And the nice little topping on the cake

Hi, GP.

I had posted this a few days ago; it's down the page somewhere, but, in true Bush style, he is taking care of his "base" right up until the end.  I apparently failed to provide the link when I posted it, but anyone interested can just Google the title below, and multiple links will pop up.

I'm thinking the "trickle up" theory is how things SHOULD be.  ALLOW the little guy at the bottom to be ABLE to afford a 1989 clunker; allow the guy who's a little above that to be ABLE to afford maybe a 2000 Chevy Cavalier, and ALLOW the guy who's standing on the next rung of the ladder upward to buy a new Mustang.  The guys who are standing at the top can still afford their Porsches and Benzes, but EVERYONE would have access to some things in life that most of us feel are essentials, not luxuries.  Probably won't be too many new American cars to buy, though, because there isn't a level playing field when it comes to "free trade."  I personally think this whole "free trade" thing should be scrapped and reinvented so that it benefits American CITIZENS and not just American EXECUTIVES.

Instead of sneaking a little "P.S." in the middle of the night like Bush did to make sure his rich criminal buddies get their bonuses, why NOT start the "trickle-up" program and make them work for their bonuses?

"Trickle down" simply doesn't work because nothing is "trickling."  The greediest at the top (Bush's base) are the ones who are benefiting, and the most needy (formerly known as the "middle class" and Obama's "base") are being stomped on BIG TIME.

Frequently, this whole mess reminds me of the movie "Trading Places," where two rich old men play with and manipulate the lives of two people and create havoc -- all for a ONE-DOLLAR BET.  If it didn't feel and sound so familiar to what Americans are experiencing today, it might even be funny.  Instead, it feels like we're all being manipulated on a much more sinister level.

I think someone should force Bush, Cheney, Paulson and a few other "elites" on Wall Street to empty their pockets before they leave Washington, since one of the conditions of the Wall Street bailout was that it would all be done in secret, with no transparency, and no list of the recipients of what is now trillions of dollars.

I can remember my mortgage when trickle down Reaganomics was going strong.  The interest was 16-1/2%.  This is how we got here.  Time to trickle up.

Bush Administration created executive pay loophole

John Byrne
Published: Monday December 15, 2008

The Bush Administration inserted an eleventh-hour provision into the $750 billion bailout bill to protect executive bonuses, a single sentence that will torpedo efforts to reduce bonuses even as companies slash tens of thousands of jobs and use taxpayer money to gobble up other companies at fire-sale prices.

Pressured by constituents who worried that companies would take government aid and continue to pay their executives eye-popping bonuses, Congress inserted a provision that would penalize companies who took taxpayer money and shelled out outsized bonuses.

But at the last minute, Bush officials insisted on a one-sentence provision that stopped the measure in its tracks, according to congressional aides who spoke to the Washington Post.

The change stipulated that the sanction would only apply to firms that sold mortgage backed securities to the government at auction, which the Bush Treasury Department said would be the method they'd use to infuse troubled companies with bailout cash.

"Now, however, the small change looks more like a giant loophole, according to lawmakers and legal experts" who spoke to Post reporter Amit Paley. "In a reversal, the Bush administration has not used auctions for any of the $335 billion committed so far from the rescue package, nor does it plan to use them in the future. Lawmakers and legal experts say the change has effectively repealed the only enforcement mechanism in the law dealing with lavish pay for top executives."

"The flimsy executive-compensation restrictions in the original bill are now all but gone," Sen. Charles Grassley, a Republican from Iowa and ranking member of the Senate Finance Committee, told Paley.

According to Paley, "The final legislation contained unprecedented restrictions on executive compensation for firms accepting money from the bailout fund. The rules limited incentives that encourage top executives to take excessive risks, provided for the recovery of bonuses based on earnings that never materialize and prohibited 'golden parachute' severance pay. But several analysts said that perhaps the most effective provision was the ban on companies deducting more than $500,000 a year from their taxable income for compensation paid to their top five executives."

This amendment to the Internal Revenue Code was the only part of the bailout measure that had an explicit enforcement mechanism.

