At Home Professions / US Career Institute
The same is true with AHP. (now called US Career Institute). Thankfully, I already have pretty good grammatical skills, but there is a good chunck of this program that is strictly dedicated to grammar.
U.S. Career Institute/At-Home Professions
Hi, I am wondering if you are talking about AHP only giving you 20 reports to transcribe? I am taking the class through them and I have transcribed at least 325 reports. There are 8 reports for each chapter in each course. I haven't had any problems with the material they teach you.  You transcribe H&P reports, Chart notes, Discharge Summary reports, Consultation reports, Pathology reports, Autopsy reports, Radiology reports and Operative reports.  Just wondering
Health Professions Institute is a legitimate school
This is based in Modesto, CA and you can go to the website and check it out: http://www.hpisum.com. They also have great reference books that you can buy. Sometimes you can pick up used programs on MT Daily as well. You can also download samples from their website. Check it out.
U.S. Career Institute
I believe how well you will do with your training from U.S. Career Institute will have to do with how hard you study. Application of what you have been taught is essential with MT training as it is with any other training. I am learning a lot through U.S. Career Institute as that is my desire. What companies will be looking at is whether or not you can pass their test.

Also, At-Home Professions does still exist. They are a sister school of U.S. Career Institute, and their training is a more extensive. Hence, it costs more.

I hope this is helpful.
US Career Institute
Hi, i'm new to the board and was curious if anyone has heard of US Career Institute. I'm pondering whether or not to get started with this MTing and I'd love to hear any newbie advice, please  Let me know what you know :) Thanks!
I want to know about US Career Institute.

Hello everyone. I am new to this site. I was wondering if anyone knew anything about US Career Institute. I am almost finished with the program. I would say that I have about a month and a half left.

I just wanted to know what my odds were of finding a job after I receive my diploma. I am very nervous and scared I am going to find out that I wasted my time with this school.

I am from Michigan if that is at all helpful in answering my question.

Thank you!

US Career Institute?
Hello everyone. I was wondering, has anyone here attended US Career Institute? I've heard about M-TEC, Career Step, and Andrews, but nothing about US Career Institute (which I have just enrolled in). If you did attend, did you receive any job placement assistance like they advertised? How soon did you find a job after completing the program? Any help would be wonderful. Thanks :)
US Career Institute
I attended when they were called At-Home Professions.  No, I did not receive any job placement help.  Of course, things could/should change from the time I finished up in 2004.  I had a job immediately upon receiving my certificate...still working for the same company today.
U.S Career Institute?
Is any one a graduate of this school?  Was it easy to find an at home position when you graduated?  TIA
U.S. Career Institute
is a complete waste of time. Go to one of the top two: Andrews or M-TEC. Anything else is second-class. And no, I am not employed by either of them. I just know how tough the job market is in MTing and hate to see people waste money on matchbook schools.
Any one graduate or know about U.S. Career institute
I am almost through the medical transcription course through U.S. Career institute. Does anyone know anything about them?
Has anyone taken an At-Home Professions course?
I'm feeling very confused and overwhelmed with what I should do.  I enrolled in an At-Home Profession course last week, but I'm still waiting for my first shipment.  In the meantime, I received an e-mail from M-Tec saying I did pretty good with the enrollment test and they feel I'd be a good candidate to take their course.  I heard good things about M-Tec.  It's a little more expensive than AHP, so I would have to get a student loan.  I guess that's where I worry...MONEY.  I was wondering if there's anyone who has taken the AHP course and what their opinion is on it.  Also, I would love anyone's input on my situation.  Thanks for your help!!
at home professions course
i have taken 2 courses through them and was very happy with them. since then i have received 4 diplomas in 4 of there programs and am now seeking work as a vet technician and soon to be a private investigator for animal cruelty investigations thanks to AHP
At-Home Professions...
What happened is people finally learned that AHP doesn't teach you more than 1/3 of what you need to know in order to get a job as an MT. Once a company finds out that you got your "education" at AHP, they will not even bother to let you take their employment test. Once so many people learned of this, AHP changed their name so they could keep cheating people by taking their money but NOT teaching them enough of the proper things to get a job as an MT.

Andrews or M-TECH are the two best schools. EVERYONE who graduates from those 2 schools GETS hired afterwards.
At Home Professions
How far into the course are you?
At-Home Professions
I'm taking this course, though I've slowed my studying severely (I really need to get a hot-shot or something to jump start me again). I'm about halfway through also. I have SUM tapes to supplement, and Sierra Transcription also to supplement.

Hopefully, I'll get a foot in the door somewhere sometime. I'm also a scopist - or trying to get the business off the ground, while working part-time.
At-Home Professions

I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I didn't see anything.

I just went to one of their seminars last night.  I was just wondering if anyone else has gone through them and what they thought about the company?

Thanks a lot!!

CS is better than At Home Professions, BUT
I am also a grad of CS, and if I had it to do over again, I would choose Andrews or M-Tec, no matter how long it took me to come up with the money.

