In Reply to: This post is definitiely an advertisment for PENN FOSTER!..NM - oho!

Interesting response to my response. I chose Penn Foster because I had been laid off six months prior and went with a program that wasn't the least or most expensive. Also the small print about courses that offered job placement mentioned there were no guarantees of a job offer, just a list of places to apply. Of course I can't give an opinion on any other program, because I have no experience, I only took the Penn Foster course.

Maybe I got a job because got lucky, or maybe I scored very high on my employer's tests (probably both)...but in any event, after a year of being unemployed, six months of it studying my little heart out on a daily basis, it's my opinion that I earned this position and it wasn't all luck.

The pay isn't great, but it got my foot in the door and gives me a chance to get some experience. In addition, the people I work with are great - they are patient (pardon the pun)with me, and answer all my questions right away.

The economy is in lousy shape at the moment, and jobs are very hard to come by. Hopefully things will turn around soon and posts will begin to be about too much work instead of too little.

To those newbies out there looking for an MT job, apply everywhere, take as many tests as you can, and remember you probably won't be getting paid well at first. But with time, you will gain the experience most companies want and will hopefully work your way up where you are. Good luck!
