A voter in front of me was asked to show a picture ID.....sm

Posted By: m on 2008-11-04
In Reply to: My voting story - sbMT

I was not and the voter in front of her was not. I think that, even in a small place where the election judges know most of the population, picture ID should be required. The guy behind me was the one I mentioned in my other post that apparently was not on the list. Maybe, in our democratic process, every other voter gets some kind of hassle? lol

I don't think he asked for that picture -
In fact, I read that he was already wishing he had a little bit more privacy during that vacation trip and thought it was a bit ridiculous that people wanted to see pictures like that of him...

I don't think there was a thing wrong with him going shirtless on a beach in Hawaii and I don't understand how could that equate to not having dignity?

Google voter fraud 2000, voter fraud 2004 and
The pubs have been down this road before.
yes, I asked you...but I asked you a specific question...
about the peace movement. I asked why you did not take your ideals to the real enemies of peace...and your answer was that you leave them to God but will instead preach to us not to fight them, even when they bring the fight to us. So be it.

We will agree to disagree.

I did not personally call you a whiner. As to who sent the military...I will say one thing. When you join the military, you take an oath. That oath has been posted here. You are under no illusions. You know that you may be called to war. It is an all voluntary army over there now. There is no draft. No one is over there because they were forced to go.

As to the people sending having never been...what has that got to do with anything? It was not just George Bush and Dick Cheney, Lurker. It was Congress. Many in Congress do have relatives, even sons and daughters, in Iraq. Have you read the resolution? It is very clear. They knew exactly what they were signing and exactly what it meant. I do not buy the lied to hooey. The Senate and House intelligence committees got the same briefings, or at least enough briefings to vote for the resolution. If they did not (in their own words) use due diligence before signing off on that resolution, whose fault is that? Certainly not Dick Cheney's or George Bush's.

Where were all these people when Clinton was calling for regime change? Because he was a Democrat they will follow him to war? You will see why I do not buy into their rhetoric.

And while I understand your big picture, as I have said over and over and you have never addressed, that will work only if the others in the big picture wish it to work. And if you honestly feel that God wishes that you lay down and let this country be overrun by terrorists, then so be it. I am not of the same mind.

The big difference is that I believe, as did Americans at the time of the Revolution, and that Americans did at the time of the Civil War...and that even some Americans did at the time of Viet Nam...some things are worth dying for. Most of our volunteer military feels the same.

When that is no longer the case, if you are successful in robbing that sense of patriotism from the generations to come without changing the minds of the enemies, where they feel that nothing is worth dying for...in my mind that will only bring death quicker, not keep it at bay, and the loss of the greatest nation on the face of this earth.

So, we agree to disagree.

God bless.
Bush just the front man
I agree that Bush is not the brains behind his administration and just the front guy..Cheney, however, scares the dickens out of me.  Do you see how he talks..teeth clenched, just out of the side of his mouth.  This guy is neocon in flashing letters..
Thanks for bringing this to the front...nm

On the healthcare front........sm

Nearly half the respondents in a survey of U.S. primary care physicians said that they would seriously consider getting out of the medical business within the next three years if they had an alternative.

Just goes to show the j@ckas@es/crooks running the show!
nm
It's on Fox News' front page
right now. That makes it true then, right?
I don't care who they stand in front of and...
what they say or if they wear dresses, tuxedos, or both at the same time, for that matter. the ceremony is not the problem. Anyone can hold any kind of ceremony they feel like having at any time. This is not what they are fighting for. As far as the law goes, I am all for any gay person marrying someone of the opposite sex--same right that I have.
When Ann Coulter gets in front of a mirror
there is no reflection. She's a bottom feeding, blood-sucking vamp, pale and gaunt, dark, depressed, pathologic and maniacal, allergic to the light of day, mistress of the shadowland and fairy princess to the furthest fringes, a dying breed, bound for extinction.
Bush WAS a "uniter" on one front:

Before he "liberated" those nonexistent WMDs from Iraq, Iran and Iraq were mortal enemies, which kept the region relatively quiet.

But thanks to Bush's occupation and war against Iraq, Iran and Iraq are now much friendlier with each other.

WTG, Bush!

I was trying to illustrate that you REFUSE to see what's in front of your face, that you must twi

it and turn it and manipulate it until it becomes something completely different and ugly, and you adopt THAT as the truth, when it isn't even close to what the real truth is.

Three fingers are three fingers.  Nothing more.  Nothing less.  No hidden meaning.  Just three fingers that the rest of the sane, intelligent, reasonable WORLD sees and recognizes as THREE FINGERS, as I said in my post.