Bush officials initially opposed executive compensation rules. Banks, in particular, had been taking heat for "golden parachute" cases, where top executives received lavish pay upon their departure even if they'd done a poor job leading their company.

It remains unclear whether the Administration ever intended to limit executive pay -- if perhaps they knew in advance that Treasury didn't intend to buy mortgage assets at auction all along -- as they'd told Congress.

Except for that the yellow cake
documents were a forgery. Whether anybody knew his wife was covert or not, the Niger yellowcake documents were a forgery. And that is part of the reasoning they used to to get us into the War. Its a real mess no doubt about it. Murky I guess would be a good word for it.
The conservatives want to have their cake and eat it too...sm
It's OK for a church to be prowar and not lose their exempt status, but not against it. Hypocrisy is reeking.

Stuff like this is the reason there is a separation between church and state to begin with. Give it an inch and we all lose.
"Let them eat cake." sm
That was what Marie Antoinette said to the peasants. And what happened to her?? She lost her head. Eventually the little people will get some of theirs back...I just hope I am still around to see it happen.
Takes the cake is right,
as well as the mixer and bowl, the cake pan and oven.  You can keep the empty box, however....
This takes the CAKE (& icing)!

If this man will lie about a GI bracelet, what WON'T he lie about?  Come on, y'all! Wake up!

I didn't copy the entire thing (no no, right?).  It appears that you'd have to go to the site to download it.  Keep an eye out to see if the drivebys (ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, NPR, NYT, etc.) mention it.  I'm hoping they'll have no choice.  There will be a ton of crying and hand wringing beforehand, you can be sure if it ever happens at all.

Family Told Obama NOT To Wear Soldier Son's Bracelet... Where is Media?
By Warner Todd Huston
September 28, 2008

Barack Obama played the "me too" game during the Friday debates on September 26 after Senator John McCain mentioned that he was wearing a bracelet with the name of Cpl. Matthew Stanley, a resident of New Hampshire and a soldier that lost his life in Iraq in 2006. Obama said that he too had a bracelet. After fumbling and straining to remember the name, he revealed that his had the name of Sergeant Ryan David Jopek of Merrill, Wisconsin.
Shockingly, however, Madison resident Brian Jopek, the father of Ryan Jopek, the young soldier who tragically lost his life to a roadside bomb in 2006, recently said on a Wisconsin Public Radio show that his family had asked Barack Obama to stop wearing the bracelet with his son's name on it. Yet Obama continues to do so despite the wishes of the family.
Radio host Glenn Moberg of the show "Route 51" asked Mr. Jopek, a man who believes in the efforts in Iraq and is not in favor of Obama's positions on the war, what he and his ex-wife think of Obama continually using their son's name on the campaign trail.
Jopek began by saying that his ex-wife was taken aback, even upset, that Obama has made the death of her son a campaign issue. Jopek says his wife gave Obama the bracelet because "she just wanted Mr. Obama to know Ryan's name." Jopek went on to say that "she wasn't looking to turn it into a big media event" and "just wanted it to be something between Barack Obama and herself." Apparently, they were all shocked it became such a big deal.
But, he also said that his ex-wife has refused further interviews on the matter and that she wanted Obama to stop wearing the reminder of her son's sacrifice that he keeps turning into a campaign soundbyte. This begins at about 10 minutes into the radio program. (Download radio show HERE)    (H/T D. Keith Howington of www.dehavelle.com)

Can't have your cake and eat it too, don't you want your husband, son, daughter...sm
etc. to be paid what they are worth, to be paid enough they can save up and buy a home AND make the mortgage and insurance payments? Afford to feed their family without food stamps? We area a family of five, homeowners, trying to help our eldest with student loans to become a teacher, live VERY modestly, work overtime whenever we can, drive well-used cars that we OWN, and some weeks we have to put off buying medication or shampoo because we spent the family budget until the next paycheck. More working people, able to be consumers paying taxes, is one of the long-term fixes to any economy, we are not all George Bush's Halliburton and corportate/oil buddies, Japan made its working force world class by implementing higher wages, providing better benefits to workers, etc. America is way behind the times, and that is why we are in a boatload of trouble.
"Chocolate frosting on white cake......
will still be white cake. That's not change in Washington, now is it?"

