I love Letterman but lost respect for him last night
I like a good joke and I've always loved Dave. What's not to love. The guy is genuinely funny, however last night was that last for me. It wasn't that he was poking fun of McCain for not showing up, it was him going on and on disorting the truth. But the clincher for me was the other night when he had Clinton on. I had it on the channel and walked in the room and saw him so turned it off. But last night when he did his great presidential speeches, now he has a clip of bozo Clinton saying something. I'd like to know how much our impeached clinton paid him to get something that came out of his pie hole as a great speech. That impeached creep never said anything anyone could consider great. And last night I listened to it and it was not something great or memorable. No more Letterman for me. I am now a Leno lady.

When they ended up putting McCain in there that did it for me. I've lost all respect for both parties. Guess that's why I'm more into the Constitution party/Independent (depending on their viewpoints).
I can take an insult from people, and I can dish them out too, but sometimes I get just a little irrated.
I wish all parties would go away and people would vote on issues because of the issues and not because of which party suggested them. I wish people would accept blame when they are at fault and not blame it all on the other parties (both sides).
But one thing I am glad for is that if Obama is elected (in January after we hear how the electoral college voted), if he does become our next president then when he does give speeches he will have a nice strong voice and will not be saying "my friends" every 5 minutes.
Think I will take another sabatical from this board for awhile and focus on other things and get my mind off this nonsense.
I only lost $1000 so far-Hubby lost $2000 in a week (sm)
so, I called his financial advisor yesterday and told him to put hubby in a "safe" plan. It's now in a money market fund that is part of his IRA.
I have no choice. I have to stay where I am. I have no "safe" available. Neither of us will be able to retire on what is now in our 401Ks and you're not the only one. We couldn't buy a car with Both our 401Ks, let alone live on it.
We are late starters for retirement not until our late 40s funds (most of our employers did not offer pensions). We are now of the first retirement tier and although we own our home outright, if we live until we are 90, there is no way we can live off retirement 401Ks or SS.
My husband's father told him back in the 50s that we would experience something like what is happening today and stated it would be worse than the ཙ crash. It is sure starting to look that way, but we will survive some way, I hope.
We need to pray for the people on SS now that cannot survive. I, for one, would love to help them, but can't help ourselves at this moment.

Whoopi is okay as an actress, Barbara is okay at interviewing people. The rest of them are just a bunch of old housewives spewing their opinion and that's all it is. They have no background in reporting ability, and their show is just them talking about their opinions. They are just rich broads able to buy some TV time. Joy Behar is rude as anything. I heard her fill in as a radio guest one time for someone and the guest was a doctor who was talking about overweight kids and diabetes and how a lot of kids are born with diabetes. Her comment she made (more than once) that kids who are born with diabetes are not at fault because their moms were fat pigs and ate sugar laden food while being pregnant. She was just outright rude. Beside she's no skinny minny and has no room to talk.

Sorry for being so blunt, but what has he done to make you think he is the anti Christ? Today he stood up and said to the Muslim countries that their wives and daughters had just as much to contribute as their sons. He is not pandering to the Muslim countries. If you are truly an Independent, you would know that Fox News is the only place a conservative has to go to get anything of the conservative viewpoint in cable or broadcast news. THe others are in the pockets of liberals/Democrats and have been for years. Got a news flash for you...just because it appears on Fox does not make it untrue and just because it appears on MSNBC does not make it true.

Yes, I am truly an independent. I have been both. I have voted Democrat, but not in many years. When they took the hard left, they left me. Then I voted and was a member of Republican party. When they started leaving their conservative roots, they left me. So yes, I am an Independent. Independent of ANY party. No RNC or DNC tells me what to do or what to think.

I think Putin is taking a "wait and see" approach to the new USA President. Bush has certainly heated up the "Cold War" during his eight years in office. While there is not much reason to trust Putin, there's even less reason for Putin to trust the USA.

As the election quickly approaches, the U.S. bishops are shining a harsh spotlight on one bill: the Freedom of Choice Act, commonly called FOCA. FOCA is again before Congress; its chief sponsor in the Senate is Barbara Boxer and one of its co-sponsors is presidential candidate Barack Obama.
In July 2007, Obama told a Planned Parenthood audience: “The first thing I’d do as president is sign the Freedom of Choice Act.” Search YouTube.com for the words “Obama” and “FOCA” to hear it for yourself. Since Obama has said that signing FOCA into law would be his first priority as a new president, summarizing the bill answers the question: For what change does Barack Obama have the audacity to hope?
The U.S. bishops’ summary of FOCA points out:
• It creates a “fundamental right” to abortion throughout the nine months of pregnancy. No governmental body at any level would be able to “deny or interfere with” this right, or to “discriminate” against the exercise of this right “in the regulation or provision of benefits, facilities, services, or information.” For the first time, abortion would become an entitlement the government must condone and promote.
• Some states require that women be told about the risks of abortion. FOCA would erase all informed-consent laws states have enacted.
• Many states require that parents be informed and sign off on their daughters’ abortions, just as they are informed and involved in every other surgical procedure. FOCA would override and end all parental-involvement laws.
• Some states have laws promoting maternal health. Obama’s FOCA wouldn’t allow them.
• Regulation on abortion “clinics” helps keep these businesses responding to health and safety concerns. FOCA would end these regulations.
• FOCA would disallow “government programs and facilities that pay for or promote childbirth and other health care without subsidizing abortion,” say the U.S. bishops.
• Conscience-protection laws would end. These currently allow Catholic and other pro-life hospitals, doctors, medical students and health-care workers to opt out of participating in abortion in many places.
• After FOCA, any laws that prohibit a particular abortion procedure, such as partial-birth abortion, will no longer be in force.
• FOCA would also strike laws requiring that abortions only be performed by a licensed physician.

In a Sept. 19 letter to members of Congress, Cardinal Justin Rigali, chairman of the bishops’ Committee on Pro-Life Activities, raised the bishops’ concerns about any possible consideration of FOCA.
“Despite its deceptive title, FOCA would deprive the American people in all 50 states of the freedom they now have to enact modest restraints and regulations on the abortion industry,” wrote Cardinal Rigali. It would also “counteract any and all sincere efforts by government to reduce abortions in our country.”

I am not saying that he is perfect -
I never said anything about transparency - I am saying that even when I read the articles you all are quoting it never says that Obama lied about anything.
Maybe his aides misspoke, maybe Bush's aides misspoke, I don't know - but you all are calling Obama a liar and I just don't see where he lied.
At the same time, I don't think that telling what he and President Bush talked about is really all that bad a thing - yes, I really would like some transparency in knowing what is going on in my country - they are both elected officials and in fact are answerable to "we the people". I don't think any sensitive information was leaked out concerning our enemies - I think what we read was about our economy, which at this point we are all concerned about and should have as much information as possible.
Now for the part about admitting that he is wrong, if he is wrong or does something bad, I will be the first to stand up and say it, and I will be the first to admit I was wrong in supporting him, but at this point, I do not see anything he has done wrong.

of why dems are so critical of the right. You just throw stuff out there that has no basis. Given that I have looked at all available text that would fall into the category you speak of and have found nothing to back up your claim, the fact that Obama typically meticulously chooses his words before he says them, and your obvious unwillingness or inability to provide some kind of documentation to support your claim, I have to come to the conclusion that what you have said is false. If this is incorrect, then by all means, please feel free to prove me wrong.
The dems were just recently accused of character assassination after stating facts. And then here you come along with this garbage, which is basically the same thing that has been done by the pubs since before the election. At least you're consistent.