And I as well. especially those on the front line...the mayors...the governors...
and at the federal level as well...it will take all of them. This is somewhere where party lines need to disappear. This is where we all need to pull together.
It wasn't condescending, and the man in front of him was nodding...
I had heard of them but certainly not to the extent I know about them now. I am sure there are lots of people in the US who had no clue who Fannie/Freddie were.
Wasn't that a front-page headline in the
n/msg
More like she thinks she should be the one up front giving the speech.
That would have been great to see Obama turn around and smack that simpy smirk off her face. She wanted to make sure she got her camera time because she thinks she's more important. I can't stand that woman!
Beck says - almost every show - that he is NOT doing a news show.
He does an opinion show - meaning HIS opinion. As such, he's entitled to stick pins in little Obama dolls for all I care.

I can hear Chris Wallace laughing at you folks from here because it's pretty obvious whoever wrote that knows zip about Beck, or Wallace for that matter. In fact, I can't think what Wallace has to do with Beck anyway. Everyone of INTELLIGENCE who watches Beck and Wallace is perfectly aware that one does one type of show and the other does another.

But what do you expect from one of George Soros' puppet sites like Media Matters and Move Bowels.org?

You really should delete your Favorites list and start over.

not a commentator. Why don't you post the link to the clip so everyone can decide?
Show me who your friends are and I’ll show you who you are.’
This subject is not old, and is very, very relevant.

Obama's friends/associates (supposedly former friends and associates, only since this campaign):

Ayers

Wright

Dorhn

Michelle

Khalidi

The company he keeps:

I find it very, very troubling, that this man has no visible friends, other than the ones above (not Michelle, although she has been kept under lock and key out of public sight for some time now, so as to keep her from embarrassing herself again).

Does this man not have any other friends/associates, other than the ones above?
sorry, picture did not take...

picture not there
but I have seen it elsewhere. speaks volumes, doesn't it? Everyone else on that podium had their hands on their hearts, his were at his side.
Get this picture
You are absolutely correct, I don't want anything shoved down my throat and nothing will be.  My question is when you see anything on the politics board that even remotely mentions religion, why not just click off of it and don't go about reading it much less posting a reply?  When our religious beliefs affect our political views, why on earth would we not be allowed to express those opinions? You certainly don't have to agree.   I certainly have no problem with atheists, agnostics or whatever posting their lack of religious views that affect their political views.  It seems to me that non-believers protest way too much about something they don't believe in.
OMG - thanks a lot, now that's all I have a picture of LOL
HA HA HA HA HA

Piper Laurie sure was good in that roll though.
The Voter
The voter...that is where the shoe leather hits the carpet.
The picture is even bigger than you think.

More smoke and mirrors from Bush.

This is cute & I can picture him saying something like that...sm
Just reading thru some posts on here now. I guess I missed quite a bit. I have started on a new account and it is taking me 12 hours instead of 8 to get my lines.
what IS wrong with the picture?
I'm not watching TV and I don't know exactly what you are referring too, but is SP supposed to land in the midst of the hurricane, instead of Fairbanks, in order to be a good person??
you could ask for a picture ballot

so you don't get confused and vote for a horse or something.

You really need to look at the bigger picture
Of course you care about your interest rate on your home, but neither candidate is going to 'solve' this horrific crisis, because there is no ONE reason for it! It is very complicated but as Americans, its our responsibility to TRY to understand it better so that we can demand the right course of actioN from ALL parties involved.

ONE FACT: When wages are stagnant an economy cannot grow - and that DEFINITELY is playing into what is happening in the financial crisis. Ask yourself which candidate is for INCREASING wages and fighting for equal pay for women and men...

Don't depend on SAM or anyone else to help you decide, use the power of the internet to educate yourself.

IF you like war and bleeding the treasury to ensure we have more of it, and more enemies to boot, then McCain is your man.

Im not enamoured of Obama either, so I'm not selling him to you either. That said, he ALWAYS opposed Bush's fake war - which has cost us HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS. Gee, where could we have put that $ to better use? Remember IRAQ did not attack us in 2001; the majority of attackers came from SAUDI ARABIA.

Why? Because they demanded we remove our military bases from their lands and we did not comply. After they attacked us, we attacked Iraq and guess what? WE MOVED THE MILITARY BASES TO IRAQ to appease Saudi Arabia.

Think this has nothing to do with you getting a good rate on your new home?

THINK AGAIN. As long as Americans choose their leaders based on cute lines in debates, we are destined to be robbed again and again and again.

You must look at WHAT THEY WILL DELIVER based on their past record. MCCain will give you more of the last 8 years.