Question from me.....this is just some words, just a phrase, isn't it?

But.......if McCain said this, and maybe then said something thereafter about the Obama/Biden ticket, or the dem's plan, or whatever, do you think anybody would cry foul? Or do you think it would be a joke? Or do you think it would be called racist?

I wonder...

I'm sure some of you are calling me racist for even thinking it, but it's just a phrase, isn't it? Or is it......

Actually, just read an article that says Palin is supposed to be the lipstick, McCain is the pig. So it was a double whammy at both of them.

And as far as McCain saying this phrase first last year at Hillary? Well, not nice either, but I betcha he apologized...nowhere, anywhere, nohow, is Obama going to apologize.
NOPE.OBAMA.TAKES.THE.CAKE.
George Bush was a better President on his worst day than Obama has been on his best day. Period. End of song.
There was more outrage over the Dan Rather forgery than the yellow cake documents..sm
Pretty much sums up the state of affairs we find ourselves in.
Not nice.
Of course conservatives are wrong.  And often.  I am one, so I should know.  What I am NOT is a neocon.  That word gets used a lot here and it is used incorrectly.   I am not the original poster but I wanted to point that out.
Really nice, isn't it?
Not all of them are gone, but a lot were removed.  Smells a lot better on the Liberal Board today, though it probably won't last.
It's really nice to have you here.
As you can see, you may also be called names on this board, as well.  The monitor has asked that they stop, but they continue to do it.  If they begin to attack you here, I hope you will just consider the source, laugh it off and continue to post here because they aren't important and certainly don't represent the majority of normal Americans.
Exactly....have a nice day. :) nm

nice

When a woman gets attacked by a man with knife, do you condemn her because she didn't fight back hard enough?I say condemn the attacker, not the attackee....you attack folks and then condemn them because there feelings where hurt instead of addressing the real problem which is your bullying.

Nice try, but no....
I started posting here about 3 years ago, and there was no observer but me. If there was one before that, I had no way of knowing that. Taiga did not "steal" Teddy's moniker. They were always the same person, just posting under two different monikers. I have posted under two...Independent for awhile, and then Observer. Observer was not in use when I changed to that moniker, and if there was one before my time...as I stated...I have no way of knowing that. Again...did not accuse Taiga of stealing the Teddy moniker. She posted under both.
Nice. (sm)
Fortunately your opinion on this subject means nothing to me. Those who want to pray will. Those who don't, won't. It is a free country, and while no one can force you to pray, no one can force us not too either. Much as you would like to have that control. What a myopic view of life you have. Party line vote Dem or die and dam* anyone who doesn't agree with you. Sounds decidedly UNdemocratIC to me.
nice try

This comes from the same pinheads who were absolutely certain that Rush would go outta business when Clinton got elected.  Yeah, right!  20 million listeners at least, and HOW many hundreds of millions later?

And y'all actually think Keith Overbite & Mr. Potato Head actually discuss news seriously when 1 has crabs or something crawling up his leg?  And give up the opiates re Rush.  He fixed that problem, but didn't do the resume enhancement like the celebutards do.  Start that empty crap & I'll just keep listing their names.

And just to clarify things, in case anyone didn't catch the post about the NAGS, that's Rush's pet name for the National Assn of GalS.  I knew I wasn't the only Dittohead on the embarrassment of a board.

Face it. Y'all have nothing to offer here, just empty insults and thrills over women "choosing" to kill babies.  That's the only definition y'all have of "choice."  Funny, but I thought choice was supposed to mean that the woman decided either way. Nice try once again.

nice try....but NOT

I take you comparing me to Sam as a compliment though as I do value a lot of the same opinions.

However, once again, instead of actually coming on with facts and trying to prove an actual point, I find someone who just spats out anything.  I was not the one who started this post.  I was just stating my opinion and sharing some experiences I've had raising horses and what has happened in the past when deer hunting was not allowed.  Those are things that I have seen first hand.

That would be nice!

