Medical Trans. Staffing School- here is one Summer

OK!  It was harder to find than I thought.  They are in the middle of an offer to train right now so, Summer, you can see and read what they are doing.

I didn't want to use the one we currently use for fear of being biased, but we did use this school for staffing about 1-1/2 yrs ago and they did a good job.  Our company paid down the tuition somewhat to attract a large number of students at one time.  We didn't pay it down this low.

$1990 for the Basics, short internship and a job.  If I'm right this is about the same price as Career Step but you don't get internship or a job there.

I think M-Tec is over $3000 and Andrews is probably close to that.  How much is Andrews?  Does anyone know their tuition cost?

You don't need to pay retail prices to be trained and have a job.  I know Community Colleges are very long and pretty costly so this is a good alternative.

Of course, Penn Foster, US Career, etc are really a tough way to go.  I think a recent grad of US Career told me she had trained on tapes- Whew!!!!!!

I'm afraid there aren't as many MT staffing schools as I thought.  The other one I found didn't remotely compare to this one.  Beautiful website!

staffing school
The same thing I said!! But, M-Tec and Andrews were too long for her and also much too expensive. She found a school with a 9 month course and job placement. More of a staffing school than anything else. It saved her over $1000 and a lot of time. I was really impressed. This school actually trains students for companies it has affiliations with. A nice concept.
Trans. School
I need some help from you newbies. I know of someone who wants to take a transcription course at home. I don't know which one to recommend to her. She is disabled from working in an office but is free to work at home. I'd like to help her get started. So, if anyone has anything to say about a school, positive or negative, please post a reply. It's been a long time since I've had to research this, so any help would be appreciated.
Allied Medical School....
I have been taking the MT course through Allied Medical School.. Anyone ever heard about them?  Also, they allow you to take the quizzes and test online open~book...will this hurt me in the long run?  And, how do I become "certified"?  Will I have to go take a certification test somewhere???????????
online medical transcription school

Do you know of any legit online medical transcription school that I can consider ?  I really want to do this but seems like all of the schools out there cost an arm and a leg and can not afford to take out so much loan and be in such debt espcially it's not even paying much after I graduate.

Please help me if anyone know of a good, reasonable school I can apply to.  Thank you so much.

Best Medical Transcription School that can be taken in Canada?
Hi I live in Canada and I'm interested in taking a Medical Transcription program online. I have heard that the best schools are Andrews, M-Tec, and Career Step but all these are from the US and I'm not to sure if I'll be able to take them coming from Canada. I have heard of schools from Canada such as ICS and Canscribe. Are these any good? I especially want to hear the opinions of ones who have taken the course through ICS because it's a lot less pricier than Canscribe but I'm not too sure of if the program is good.
staffing schools??
Would you be opposed to telling me the name of the employer you work for?
staffing schools is what I call them

I don't want to mention who I work for because it is a small world among the larger companies and schools and I don't want any hard feelings or job grief.  I'm too old now to start over!!

Medical Transcription Staffing schools are not the retail type of schools we normally think of; the ones who advertise on Google, Yahoo and MSN.  These schools specialize in training groups of students for an MT company all at one time.  Or they provide small groups on a regular basis.

These types of schools also exist in other fields.  They work on what I would call "wholesale margins" because they don't incur as much overhead and they deal in larger numbers.

Rather than promote who we use I'll find one for this board as an example.  I can Google or Yahoo the web and should be able to find one.  I'll do it this weekend, if I can remember.

Are you a medical transcriptionist? Have you experience or training in medical transciption?
You can't just say you want to be "an" MT and just start doing it.  It is not easy.
Trans Am associated
HI...I have just signed up with Trans Am, so far I am happy. They are very helpful and sooooooooo nice.
If it works like they say I am happy I spent the money to get the program. I cant find anyone else to give a newbie a shot at working.
They say how badly we are needed, but make it sooooo difficult to get any experience.
Debi
med trans inc.
HAS ANYONE HEARD OF MED TRANS INC. IN ARIZONA??
trans am

What is bad about them?

