Oh I think that's a great idea
Great idea -

Make everyone's name known who votes for Obama and who votes for McCain (this board goes to show people will admit in public who they vote for), so once you have the list of names for everyone who votes for Obama, only their taxes get raised, for they deserve what they get. Leave the rest of us alone.

I think it is a great idea.
We need the best, most talented people in cabinet positions, not just the best partisans or the best friends or people who are owed favors.

This is one thing I like about Obama. He listens to people with varying opinions who are knowledgeable about a subject, not just those that agree his initial opinion.
That would be a great idea, but who

would audit them all? Man, that job would take forever and a day. I certainly would like to see it happen, but I think it's wishful thinking. I guarantee (sp), though, that most of them would be running scared.

I see this picture in my mind that this audit would be done and all of a sudden we have a budget surplus.

Great idea

Great idea, with just one addition:

Those who insist on not using the new board for its purpose and instead continue to do what they've been doing should receive some sort of sanction, maybe permanent banning, I don't know.

It seems another problem is that when THEY say something, it's not bashing, whereas ANYTHING we say is bashing as far as they're concerned.  I truly believe that a few misguided souls on this board truly don't believe they are doing anything wrong.  They are incapable of being objective, feel everything they say is fine, and if someone gets fed up and gives them a taste of their own medicine, they claim they're being attacked.

You could be the Virgin Mary incarnate, and if you dare to express your honest opinion on this board and do not blindly follow and worship Bush, then you're automatically a vile person.  Some days ago, Democrat invited one of them to offer a topic for debate, but that has yet to happen. Instead, the poster has, 100% of the time, chosen to bash other posters.

It's a great idea, GT, but the more I think about it, they aren't happy unless they can disrupt others who try to pursue intelligent, worthwhile, tolerant discussion.  They tell us to leave the conservative board and stay on our own board, and when we do and there isn't any more fighting on their board, they come here and start because they HAVE to have their fix of liberal bashing for the day.  The more I see it, the more it looks like a sick, twisted addiction.

I've made a list, and, unfortunately, it seems to be growing every day.  The ones who only want to insult and bash don't get a response from me any more.  In fact, I've stopped reading their posts because I already know it's more bashing, so it's a huge waste of time.

As far as ownership of the board, there just might be a new owner, because they no longer seem to favor one group of posters over another group as much, as seemed to be the case before.

But, hey, I'd love to be able to discuss issues in a friendly, respectful manner, and I'm in favor of anything that could promote that!

I think that's a great idea, Democrat.

I wonder how many would check off the Iraq war box!

Great idea, Lurker.
weren't any responses at the other board? As you say, they were/are gung ho about the war. Could it be some soldiers get more support than others? Would they be so supportive of these soldiers as well?

Immigrant Soldiers
by Chaleampon Ritthichai
01 May 2003

Even though his coffin was draped with the American flag, U.S. Marine Staff Sergeant Riayan Tejeda, 26, was not a U.S.citizen. Tejeda, who was killed in combat in Iraq, was a native of the Dominican Republic.

Eight years ago he joined the Marines after graduating from George Washington High School.

“I hope the United States will remember that my son died for this country,” his father Julio Tejada told Newsday.

Tejeda’s death has brought attention to stories of immigrants who fought for the U.S. military throughout history and the current controversy over their immigration status.

For immigrants, joining the military could lead to a faster track to citizenship, which allows them and their immediate family to reap the same benefits as native-born U.S. citizens.

In early 1990s, immigrant soldiers became eligible for citizenship after three years of legal residency, two years less than civilians. More than 3,600 immigrant soldiers became U.S. citizens from 1994 to 1999.

Last July, President Bush signed an executive order that temporarily allows immigrant soldiers to apply for citizenship immediately. Nearly 5,500 military personnel applied and some already got their citizenships.

There is no law prohibiting illegal immigrants from joining in the army but the armed forces representative says anyone without proper documents is rejected, according to a report in the New York Times.