But again, that's my opinion. Please care enough to do your own research, which you will believe more than anything a stranger tells you anyway.

need to view the big picture
Gut reaction is to say let the fail. I was not in favor of the bailout as proposed; however, common sense tells me that there has to be some plan. It isn't a question of stocks falling; it is a question of the economic structure of the US failing completely. I do want to save their "greedy banker butts" (to use your words) but you need to think of the bigger picture. You talk about a drop in stock, retirement, possible lower value of your home and no loan for college. How about drop in stock and savings and checking and everything to zero. How about losing your home, not having a job, not being able to afford food or clothing? Do you understand the consequence of no fix to this problem goes way beyond "bailing out their greedy banker butts." It is just not wall street here, it is the entire American economy.
boy, this really paints the picture of

Did you see the picture of O at his ceremony?
Creeped me out.  I recall no president having a big picture of himself.  Reminded me of Hitler and Sadam Hussein times.
Lets look at the big picture

Seems like each time a president leaves office everyone "hems and haws" at the list of people they pardon (especially those who dislike whatever president is leaving office).  Every exiting president has had their list of people who should never have received pardons.  Some yes, like first time offenders, people arrested for mairjuana, or caught turning back odometers, etc).

Maybe you should have also posted the list of people Clinton pardoned.  All you said was "he pardoned some nice ones too".  You make it sound  like GW is pardoning hardened criminal while BC only pardoned some people who did petty crimes.  Even though you didn't say that, by saying "he pardoned some nice ones too" it takes away from the seriousness of the people he did pardon.  But since you didn't post Clinton's pardons I will.  Now before anyone throws a fit because I know a lot of you think Clinton is the best thing since sliced bread, I'm just posting to show that he pardoned as many creeps as Bush is.  (BTW - I didn't, have never, and do not support Bush - can't stand the guy, but at let's try to keep it honest here).  Oh and my favorites are the money launderers, income tax evaders, bank fraud, conspiracy to defraud the government, issuing worthless checks, bank fraud, etc - all those things that helped to start bringing our economy down).  Those and Roger Clinton, Marc Rich, and Susan McDougal,  I did notice how he pardoned a lot of people who lied, but then again that was Clinton's whole 8 years in office - one lie after another, so doesn't surprise me he pardoned people who lied under oath.

You said something in regards to food stamps...look at #22 on Clintons list - Unauthorized use and transfer of food stamps.  I found an interesting article called "10 Heated Presidential Pardons" that goes back to George Washington.  I'll post the link.  All I'm saying here is that each president throughout our history has pardoned some pretty bad people that should not be pardoned.  GW is no different and no more worse than any of the previous.  Here's the article - an interesting read.

What is wrong with this picture?????
*It's a very complicated bill. People in congress obviously don't even understand it.*???? People in congress WROTE this bill, how can they not understand it? How in the world can they vote for it? How can you ask someone to accept it when you are saying the very people who wrote it do not know what is in it, let alone understand it???
WE do get the big picture, which is why we care about
x
Looking at a smaller picture...
While the government money is going to bail out AIG and for pork programs, here in Pennsylvania, Philadelphia is closing libraries and pools, cutting firefighters and police. And they are still looking a huge deficit and intend to raise property taxes 18% this year. Low and lower middle class people who are already struggling, who are looking at the grim possibility of losing their jobs, are now being hit with that. And whether they own or rent makes no difference; if the taxes go up, their rent will go up.

But, oh boy, it's much more important to keep AIG going and to invest in "green programs" for clean energy. What good is any of that going to do for the soon-to-be-homeless people of Philadelphia?

Obama voter here sm

Frankly I do not see much good coming from the policies of the last 8 years. An out of sight deficit, home foreclosures, terrible price hikes and job losses, I can;t see the pluses in these. Has Iraq made us safer? My gut tells me no. If there had, in fact been weapons of mass destruction than I would feel differently. I think what has matterd the most protecting the US have been more careful survellience domestically in the form of airline survelliences and the like.

I think Obama has the potential to make some positive changes, domestically and worldwide as well. While there is no guarantee of that I really don't feel that McCain will do to much except to continue more or less to promote the same policies as in the last eight years. We can do better than that. The post 9/11 politics of fear are eating the country alive economically.  While there is never a guarantee that another terrorist attack will not occur, as they do every so often world-wide,  I think it is foolish to sink your economy and play on the fears of its people on the remote chance that another one 'might occur someday.'

I like the message of hope and change that Obama speaks of, and if elected I hope that he is able to achieve some of his goals.

So voter suppression OK by you?
Being one of those that got misdirected and lost 3 hours of my time, I can tell you I didn't appreciate it one bit. Hope they bring charges against the creep.
Can we say voter suppression? (sm)

CNN just reported in Raleigh, NC-- people standing in line for 2 hours, and opps, all the sudden there are no ballots....there they are.....they are wet and will not go through the machine, so just put those to the side and we'll run them later.

