You can't count the number of Christians by the number of bodies in a church.

I do believe torture is a sin. Christians are called to "turn the other cheek" and to be "peace-makers". But in that same breath, we should also not be engaged in war, fighting, killing other humans, etc. That means that 40% of our military who claim to be Christians should not be in there! (http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=4772331).

I know you probably aren't for the war, but if ever war came on our soil, I bet that 40% would come in handy!

In a perfect world we as Christians would not be involved in anything of this nature, but this world is far from perfect. It's a fallen world, filled with evil, and, while we are not concerned with our lives hereafter, since we know where we are going, I believe many Christians fight to save the lives of those who are unsaved, so that they will get another day to have the opportunity to meet the Savior. You may not see it this way, I doubt you do, but for me, it's gut-wrenching every time I find out someone who wasn't saved has passed on, because I know what awaits them.

BUT we definitely don't see eye to eye on that so we won't go there today! :-D

One last thing however, and I think this is important for anyone who doesn't know Christ: You cannot judge Christ by his followers, because they are still sinful human beings prone to mistakes, who are trying to be like Him but usually fail miserably.

That's why we're so lucky to have a God of mercy! :)