Tejeda and at least six other U.S. servicemen killed in the war in Iraq had not yet become citizens. Six of these immigrants were granted citizenship posthumously but their relatives did not receive the benefits that would normally go to the families of the citizens.

“It is an honorary status in commemoration of the valor and the sacrifices of the deceased,” the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services explained in the memo.

More than 36,000 service members are non-citizens, making up about 5 percent of active duty service members. About a third come from Mexico and other Spanish-speaking countries and the rest are from China, Vietnam, Canada, Korea, India and other countries.

In New York City alone, 40 percent of Navy recruits were immigrants, 36 percent in the Marines and 27 percent in the Army.

Many are surprised by the number of non-citizens serving in the U.S. military but others say immigrants have always been a part of the military.

“Basically, both immigrants or non-citizens have served in the military since at least the Revolutionary war,” said University of Michigan Professor Cara Wong, who has been studying immigrants and war.

There were over 500,000 immigrants who fought in the Civil War. They were allowed to form their own units, elect their officers and speak their native tongues. “The Germans are true and patriotic,” said President Abraham Lincoln about the German immigrants volunteering to fight for the union army.

Some immigrant soldiers were even honored by the army for their bravery. During WWII Mexican born soldier Marcario Garcia, whose company was pinned down by the Nazis, fought his way out and, though wounded, was able to return with captured prisoners. Garcia was promoted to staff sergeant and awarded the Medal of Honor.

“The distinction between legal and illegal immigrants was non-existent until well after the Civil War,” said professor Wong.

The situation of non-citizen soldiers has caught the eyes of lawmakers in Washington D.C. Some are introducing bills that would shorten the waiting period to two years for foreign-born soldiers and others even argue for immediate citizenship for all immigrants on active duty in the armed forces.

But that did not happen soon enough for Tejeda. At his funeral, hundreds of people gathered to honor him at St. Elizabeth’s Church in Washington.

“He may never have been made officially a citizen of our nation,” said Mayor Michael Bloomberg. “But we are proud he was a citizen of New York.”

Spokesmen for Senator Charles Schumer and Representative Charles Rangel said that they are seeking citizenship posthumously for Tejada if his family desires.

An immigrant from Bangkok, Thailand, Chaleampon Ritthichai is the editor of The Citizen.
I have a great idea! I think the candidates should be...sm
hooked up to lie detectors during the debates.  Wouldn't that be interesting?
Very interesting,indeed, great idea! .. .
.
Hey, that sounds like a great idea,
us on our way. Oops, you wouldn't have a clue about morality, decency and common sense, though, Dem or Rep!
Great idea, Gourdpainter.

You're absolutely right about holding their feet to the fire, and writing to remind them of their promises and what we expect is a terrific idea.  Thank you for the link.

I wasn't anti-Bush until I began to see more clearly what he was really doing.  If I see the same things with Obama, I will probably be as anti-Obama as I am anti-Bush.  I'm registered "unaffiliated" because I owe no allegiance to ANY political party.

There is one thing, however, that leads me to believe Obama's presidency will be an exceptional one.  He is the first black (and white, though nobody sees that) President in history, so his burden is greater than any other President's.  If he does NOT do a good job, there won't ever be another opportunity for a second black President, just as if Hillary had won, her burden would have been greater, as well.

Either way, he made promises, and those promises are the reason I voted for him.

I've copied the link you provided to my "Favorites," and when I'm coherent enough (maybe three more cups of coffee), I, too, will send them a note.  Since this seems to be the campaign site, I hope they don't dismantle it too soon.  Thanks very much for posting it.

I LOVE IT!!!! WHAT A GREAT IDEA!!! nm

Great! Now I can't get out of my mind the idea
of this being endlessly analyzed as sportscasters do a football instant replay, then a re-replay, ad infinitum.  Must write some dialog for it when I have time, unless someone else......?
Yeah, that's a great idea....(sm)

We could lower ourselves to their standards and become just like them.  How awesome would that be?  Just think, with actions like that we might even get that Crusade you guys have been pushing for.