Trans AM
I was just browsing and noticed you post. I too was caught up in the Trans AM thing about 2 years ago. I lost some money, but I got to transcribe some practice files and had them edited for me. That gave me enough experience to land a local doc. From there to an IC position, then to Spheris and now I work for a local multi-speciality hospital. Don't give up. I didn't.
trans am
I can't believe someone can claim being a good Christian and pull stunts like that. They should be put in jail or sued or something
Trans am

I have not had personal experience with them but have been told by many to stay clear of them.

You can do a search and read many threads on them.

TRANS-SCAM
you will train forever and never get paid! Run away now!
cALIFORNIA TRANS
I beg to differ.  I've been with them for nearly 10 years and love my job.  No, she doesn't help you set up your computer but the hospital help desk does.  And yes, you do have to be somewhat computer literate.  What's the big deal with once a month pay?
Allstate Trans.?

Does anyone know anything about Allstate Transcriptions?  They have a mentoring program for newbies, supposedly, and you have to pay $99 to get into it. I'm very leery of having to pay for anything to get a job.

psyche trans..
are you looking for someone to work with you on this specialy? I would like to try my luck if you are..
trans am associates
can anyone give me the scoop on trans am associates?  a friend suggested that i look into it, but i keep seeing a bunch of information about it being a scam.  are they legit or just scam artists?  help a newbie out please.
Try E-Trans Plus out of Nashville
Also, DTS out of Tennessee often hires newbies. Don't get discouraged... My girlfriend graduated and started getting scared after about 5 wks with no offers. She is now working for a new company and loves her job. Just be persistent.
Trans am Transcription
Does anybody know anything about Trans am Transcription out of Florida?
Medical Transcription/Medical Coding

Hi,

I am a MT and can't find a job or pass employment test.  So, I have to take one of the AAMT approved schools this time around and was thinking about Medical Coding but, not sure of this.  Does anyone know if Medical Coding is harder than Medical Transcription to pass or is the stress more intense?  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a bunch!

Barb

Medical Coder or Medical Transcription

I am so confused!!  I took a Medical Transcription course and could not find a job and it was not one of the BIG 3.  I am about ready to go with M-Tec Medical Transcription School.  But, I have been reading post about Medical Coders and now I do not know which to choose.  I do not want to make another mistake and choose the wrong school or the wrong career.  Any advice or insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

New MTs - Beware of Trans Am Associates
This website is a scam - For starters, you have to take a transcription test by listening to dictation (can't use the foot pedal), writing it down on paper, then type it in an email. Most legitimate companies let you use your foot pedal.

They also offer to give you free MT training (no such thing unless you are trained on the job on-site). The catch? You have to buy almost $400 (if not more) software.

Trans Am Associates scam preys on new or aspiring MTs - please be wary! I am an 8-year MT, and have never been asked before to take an MT test this way, plus this company has numerous entries on www.ripoffreport.com about "students" that have been swindled.

.....if you haven't figured it out by now, Trans--Am is a scam- sm
any company that asks you to pay $$$ in order to work for them is not on the level. (I am not talking about renting equipment like a C-phone, footpedal or a computer). I have not heard of Career Builder, but again do not pay to work for anyone. As for trying to get a job just keep applying and test everywhere you can.
Trans am Assosciates? any info or feedback ?

I've been checking out this company and they require me to buy alot of software...I know I have to have some software, but I just wanted to make sure before I spend too much time (and money-possibly) on this company.   Help, please....

Trans Am isn't a BAD company, it's a RIP OFF. Don't believe folks? Go ahead and find out.

Agree with an outside school, but I went to a business & tech school. Great experience, better

You CAN get a job at home, right out of school, but it has to be a GOOD school.
You should enroll in Andrews School or M-TEC. I know you don't want to spend more money, but at least you WILL be able to get a job. If you thought At Home Professions was a good course, you will be totally amazed at what you DIDN'T learn in that course that you WILL learn at the two good schools. There is no "required" curriculum for MT, anybody can open up a school, charge what they want, and teach what they want. Companies will waive the 2-years' experience requirement for graduates of Andrews School and M-TEC, but NOT for the other schools.
Another Medical Must

Does anyone know anything about this company?

I would appreciate any information on them.

Thanks !