Flyers going out saying if you are a dem then voting day is Nov 5.

If you are in college your parents will get taxed if you vote at school.

There seems to be a HUGE list of this kind of stuff.  And who benefits from a lower voter turnout?  Hmmm.

Voter Suppression is Right!
The Black Panthers were just blocking the doors of a polling site in Philadelphia.

Can't we all just get along? LOL

According to Rush, one voter who was
ex-military and had to push through the 2 of them earlier was told that the "black people were going to win the election."
No, all voter registration were not and still have not
nm
What is that BACKWARDS VOTER?
hahaha
Voter's remorse....sm
Does anyone know anybody who regrets who they voted for?

My husband was talking to his 25-year-old son the other day on the phone, and they touched upon the election. We know for a fact that he was an Obama supporter in the summer. He has also been in college for over six years, and acts like he's been brainwashed sometimes, by all his college professors.

Be that as it may.....DH asked DS who he voted for. DS hesitated for well over a minute....finally said he voted Libertarian. DH asked him who the Libertarian presidential candidate was, as DH said he didn't remember....DS said it was...Ralph Nader.....(who was Independent, not Libertarian...)

Now, we are fairly certain DS lied to his father about who he voted for. Why he lied, we are not certain about. Could be he just didn't want to admit to his father that he voted for Obama, because quite frankly, all the way through to November, he couldn't even coherently tell us why he supported Obama, just the familiar hope and change line, with no real substance as his usual reply.

Anyhoo.....then I got to thinking, that maybe he really wished he hadn't voted for Obama, but still woudn't tell his father that......still don't know for sure....

Interesting, though, to say the least.......
Every voter should read this.

First, let me say this testimony by a Cal State professor of economics pertaining to the proposed "cap-and-trade" program isn't light reading, but it isn't very long or overly technical, either. It's only a little over 3 pages, double-spaced with generous margins, and takes less than 10 minutes to read, especially since the whole first page is taken up with the economist's credentials and background which you can skip if you wish.

Second, we have to bring a certain mental framework to things like this, which I compare to digging the meat out of a walnut shell.  People like this don't typically use the kind of sensational language that we're accustomed to hearing on the news, and they tend to be rather polite and very low-key in the way they say things, especially when they're addressing a Congressional committee.

So nothing here is "bolded" or "underlined" in the way it's expressed, and ordinary reader like ourselves can easily miss the significance of what this economist is trying to tell the committee, which - if you want to cut right to the chase - is that "cap-and-trade" will destroy our economy.  Now, the economist uses somewhat less drastic terms but only SLIGHTLY less so, and if you simply think about the consequences of his predictions (which he expects the committee members to do), his meaning is quite clear.

Cap-and-trade is admittedly INTENDED to make energy costs higher, on the theory that higher prices will induce reductions in energy use, hence pollution, etc., etc.  While this might sound like a good theory (odd, though, that those who support it are the very same people who laugh at "trickle-down" economics, which is exactly what this is, in reverse), it actually hides new taxes that consumers will ultimately pay for either directly or in the form of higher prices for literally everything because every good and every service includes an energy cost of one sort or another (and that, in turn, will also mean another layer of increased tax because you pay a higher sales tax when the price of anything goes up - a double whammy, in other words). At 8%, something that costs you $10 today = $10.80.  If the price goes up to $15, you pay $16.20 - which is not only a 50% increase in the price, but also a 50% tax increase on that item.  (It's critical to learn to think in percentages, and also to learn how prices are related to taxes!)

Cap-and-trade may just be the most horrendous idea ever to come down the pike.  This economist thinks so, calling it the "most anti-consumer" idea proposed to any Congress in our history.  This has nothing whatsoever to do with any political party.  It's simply another example of the absolute madness that seems to grip Washington these days - and members of both parties are afflicted with this insanity.

So, as always, here's the link for those who wish to paste it into their browsers, and it's also in the clickable link below.  This is a PDF file and I can assure you that there's no virus risk.

The picture is obviously symbolic & it's apparent to me why they did it. sm
This was an event so emotional that it seems to have welded shut the minds of many Americans. People have shut off their natural curiosity to know what really happened on that fateful day. Have you seen The Matrix? It's a red pill - blue pill choice. Take the blue pill and wake up in the morning and everything is the same as its always been- comfortable. Take the red pill and you see how deep the rabbit hole goes. Many Americans have chosen the blue pill- they don't want to know the truth, just feed them info that confirms what they've already been told and that's good enough.

So, I think the picture is a little more than someone with a little too much time on their hands.
I saw the picture, Kaydie...the B is backwards!
The police have serious doubts about her story, as well. You are very gullible!