Note:  Doing the same thing that terrorists do makes us just like them.  Just because we do it out of revenge or in a different name, does not make us any better than them.  Jihad...Crusade...both believe they are right, so you tell me the difference.

Sounds like a great idea, Backwards Typist

But gently, gently...don't want to accidentally hurt her.

(LOL...I get the idea that she'd be kickin' OUR butts instead!!!)

What a great idea. Let's try a click open, click shut

Great, great post. Thank you, Marmann! nm

A better idea. SM
Make everyone register as many other sites do.  That way, you have to keep the sam identity.  As far as the rest, both sides are equally at fault.  Using the "They" term and the "You" term are shallow.  I doubt the board is under new management.  You allegation that posters got special treatment is another delusion.  But since you won't be responding to me, I guess I don't need to let that bother me.
You have know idea who or what *they* are. sm
I would not make such statements about something you know nothing about. You read a story, it said what you believed and you ran with it.  My gosh, how do you ever learn anything?   Do you think I judge all liberals by these people?  Freepers are large contributors to charities.  They have a race on now to get together donations for Katrina victims. They are huge supporters of the military.  I have been going to their site for years and I have never seen anyone threaten to kill anyone. But it's something you want to believe and so you will. It's too darn bad.  There are liberals who post there, too.  But, of course, you don't know that.
First of all, you have no idea what I would do
Clinton wasn't my favorite president but I have never hated him with the vitriol that you on the left have hated Bush.

As far as Lurker's thoughts about Bush they are assertions and not proven fact and I for one think they are hogwash--not to mention grossly, grossly over exaggerated.

Is that enough of an answer for you? Probably not...nothing is ever enough for you all.
I think I get where you get this idea
It's because all the baseless charges against Bush have truly been baseless. Let's talk about the void-of-actual-fact USA Today article about the so-called NSA release of private information. That has pretty much been debunked and exposed as yet another attempt to cast doubt on Bush. There are numerous other examples, and let's not forget *Rathergate*

Just because liberal journalists have a vendetta for this president and aren't smart enough to get anymore than forged documents to back up their reports does not mean the press has given the president a free pass. They just suck as journalists. That's not Bush's fault.
You have no idea.

but you have illustrated many points made about you here very well.  That isn't bashing, my dear, it's called truth.

Now that's an idea!!!
I'm all for that! She seems to be a real go-getter!!
I have no idea.

A friend of mine has been totally hot to trot on this story & has kept sending me stuff about it.  I haven't for obvious reasons.

I was reluctant to even post that on this board.  It's become so obnoxious here that I may as well be on one of the left-wing sites.

I've found a much more fun place to chat. Lots of conservatives and Libertarians, and much more interesting than this jazz over here.

I have no idea.........
Guess I was raised by *gasp* liberals............frankly, no-bah-dee's bidness, but it is disheartening to see gay couples who love each other who cannot make end-of-life decisions for each other or any of the other "benefits" that heterosexual couples take for granted.
Hey I have an idea for
Since he is going to make all these changes and what not, instead of starting new government programs, why doesn't he just take all the money he is getting for his campaigns and help out people who are losing their homes, jobs, etc? Kind of a "put your money where your mouth is" approach? Then he would really be "different" from other politicians and I bet anyone he helped or saw him helping others would vote for him and he wouldn't have to waste time campaigning and making ads...

Just a thought :-D
not a bad idea.
x
I'm not against the idea
of helping people who are helping themselves... regarding helping people with their loans because in turn it will help out the economy... this just seems to be the best suggestion I've heard so far but then again, I've not heard many. I will say this... I personally know someone who has multiple mortgages out on their home, in order to buy new vehicles, etc. not one cent put back into their home. Now I agree that people like that should not be helped, on the other hand, I also find it disgusting that anyone would lend them that money to begin with.
i had NO idea that was said
..
Here is an idea

Because there is a lot of voter fraud (no matter what side you believe there is fraud on) do you think a voting system like this would work and if not why.

First, you do away with electronic voting.  Everything is paper ballots.