Doubt that will happen, but my husband and I could pay off the house we just built, have money for the kids college education, etc.

oh come on... he seems like a nice
and he wants change.... give him a break... LOL.....

I'M WITH YOU!!! PEOPLE ARE SO INTO HEARING WHAT THEY WANT TO HEAR THAT THEY ARE BLIND!!!!!!
nice
from yet another who cannot back up what exactly obama stands for besides "change"... hmmm

there was nothing psychotic about her post.
It would be nice
there was help for those who help themselves.... not just help themselves to handouts.
That might be nice, but don't look to

Nice Try

Our economy is in a bad way, so what does "O" do?  Raise taxes!  What on earth are y'all thinking!  So taking $ from you to give to someone else makes sense?

This is comparable to the women who went totally nuts over the Beatles!

Check your taxes for 2007, 2008, then 2009.  The facts will speak for themselves.

Just more white guilt, too, which is also pitiful.

that sure was nice!

Nice try

Yeah, that so-called nutjob recently signed another long-term contract (7 years, I believe) for how many millions?

I never miss his show.

Have you ever actually listened to his show?  You'd like his official Obama Criticizer, Bo Snerdley.  You can find clips on google.

When I got married, we used his theme song to announce the wedding party at the reception

You just said she was nice. Why don't you
accept her as she is then if she is a nice person.  Maybe she wants to raise her baby is a safe place.  I live in Arizona and the only illegal immigrants I have a problem with are the drug dealers who bring their dope across the border.
its nice to see him in an

informal setting.  Every pol goes for a photo op once in a while, just to remind you they are around.  I enjoy seeing him smile and interact with people.  He makes me smile.  God Bless America, how fortunate we are to have him at this time in history.

nice try
I dont think so.  I am an American.  As a matter of fact I was a soldier and I helped defend this country.  So dont even try to tell me that I am not American and I should leave just because I don't like or agree with the present administration.  Do I hope that Obama will be all that people need?  Sure.  Do I think he will do it?  No.  That has nothing to do with my American pride or heritage.  This country was founded on many things that are not in effect today and I dont have to blindly support things that are blatantly wrong with our government.  Most politicians are liars and crooks and our government is not a representation of our country.  Our country is hard working American people who have built this land up based on dreams, faith, hard work, and pride.  Our government is supposed to answer to us, not us to them.  You have the wrong idea and should not categorize people based on whether they like Obama or not.  That is why we VOTE and have the FREEDOM to choose who we want in OUR office.
Thank you. Nice to know I'm not alone
I liked Sarah Palin a lot and was the main reason I was leaning more towards their camp. I actually kept going back and forth. I liked Obama, then I liked Sarah, then I liked Obama, then I liked Sarah. I could not make up my mind. But I liked Gov. Palin a lot. Washington needed a new face. Someone not on the inner circles and corrupted by Washington politicians/lobbyists. She said things as she saw them. She was the only one out of all of them who had the qualifications. She was a governor and knows how to balance a budget. If she believed in something she stuck to it. She didn't give in and say one thing then run over to a different group and say another thing. Like some people did. You want to talk about experience? Obama had less experience than she did. As for her saying things and making mistakes. Nobody has a right to say anything about that because your all okay with Biden saying the most @ssnine things. You didn't like that she carried her baby around, but you were okay with Biden carrying around his grandson everywhere (talk about an obvious prop). He'd look around for the camera then grab his grandson and make sure the camera saw him carrying him. I liked the way Sarah spoke. She spoke the truth and to the point. Sorry it's not fancy/sleezy enough for the Washington crowd. She/McCain had ideas for how to get the people back working again. Now look what we've got. Someone who just keeps telling us its going to get worse, passed a bill that creates no jobs for the country and nothing to stimulate the economy, and is punishing the people who are hard working and trying to survive. Just more money for them to line the pockets of the politicians. But then again it doesn't matter what we thought because the people have no control over who is elected. Obama had been selected a long time before the election even began.

I liked Sarah Palin and I don't care what anyone says. She was a real human being. You can slam me all you want. Sure there were other candidates I would have supported, especially every time Biden spoke. He's puts his foot in his mouth every time he speaks and it's becoming more and more evident this guy is either going senile or truly does not know what he is doing. No wonder why the WH keeps him behind locked doors.

