the name of the person that I deal with.  He's been very helpful to me.
Allied
Thank you so much for the response. I am just so frustrated and can't wait to get a job. It is great to hear someone else went through Allied and did find employment. Thank again.
Allied
I am currently enrolled with Allied Schools in California. I know that there is more than 1 location for Allied. Will employers hire you even though you haven't completed the course work?
Allied
I graduated last March from Allied (Laguna Hills, CA) and paid the 900.00 for their "career assistance". I am STILL unemployed and quite frustrated. They are great at keeping me posted and send plenty of links for assessment tests, but all of the links they send me clearly state that you need 2 years of experience to even be considered for employment. I was recently told that they had a partnership with a transcription company that had agreed to hire new graduates. I was so excited and faxed all of the necessary paperwork only to be told that the response was "overwhelming" and now the company has decided to put together a recruiting team to design assessment tests that the graduates will have to pass. I have asked repeatedly for a position as an intern and will work for little to no pay as long as there is a job waiting for me at the end of my internship. I still am waiting for word on an intern program although I was assured 4 months ago that such programs would be available to me if I was interested. My advice is hold onto your 900.00. As for the training, you're right, it's too late. I wish I had paid a little more money to a school that had mentoring or intern programs available to their graduates. Hindsight is always better! Good Luck and please let me know if you find anything.
How do you know about Allied? Did you go there?

Allied
Sorry if this is a repeat post--I am actually almost done with Allied's MT program.  the only complaint I have about them is the VERY LONG turnaround time in the grading of the transcription assignments.  I am already a RN, so it isn't so difficult for me; I am already familiar with the terminology.  They are very attentive, they check on me often, and they produced a fantastic resume for me.  I also have a lifetime of job placement services if needed.  So for me, it's worth it.  It is just taking longer than I had originally anticipated.
I went to Allied
I graduated from them over two years ago and had a job within a month.  My MTSO has told me many times that he is so glad that he took a chance on hiring a newbie because I am one of his best transcriptionists, and he just hired another newbie.  You get out of any course what you put into it.  Allied is fine, you just have to put the time into it.
Allied
I went to Allied too, I am really unhappy, I paid the extra $1000 for the job assistance and well, I could really use that $1000 since I have no job yet. I test all the time and the only company that wanted me so far is a scam operation and I ended up loosing a lot of money. They say they provide jobs for life. Well I'm still alive and waiting. Good luck to you.
ALLIED
Okay, so I am about 85% done with the Allied Business School Medical transcription course.  I have done very well and gotten pretty much 90% to 100% up until this point, whereas now, as it is getting increasingly difficult am struggling through getting 80% to 90% when I'm lucky.  But here's my question to you all.  I have been reading through the posts here on Allied and needless to say, it has NOT been encouraging.  I realize that with any message board there is a lot of negativitiy if you are searching for it.  I have learned a lot.  I quit work almost 2 years ago to be at home and concentrate on the studying.  We are in desperate need of my income in our family and I am beginning to worry that I made the wronog choice in choosing Allied.  They told me that there was job placement with benefits upon graduation.  Now, I read here and see that I may have been misinformed.  So, what would you do if you were me?  I in now way would quit at this point after investing over $3000.  But, should I search for further study or just hope that I can find work and if not, try Walmart?  I plan on really going all out, but we can't afford an additional 2-year-long search for employment after taking 2 years off for study!
I like Allied
I feel like I am learning alot and they are always quick to help and/or assist. I am annoyed with the long waiting times for grades.
I also took the MT course from Allied
Are you talking about the Allied located in California? If so, I just graduated from there in December. The MT course can be difficult. The more you do, the easier it gets. If you ever have any questions, please e-mail me. I will try to help. My e-mail is gaburick@hotmail.com.
Allied
I really feel mislead by Allied as they gave me the impression that they would place me in a job when I had graduated. So far they have not done anything to help other than make a resume
Yes, I graduated from Allied
I graduated on Aug. 3, 2006, and it only took me a week to find a job. I just found a list of MT companies, applied, and tested at every one that would allow me to. You know, a year later, I don't work from home anymore, but I work at an Air Force base hospital making a lot of money. Just stick in there and apply everywhere you can.
I also graduated from Allied... sm
I found a full-time per diem position fairly quickly at my local hospital. However, they downsized a few weeks later and the four of us in per diem positions were let go. So I can TOTALLY relate to your frustration, as I am now also again looking. Hang in there, the jobs are out there.