You have a regular sheet of paper divided in half (top and bottom).  At the top you have the name of one candidate with the word democrat or republican underneath the name (all in huge letters for those who have a hard time reading), followed by a picture of him/her (for those who can only recognize the candidate by their photo), followed by a big huge box.  Same for the other candidate on the bottom of the paper.  The big huge box is for people to put an X, checkmark or scribble inside the box.

Then, before you vote you will be asked by the people at the voting booths if you understand how to vote, if not they explain that you can x, check or scribble inside the box next to the candidate you want to win.  Each polling place gets only the exact number of ballots (pieces of paper) as there are people registered.  Also well ahead of time you tell people if they need to register to vote they need to do so ahead of time at the DMV and nowhere else (to avoid fraud).  If they wait and don't register they will not be qualified to vote and will have to wait til next election and that's just tough because they know the rules ahead of time.

At the end of the night after the polls close there is a large group of people from both sides, they open up the boxes, take out the ballots and count them and on a huge blackboard tally up the votes.  There are a huge number of people from both sides watching, so there is no chance of fraud.  At the end of counting their tally is then sent into the main headquarters, again with a lot of people watching/listening from both sides so there is no chance of fraud.

I've just often wondered that seeing as there is so much voter fraud and a lot of it with computers (college kids are able to hack into the system), why don't we go with paper ballots (and nothing with little hanging chads).  This is a huge box so you know right away who they voted for.

What do you think?  I can't figure out why there is voter fraud at each election and it never gets fixed.  Also, would you be upset it you had to wait until 11/5 to find out the true winner of an election.

Also, I think if a county or state is found guilty of voter fraud all their votes should be tossed out, no matter whether it is on the republicans side or democrats.  Rules should be noted ahead of time that if you are caught of voter fraud you will be treated like the children you act like and your privilage will be taken away and if there are any angry citizens they need to take it up with the people in charge of the voting system in their county.  This should be a law and take effect that way people know way ahead of time the consequences of fraud or any mis-doings and there will be no option to appeal.  You knew ahead of time and you pay the consequences if guilty.

Just frustrated with voter fraud every single election and there just has to be a way to put a stop to it.  Your thoughts?

I had no idea
what the heck?  I just went to that website.  Is this just one wierdo's website who thinks that he is the messiah?  Or are you saying to me that there are real people out there, ordinary, everyday people, who actually believe that he is sent from God?  Because I watch the news all day long, was gonna vote for O, and I have never, ever seen anything like this here.
You have no idea what you are asking for
part of me hopes Obama wins just so you all can see him for what he really is.

If he wins there will be no more balance of power. We will have a liberal congress with a liberal president who elects liberal judges. But I guess that's what you want, huh? Lets forget family values, moral ways of life. If it's inconvenient, kill it. If you want to marry your dog, go ahead. Don't want to work? We'll take care of you.

I have no idea
I have only voted once before when I was in the military and I did it by absentee ballot because I was overseas.  So, who knows?  I just left it in God's hands.  But the above poster stated that it shouldnt matter.  I hope she is right!
That is when the idea was first put out by the guy....
and may not even have been what the original poster was talking about. The idea was first put out there in 2000. If is still on the net, so the "idea" is still out there. I had no idea any such thing ever existed. That is why I posted it. The original poster might not have been referring to that particular website. Sorry for confusion.
Thanks, BWT... This gives me a idea sm
of what he said. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out.
a really bad idea!
nm
You have NO idea.