Another Medical Must
Thanks. I did post it on the company board, but no replies yet.
Medical transcription is a lot more than just
typing. It depends on your knowledge of the material, how clear the dictation is, your knowledge of the material, how bad the doctor's accent is, your knowledge of the material, the quality of the recording, and, oh yes, your knowledge of the material. It also depends a lot on your knowledge of the material.
Becoming a Medical Transcriptionist

I am interested in becoming a MT but i'm not sure how to find out information on it. I'm trying to find out which is the best school, best rates and how it all works. Can I start working from home immediately or do I first have to work in an office? Is it hard to find a job? is the pay good? If anyone has any information for me please let me know - I'm getting desperate!

getting a Medical Transcription Job

I have taken a Medical Transcription course through PCDI but every job that I have applied for has wanted experience. How do you get experience if no one will hire you? Has anyone else had this problem? Please help...I'm so frustrated with the whole thing!!!

a medical transcription job
I finished a medical transcription class in June of 2005 and worked for a surgeon for 3 months.  I was driving far for little hours.  Can anyone tell me of a company that hires transcriptionists with very little experience
well, if you want to do medical transcription, then you want to get a job.
to get a job as a newbie is not as easy as you think. Some of the schools partner with companies who will take their newbies, with some additional specific training. So it increases your chances of getting a job - that is, if you want to work for the companies that partner with the school. Otherwise, you may want to go to the community college if they have a certificate program because at least you will have college credit towards your degree for your next job, when MT tanks.
Medical Secretary
Medical Secretary making $8.00/hr???? Where are you? Here in the DC Metro Area we are making $12-13/hr on average to start.
Do you have a medical dictionary?

AC Medical Records?

HI! Has anyone heard of AC Medical Records in Oregon?  I was offered a position with them and was wondering if anyone had any info. Thanks in advance!

Amanda

Medical Transcription is
looked upon as a stay-at-home-Mom's dream job.  A way to really make a great living while Junior is looking over your shoulder.  The advertisements do state that this works very well for family life.  Career Step has on the opening page "eliminate daycare".  So, do you think that MT's are being mislead?  If I had a toddler, I would jump at the chance to learn a way to make money at home all the while raising Junior.  JMO.
not unless you have some medical training

Medical Dictionary
Question for experienced MTs...can I find a good Medical Dictionary that can be downloaded into Microsoft Word or similar program...if not, can you please advise me on  what you work with?

Medical Transcription

Hi,

I know what you mean.  The same thing happen to me and now the only thing you can do is enroll in another school.  I am enrolling in M-Tec at the end of the month.  I have researched and researched.  This is one I choose.

Best of luck to you!

Medical Spellcheck
Can someone tell me the best medical spellchecker to buy?  I need a new one and I do not like the old one I used
Medical terminology
I have to agree that this is one of the most fun courses in the MT program!

That said, do you have a good bookstore nearby? If so, maybe you can go in and take a peek in the "RMT Study Guide". That will give you a great idea of the extent of terminology you will be learning.

Good luck (but you'll do great)!
medical terminology
The medical terminology needed to be an MT is much more in-depth than most people realize. It's not something you can jump right into and start making decent money. There is also the fact that even if you know a lot of med terms, you have to be able to understand the doctors, who often have difficult accents or just don't speak well. Some people have been lucky enough, with a little knowledge of med terms and typing/spelling/grammar skills, to find a company that will take them on and train them (I did this, 13 years ago - I never went to MT school - I had a bachelor's degree in nutrition). I know there are others who had similar experiences. But this was years ago and these days (from what I'm reading on the board)I think the MT training programs are the best way to go. You'd be much better prepared. I know MT sounds like a wonderful work at home opportunity, and it can be, but it really does take time to build up the skills to make money at this. Good luck.
Medical Transcription Job
Does anyone know who hires new medical transcriptionist? I've been searching for 4 months know and cant find anything.

Best medical references
The school I am enrolled in sent me a Stedmans Medical Dictionary.  I don't have any drug reference books or anything else. What do you recommend for drug reference books and dictionaries?  Also, I am wanting to try to supplement my education as much as possible before I graduate. Does anyone have any advice on how to do this?  I guess experience is probably the best thing??   TIA