It's better to have REAL reference materials, and the only real ones you get from CS are dictionary and drug book. All the rest are written by founder who apparently no longer has anything to do with the school except sit back and collect the money!
at home professions
At Home professions was the course.  I know nothing about Career Step other than it's cost.  I posted in answer to the original question but my post got moved down the list as others posted.
At Home Professions
Don't waste your time. I went to see what I was missing out on as I started out in the file room of the urology office I worked at. Way too expensive for what little bit you got. Since I learned on the job, I can't advise you as to where you should go. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
re: at home professions
oh, boy.....NOW I find out...after getting through the course and not having much luck getting a job....am so in the dark...and have wasted the money....hubby not happy....I am not happy...at-home does not assist you with finding employment....they just take your money and run....HELP!!!!
at-home professions
Has anyone else graduated from at-home professions? I thought the school was really good and the instructors were great! But now that I am trying to start a business from home I am having a hard time!! Anyone out there with some good advice???
at-home professions
I just recently graduated from at-home professions and they are a great school! There instructors are there for you every step of the way. They are an accredited and highly regarded school. Now that I am graduated now and am looking to work from home...that is actually the difficult part....
at-home professions
Lynn, I just graduated from at-home professions, but I didn't get great responses for work! How did you find a job so soon? Are you working in the field or from home? I want to work from home. My GPA was pretty good but nobody wants to give you a chance or they want to pay you .03 a line. That seems really low, the school made it sound like I would be making at least .12 a line....any advice???
At-Home Professions

I know you don't want to hear this, but your education was inadequate at best. You do not know that yet because you are new to the profession. It is possible to start working from home if you went to Andrews or MTEC. I am glad your instructors were nice; however, nice does not pay the bills. That is why you are having difficulty finding a job. You have been duped as many before you have.

Test, test, and test some more. When you discover you cannot pass the tests and no job offers are coming your way, you will understand I am giving you good advice and not trying to be mean or hurtful to you.

Good luck to you!

Lilly

at-home professions
Lilly, actually I applaud hearing this, I am not naive about this. I understand that I will be needing to go on with more training but my point is I did do the training and I did learn a lot! But am I opposed to learning more? Heck No!!! I will keep going and I will land a job and actually I have had a couple of job offers but I am not sure if they are what I am looking for so I am going to keep up with the training and I will continue to learn, but as someone said to me yesterday no matter what college you go to or how much training you have you will never learn it all! There will always be research and everyday you will learn something new, I look forward to it!! Thank you for your response
at-home professions
Thank you Lilly. I really sincerely appreciate the feedback. It all helps me. Even if it is not what I always want to hear.
At-home professions

Lisa, I graduated from At-Home and I got a job working from home.  My suggestion to you is use the resources the school offers.  I was frustrated like you, but then called grad services.  They gave me several places that hire new grads from their program.  I got 4 offers in 1 week.  I work from home at my pace.  At-Home is not a bad program you just need to utilize their resources.  I make a competitive wage for a new MT with a reputable company.  GOOD LUCK

at-home professions
Hi! I took over a year for the whole 5 courses, so just keep in mind that the more you take your time the more you will learn and remember! I am still looking for work, but I have had some offers, I also want to work from home. Course 4 and 5 are the hardest, so it will take you some time. I had such a hard time with the Japanese accents that sometimes I would sit at my computer and yell at the Dr. who was dictating and tell him to learn some English! My husband used to laugh and say who are you talking to?? Please don't get discouraged and be careful who you take advice from on MT stars website because there are some not so nice ladies out there!!! You will get it done, but there is a lot to know and learn and it has to sink in, there are a lot of terms to remember and formats!!! Hang in there. If your just getting ready to start COurse 4 I think it took me a month and a half but I did it on my own time...5 took me longer!!! If you want to talk just email me!!! Lisa
anyone doing the at-home professions course 5?
i am finding this extremely difficult. if anyone is doing this course and could offer some assistance, it would be greatly appreciated! thanks!
at-home professions
Brianne, I sent a personal note to your email but I just finished the course and it was hard but you can do it! I am so sick of the negative responses on this site. You were just asking for help not how crappy the course is or was right? I took it and if you have any questions feel free to email me.
Lisa
did anyone take/n at home professions?

hi everyone!

im new here  i know most people dont really like AHP that much, but im up to book 4 out of 5, and i really want to finish. if i have to, ill take more school, but im going to try to work for a local dr office or hospital, so i believe they are ok with the training ahp gives...

but i was wondering has anyone else taken this course? or is anyone taking it now? its getting a bit hard, and im pretty much on my own and sometimes need a little help  and i would be happy to help anyone with the first 3 books

thanks!