I'm not an Allied grad, but if they can't/won't help you get a job
after they "supposedly" trained you to be an MT, you sure as heck do NOT want to give them another 900 bucks. There is no way that is going to help you find a job.
Allied/New Grad

I wouldn't pay them another 900 bucks. They should have given you a business communication class that would have helped you to write a great cover letter and resume. You can get some good advice on Career Builders and websites like it on how to write your cover letter and resume. Did you do an externship/internship? If you did not, you should definitely gain some experience that way first. Your school should be able to help you out with that and should have done that for you.

Also, don't wait until you graduate to look for work, the sooner you start the faster you will work. Just don't give up! I graduated in December and just now got hired by some one, and I graduated with high honors. It can take awhile, but my understanding is that now is the "season" that the MT business picks up, and you are more likely to find a job now than later. Good Luck!

Allied Medical Schools

Yes, I am trying to find out if this school is a good school or not.  Can someone give me some info on this school if possible.

Thanks

Allied Business School
Has anyone out there actually graduated from Allied and found employment? I finised their medical transcription program on 10/25/07 and have yet to get any kind of job offer. I have sent tons of resumes with no luck. I am so frustrated I can't even begin to tell you. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I just want to find somewhere to start. Thank You.
Allied Business Schools, Inc.
Has anyone else out there taken MT courses from Allied Business Schools, Inc. - and if so - have you had any trouble finding a job?
Allied Business Schools
I also graduated from Allied and I have had a terrible time finding employment. I graduated in October and have yet to start working.
Allied Business Schools, Inc.
I graduated from their course in Aug. 2006. I found employment within two weeks, of course, with no help from Allied. I went to Google and found as many transcription companies as I could and applied to all of them that would let me. I did a lot of foot work.

Just keep testing, and eventually, you will find employment. I know it is rough to get started, but it will eventually pay off. I just got a job working at a hospital on an Air Force base (coincidentally the same base my husband is stationed at), and I didn't even apply for the job. The staffing company that has the contract found my resume on Monster.com and called me. I don't work at home anymore, but it is a steady paycheck.

If you are this new to the business, then you might want to consider working outside the home just to get your foot in the door.

Hope this helps! If you have any questions, you can e-mail me, and I will help you out in any way that I can.
Can someone that graduated from Allied please respond...
Can someone that graduated from Allied please respond... I really want to here from current or graduated students.

Thank you.
I'm a trainer at my Job and I get Allied grads
Lynette,

I've found the key to making it work for Allied grads is to follow up with a good internship and job training placement.

We do this at our company and we have Allied grads who work out fine. What they seem to need is 2 to 3 more months of hands on training to be ready to produce valuable work.

There is no reason to give up or quit and spend $3400 with Andrews to be able to retake APT (anatomy, physiology, terminology). And I believe Allied uses the SUM material for Beginning Med Typing- SUM has been around for decades I think.

A recent trainee of mine went to Allied and followed up with internship at Med Workshops. The internship made it happen for her. She is now doing fine and going on 1-1/2 yrs employed with us.

I want to go a little further on this subject:

Tuition is going to have to go down in the current economic climate. $3400 and up for tuition is just too steep for most people. Even the best schools will be hit hard by the reduction in discretionary spending.
Allied Medical School....
I have been taking the MT course through Allied Medical School.. Anyone ever heard about them?  Also, they allow you to take the quizzes and test online open~book...will this hurt me in the long run?  And, how do I become "certified"?  Will I have to go take a certification test somewhere???????????
Allied doesn't care if you learn anything OR if you get a job. They just want their $$. nm
x
I respectfully disagree--Allied has a GUARANTEED...
...lifetime job placement program.  Any of the MT schools iare what you make of it and how you work it.  I have already been offered a position and I haven't even finished the Allied course yet.  Just sayin'.
I've seen many, many Allied grads who can't find a job. sm
I also know many people who hire MTs who do employment testing, and "most" Allied MTs can't pass the employment tests. That's why many companies just say they require 2 years' experience and won't even test Allied grads.
AHP Graduate

Hi!  I graduated from AHP last July.  I found a job before graduating.  In my opnion, I feel getting a job depends 50% on the course and 50% on the individual.  I have been working for 1 year now and at times had 2 jobs at once.  I had a hard time getting people to let me test, and I believe that is where the challenge is if you take the AHP course.  When companies sees an Andrews or M-Tech graduate they won't hesitate to let them test.  Good luck!  If you need any help just let me know!

New Graduate

Hello All,

I am a newly graduate from a Technical College in Little Rock, AR. I am seeking part-time employment from an online company that provides the equipment necessary. I am also willing to take a pay decrease or even volunteer work for the experience in exchange. Does anyone know of a company whom I may contact? Serious replies or employers only please.