But it's all a double standard. People say she didn't have experience, don't vote for her, we have to have someone with experience. Then when it's brought up about Obama's lack of experience (i.e. no experience) we hear. You gotta give the guy a chance. They trashed her personal life, but when anyone spoke about Obama's personal life they were told don't talk about his personal life it has nothing to do with his being president. When people said, you can't bring Palin in, she's not Washington, she's an outsider, but when they were told well Obama is new and he hasn't been in Washington very long himself (i.e. no experience) and has been in Illinois most of his life we were told we need a fresh face in Washington. When we brought up Palin's balancing the budget we were met with Obama got a bunch of people registered to vote. You just can't win. None of what I wrote pertains to anyone on this board, it's what was in the news. And I was watching MSNBC during the election because I was voting democrat, but was interested in Palin. And the best of them all was when people were asked "So you're voting for Obama because of his policies? and they answered yeah, then when asked "So if Obama is elected President you wouldn't mind Sarah Palin as the VP?" And they all said "No, I think she'd make a fine VP". HA HA HA. What's that Master card commercial where at the end it says "Priceless".
Nice try, but once again
no cigar.
It would be nice if EVERYBODY would

follow the rules of this board, but some apparently think they are above the rules.

The two posters you pointed out are not the only ones who call other posters names, especially in the last week or so that I've noticed, but the instead of falling into the argumentative mode, you need to ignore their posts.

It is nice to know that our

economy is in ruins, we have spies interfering with our electronic grid, our president bows to the Saudi King, every country still hates us even with Obama's major butt kissing and you are concerned about Levi and Bristol?  Who cares.  How many teenagers really stay together even when there is a baby involved?  This isn't a matter of national security.  It is a teenage girl who screwed her boyfriend and got knocked up and then they broke up.  Like that never happens anywhere else in the world.

I personally couldn't care less if Levi and Bristol broke up.  Who cares?  If you like teenage drama, you might want to watch the N channel and get your fill with Degrassi or something and keep this nonsense off the political board.

nice..
very Christian of you saying her husband is as messed up as she is. showing your true colors.
It would have been nice if instead of
just throwing our country under the bus and calling us arrogant and apologizing if he would have also listed the good things that we have done for other countries.  Instead he just says that we are arrogant and apologizes and blames Bush.  Our country has done a lot of good things for others too.  Why does Obama constantly focus on the bad things.  Does he think that constantly bringing up bad things will make people like us more?  He is really naive and stupid if he thinks that.  If Obama really wanted to move forward, he needs to stop the blame game and MOVE ON!  This is his administration now....not Bush's.  Yes, Obama inherited a mess but I don't see him doing much cleaning up of this mess.  I see what he is doing as making things worse.....not better and that isn't Bush's fault.
Aw, that's so nice! =)
See? People with differing opinions CAN get along on this board - just have some respect for each other like these two posters.

You are both an example for the rest to follow.
Nice try....almost...(sm)

Sending pics as proof?  That's hilarious....I'm absolutely sure they would be of you...ROFL.

Sorry, but your little ploy to make it look like that was an acceptable joke to the black community is just simply not working.

Maybe you should do some research next time.

he looks like a really nice guy, too...
I am reminded of an old friend's mom years ago saying "I just don't know what's to become of us all".
Now that wasn't nice. SM
What am I SAYING! I am on the liberal board!!! I'll leave you along. After all, this board is just hopping with interesting things to talk about.
Hi, there, Democrat!!! Nice to see you again!

With respect to the 10% tax, I still think $9,000,000 of disposable income goes a lot farther than $9,000, and 10% of $10,000,000 is just a drop in the bucket, compared to 10% of $10,000.

Anyway, my understanding of the "Fair Tax" is that it isn't based on income.  It's based on "consumption." It's (my paraphrasing) a federal sales tax instead of a federal income tax.  And spending up to the poverty level is tax-free, with their "fair tax rebate."