At Home Professions
Hi I have a question. I'm looking into taking MT courses and I had originally thought about AHP. After visiting these boards I noticed that several people much prefer Andrews or Meditec. I was just wondering what is the difference? I've talked to some people who just love AHP, but I wanted to research all my options before I dive in. I'd appreciate any feedback.
At-Home Professions
I was happy with At-Home Professions, I did have previous medical experience so a lot of the content was review, but I graduated in May, and I am now working for Orion Medical Transcription and love it!! Good luck to you!!
At-Home Professions
I took the At-Home Professions billing and medical transcription course. I completed it in one year and was lucky enough to have a small company contact me the same month I completed my course. I have been working for them for about a year and a half now. I am having trouble getting a full time trans job however because I have no acute care exp. and the hospitals in my area have not hired for about 5 years. Just wanted to let you know that it is possible to get a job even if you have to choose a less expensive school. It just might be more difficult.
At-home professions WHERE DID YOU
get a job. I too graduated from AHP. I have not found employment. Would appreciate any help or reply.

Thanks,

VAMT

Anyone currently taking the medical transcription course with At Home Professions??

I was wondering if anyone has heard of or even graduated from At Home Professions MT learning course!, If so was it successful??
at-home professions or careersteps?
I'm confused - stay at home mom, are you referring to the course at At-Home Professions not Careersteps?

Allied is no better than At Home Professions or Penn Foster. Not a good school. NM

TRS Institute/RMT Course
Hello, has anyone taken the RMT course that is offered by TRS institute? I was thinking of enrolling to take as a refresher course. Thanks!
TRS Institute Opinion

Ok, I know that a lot of people have posted questions and opinions about different schools.  I've been researching these myself via AHDI, the school website, requesting them to send info, and reading the various posts here.  I was really leaning towards CareerStep because I can function without someone standing over my shoulder and I liked the idea of being able to finish the course quicker if I put more time into it.  I've working in various areas of healthcare for years.  The last position I held I dealt with outpatient billing for a hospital, departments included ENT, Audiology, and Psych.  I did some CPT and ICD-9 coding for Psych in addition to the billing.  Thus I have experience with medical terminology, diagnosis codes, and medical abreviations.  No one would hire me even with this background.  So I determined school was the best bet.  After the mixed reviews for CareerStep that I've read on here I'm now down to either M-TEC, The Andrews School, or TRS Institue.  I've seen what all the various opinions on M-Tec and Andrews but has anyone had experience with TRS Institue.  I was also looking at Allied Medical School's program for transcription but hesitate because they're not AHDI approved and cost the same as M-TEC.  Allied offers a free laptop but I've already got two :)  Plus they offer lifetime career placement (same as M-TEC) but they're NOT approved which makes me very nervous.

Also, does anyone know how much it takes to take the RMT test?  TRS Institute will pay the fee but I'm just wondering if anyone knows how much that is considering their tuition is $3995.

Any thoughts on this would be helpful.  Thanks for reading!

Does anyone have any experience with TRS Institute- thinking of applying.

AH Professions
I took the At Home Professions course, finished it in 2004, started working approximately a month before I received my certificate and have worked steadily since.
AH Professions
I also completed their course and found work immediately. I never had a negative experience with them and have done well with steady work since.  I don't think you should comment on them so negatively.
mt/at home mom
I am 29 years old. This is literally the perfect career for me. Before, I always thought that work from home jobs were just a scam, until I found out about mt. I bring in an income and i am home for my kids. I went to a local technical school. The course was 4 months long and I got a job 2 weeks out of class. I love it! I used to be an admin assistant and hated it.
Getting that home job

I would go back to those doctors you  know and let them know that you are going into business for yourself.  If they don't need someone, ask them if they know any of their colleagues that does.  Give them some business cards and let them work for you.

Another thing is to get your card into the doctor's lounges at your local hospitals.  Also, make some cold calls to the business/office manger of some other doctor's offices

There are three words you need when you begin marketing.  They are "network, network, network."

Hope this helps.

At-Home
I took the course and it will definitely prepare you for the job that you have to do. My first job, almost fell through because I did not have "experience". I literally begged them to let me try at a probationary rate for three months because I knew that I could do the job. When I turned in the first job, they said this is not your first job; you have done this before. I told them only in my training. The probationary rate lasted one week!! This training will not get you a job. Getting your foot in the door is the hardest part because no one wants to help you gain experience. Once you get in, you will be prepared for the job. I finished the course about 6 years ago and although it took me a few months to find my first job, I had actually no trouble getting the second job with good results. I have about five friends who have taken this course. One chooses not to work now, but the other four are employed. Two of these individuals had jobs before they even finished the course.
I am looking for a " at home" MT job
I am expecting a baby in October and I am despritely looking for an at home MT job. I don't have any experience, but I will graduate June 15th in Medical Coding/Billing. I am a fast learner also. If you could e-mail me and let me know any info. I would appreciate it greatly. Thanks, Rachel Link
2nd income MT at home

Does anyone out there do home transcription in the evenings as a second income? I am looking to type about 15 hours a week at home with nonspecific hours. I was wondering if anyone else is doing this or if there is even an opportunity for that available.  Thanks!

Kristy

2nd income MT home
I do. I work full-time and part-time from my home. I work 12-20 hours per week for my part-time job mostly in the evenings. Is is possible.
