If you are seeing examples of .6 cpl, why...sm

are you charging 11? You need to charge what is comparable for your area. I don't understand what you mean by seeing "examples" at .6 per line?

Will I be considered an MTSO since there is no middleman? Generally you are considered a medical transcription service OWNER if you have other people working under you. With a single part time account, you could consider yourself self employed.

Is .11 cents a line reasonable for 24 hour turn around? Yes, unless everyone else is charging 6?

How long do you stay at that rate?   Good question. This is one of the challenges facing MT...many MTSO's are not raising rates, in fact, they are being told by accounts that if they don't cut their rates, the account will get the work done in India. If I were you, I would plan to stay at that rate and don't raise it. I have not seen any trend towards increasing MT fees and personally don't plan to.

Is it recommended to charge more for consult notes? Again, I wouldn't. There's no rationale to charge more for one type of work than the other, only things like pick ups, stat notes, archives, etc. Just take your 11 cpl and be grateful for it!

Also, is anyone aware of the HIPPA requirements for emaling transcription files back to the doctor?  He sends them in WAV files and I send them back password protected.  As the Business Associate, you only need to be compliant with what HE recommends. If he wants to do it that way, just try to get something in writing as to what he has decided to do for HIPAA. You should sign a Business Associate agreement with him, though.

Good work on getting an account!