So if someone can afford to buy that 2006 Ferrari, they can also afford to pay the tax.  If someone can only afford a $500 1989 Mitsubishi, they will probably not have to pay any tax if it is considered under the poverty level.

This only addresses federal government tax issues, though.  It doesn't even begin to touch state, county and local taxation.

And from what I've read, I haven't heard what percentage of tax they are proposing.

So I'm still not sure which I'm leaning towards.  I'm actually sort of swaying between the 10% and the "fair tax."

Nice to see you here, thanks for the invitation, and I agree.  We should debate here.

Pro-war..what a nice little spin
GT I could almost believe you were Cindy Sheehan yourself.  Heck, if I were George Soros, Howard Dean, or Michael Moore I'd snatch up as a publicist, a spokesperson in a heart beat.  You've sure got the rhetoric down pat.  I'm sure you will take this as a compliment but it's not meant that way.
What a nice group!!!!

Below is from the Protestwarrior website or else "RNC Watch":

Although the Protest Warriors usually make a big deal about how they have been the victims of leftist "violence," several of their recent bulletin board posts advocate carrying concealed weapons to demonstrations at the RNC. "I would bring pepper spray," writes one. "I will be utilizing my concealed weapons permit," writes another. "We should be prepared for violence," writes a third. These posts are similar to the infamous CraigsList NYC posting of more than a year ago in which a New Yoker wrote that "We need good old fashioned Conservatives, the kind that believe in God, Country, and Family (the Mom and Dad kind), the kind that played football, baseball, and basketball, to help with security [at the RNC]. This is totally separate from the organized Convention. We will meet the groups determined to disrupt the open discussion of ideas (the Convention) with a group of our own and battle them in the streets of New York."

You can also see picture of the founders of Protest Warriors lovingly cradling high-powered fire-arms on the PW website. "ProtestWarrior HQ is now heavily armed," the site operators write.

(Picture Caption: The Founder of Protest Warriors) Recently, a small media stir was created by a tiny, right-wing fringe group known as the Protest Warriors.

We recently drove out to San Angelo, TX to meet up with our good friend Chris, a Marine who offered to take us out shooting and teach us the finer points of peace through superior firepower.

Chris is one guy you do not want to f--k with.

Chris was kind enough to loan us some weapons to take back with us, so thanks to him ProtestWarrior HQ is now heavily armed. So to all the leftists that want to completely disarm the populace, all we have to say is come get some.

PostPosted: Wed Dec 17, 2003 4:22 pm Reply Be nice. LMAO.
xx
So nice to see you back!

I hope you had a great getaway.  Unfortunately, as you can see, nothing has changed here.  You continue to be attacked/stalked, even when you're not here!

I personally missed you and wish I DID know you in real life.  I'd be very proud to call you friend.  Anyway, I'm very glad to see you back and look forward to reading your posts because you always add something of value, unlike some people who only come here to be rude and start trouble. I'd say they were raised by wolves, but wolves have better manners and values.

Now, now, dear, it's not nice to lie.

 I said no such thing.

And one of the other voices in your head has already judged me and declared that the Rapture will pass me by, which is fine with me.  Would prefer to spend eternity with those who are nice, loving, kind and HAPPY.

It was very nice while it lasted.

Can't say I'm surprised, though.  They must be busting at the seams by now.

Nice web site
Very many thanks for a good work. Nice and useful. Like it!
Nice to meet you too! Welcome...nm

Nice rant....however...
look up perjury. Perjury is a lying UNDER OATH. A felony. Just plain old lying....like people do every day...just plain old lying. Just in case you did not know...when a President is sworn in he puts the hand on the Bible and swears to uphold the laws of the United States of America. Whoops!! So he not only perjured himself..he broke his oath. But no big deal...right? OF course not. You love generalities don't you? Liars like Bush and his ilk...I could say the same thing about Billary...liars and their ilk. They have both been caught in so many...as I am sure every other politician on the face of the earth.

Some of these posters remind me of the cliques in junior high who made fun of the fat kids or the kids in glasses, yada yada...same bullies, all grown up.

Sigh.
Nice video. Thanks Cat!!