New Graduate MT
Hello everyone I am a new graduate from Career Step Medical Transcription and I am looking for an entry-level position, if anyone knows of any companies looking for someone that is eager to get started with their career please feel free to e-mail the information to me. Thank you.
New Graduate
Can anyone tell me where I can find work (any) from home that hire new graduates?
I also am a CAI graduate...

and the course only seems to have a bad rep on these boards.  Everytime I have ever posted about them, it has been pulled. The moderate has denied this, but it's true.  I don't know why it is looked down upon, except that it isn't one of the "big 3".  It is a reasonably-priced, in-depth course and I learned a lot and was contacted the day after I graduated by a national company to test.  I am still working for them.

New graduate

Hi Everyone.

I just completed a Medical Transcription and Billing course, and I was wondering how to get a job when everyone wants 3+ years experience.  Does anyone have a company they can suggest to me that works with recent graduates???

Thanks so much for your help!!

new graduate
I know Northeast Transcription will waive the experience requirement if you pass their test.  They pay on a 70-character line which amounts to making a little less but you could always start with them to gain experience then move on to something else.
New graduate looking for first job

Hello,

I am a new MT graduate and having a hard time trying to find work because of lack of experience.  Does any one have any tips or suggestions to help me out?

Job for new graduate
No list given by my school. I attended a community college that I thought was a good program and now after reading all these posts I should have enrolled in an online program. It Would have saved me gas and babysitter money! Thanks for the advice on on being persistent, I am at it every day.
New graduate
I have just passed and received my certificate and am still finding it hard to find a job due to everyone wanting experience.  Any helpful hints out there? Kathy
New Graduate

I have just recently graduated from MT school. I am getting discouraged about finding a job in this highly competive field. Does anyone know of any companies hiring new MT's out of school?

graduate
This may be irrelevant, but UW-Madison accepted my Penn Foster High School diploma and transcript. UW-Madison, University of Wisconsin-Madison, is an accredited nation-wide university. I am currently in my junior year and I am grateful to Penn Foster, to this day, that they have helped paved the way to my receiving a higher education at a nation-wide competitive university.
M-TEC graduate

Yes, there is a syllabus that you follow at your own pace.  There are scheduled online classes, but you do not have to attend them live.  I learned many things that have helped me on the job from these classes by reading the class notes (transcript of the class) at my own convenience.  In fact, I have gone back since I graduated from time to time to review classes that interest me.

I disagree. Allied has a pretty decent program.

Check your Wal-Mart or McDonald's for Allied grads...
You'll have a better chance finding them working there than working in MT.

You're welcome.
Unfortunately Allied has a poor training program, and the companies know it. nm

New here and about to graduate next week
Hi..
I'm new here.
My name is Danielle, Dani for short. I'm an almost newly-graduated medical transcriptionist student. i will finish my one year course from GTCC in Jamestown, NC next week. I've already started looking for work.

I have one question though...as a newly graduated MT, where are the best places to look for work? the only major transcription experience i have is through the 10 week internship that was required of the program that I am enrolled in. Any suggestions or advice would be helpful. Dani from Greensboro, NC

Another frustrated graduate
Where did you get hired for at home work for entry-level position?
What MT school did you graduate from?
That will make a difference in what you need to do now.
New graduate looking for employment.

Hi,

I am a new graduate that is having a difficult time finding companies that are hiring new MTs.  I have put in numerous resumes with "not enough experience" replies.  Does anyone have suggestions on companies that are willing to give new MTs a chance.

MTEC graduate
I graduated from MTEC in April of this year. I received an extensive list of companies willing to test me as a new grad. Upon testing with my chosen companies, I received multiple job offers. I was able to go to work for my 1st choice company. I am a bit of a skeptic too, especially when it comes to investing hard-earned money, but you can't go wrong with MTEC. Call and speak with Kathy or Susan. They will be more than happy to answer all of your questions. I wish you well with your decision.
New Graduate Going CRAZY!
Hello,
I am a new MT. I am so frustrated about finding employment that I really do not know what to do anymore? I have tried all local hospitals, offices, and companies. I just feel that this field may not have been the best step in my life? I am proud of myself, yet every test I take seems to kick me down lower than I am right now... are there any companies that do hire new MT graduates without making a 98 on the testing? I made a 87 on a test that required 90!I just do not know where to go from here?
If any MT out there could offer me overflow work or guide me in a new direction, I would be ever so grateful!
New MT graduate still looking for work