Where do you get the idea
that foreign made is better value?  My husband drives a 1996 Ford F150.  It just turned over 200,000 miles and has never had a problem.  Our friends have a 1994 Dodge Ram that just turned 300,000 and they just put a new trany in it.  Another friend has a 1994 Ford F150 that has over 300,000 on it...never any major repairs.  These are all farm trucks that pull heavy LOADED trailers all the time.  So what's wrong with that value for American made?  Oh yeah, the propaganda tells us that foreign cars are better and less expensive.  They are NOT.
My idea is this........
if you want change don't expect it to come from more of the same.  My definition is simply that I would like to see people appointed who have honesty, integrity and true concern for the American citizens and those with COMMON SENSE if there is such a thing.  I think we've had just about enough "experience" in Washington D.C.  They do have the Constitution to guide them, something the "experience" is doing it's dead level best to destroy.  As for who these inexperienced people might be, I don't have a clue.  I wouldn't mind vetting them myself.  For starters I might suggest Governor Mike Beebe from the Great State of Arkansas.
Is this your idea...s/m
of

SATURDAY NIGHT

entertainment.

You have my condolences.
Can you not afford something better than that?
Oh, yes, now I remembered you are a 'starving MT.
Now there's a novel idea!
Part of the problem we're in as a nation, I believe, is because people can't get past their "liberal/conservative" viewpoint to think for themselves.  I also believe the crooks (on both sides) are counting on such sheep in their base to allow them to carry out their crookedness.
The US's idea of a just war? (sm)

The idea
that all news channels are biased is in itself based on a Fox news talking point so her premise is flawed to begin with.  I think rather than an actual question she is disguising a propaganda point in the form of a question.  There seem to be about 4 or 5 that are repeated here over and over endlessly.  Not much opinion here to see just same talking points repeated over and over.
Do you have any idea how

much murder goes along with some of these illegal aliens.....the drugs....the kidnapping, etc.  Arizona alone had 359 kidnappings in ONE year due to illegals and the drug cartel in Mexico.....are you friggin kidding me!!!!!

Not only that but they are taking away jobs from Americans and tax payers are paying their way.  You have no problem with this?

You have no idea.........
Did anyone see that special on TV about the people of Appalachia? They are so poor, you, in your nice warm house with cable TV and plenty to eat can't even comprehend. They have no fluoridated water, so they have no teeth. They have no "real" school system, so they are uneducated. Their diet is so unsubstantial because what LITTLE they get in food stamps doesn't cover the entire month. They dress in rags, they have no teeth, no car and no money - AND to top it off - there are no jobs (not that they would be hired anyway). You have absolutely NO CLUE how desperately poor a LOT of people in this country is. You tell me how those people can escape the poverty they were born into in order to pull themselves up by their bootstraps? The stereotyping BS I read on this board shows some to be more ignorant than the uneducated poor I am talking about.
How about this idea?
How about everyone using the same name so we can have a real idea of where everyone stands and who we are responding to.  JTBB gets slammed often, but that's because she doesn't hide and we know where she stands.  She hasn't flip flopped on her views either.   I'm guilty of hiding too, so from now on I'll be Paper Towel and soak it in, suck it up and get slammed when appropriate.  Who is with me?
What's Your Idea?

Relative to the political and social issues which are most important to you, that you wish could be singled out and fixed. The rules are you can only phrase it in the positive, and can only list one idea at a time. Make it as simple as you want--I'd say we should not criticize others for their ideas on this thread, but instead let's just hear from us regular folks on all sides.

My idea started back with the mortgage crisis and the bank bailouts. I think instead of the government giving the money over to help the banks cover for the huge mortgage crisis and all those unpaid loans/foreclosures, they should have given the money to the mortgagees in crisis, in the form of delays/extensions, lower interest/lower payments.

Then many people could have continued to pay their mortgages and the banks would get there money, it just would take a little longer so their profits would be lower, but the bottom wouldn't be falling out. And homeowners in trouble could at least be still responsible for their debt, and have some asset left ten years from now instead of having to walk away.

Where you get that idea -
You seem to profess to know who god loves and does, what is sin and what isn't and what is in the bible and what isn't.

Here's a clue for you cos you're not getting it.

Homosexuality (i.e. loving another human being) is not a sin. Unless your considering love to be a sin.

Nowhere in the bible does it say it is (unless you got one of those special Pat Robertson bibles).

God created everything and loves all creatures great and small - even the ones who have no common sense.

"Father forgive them for they do not know what they do". I will say that each day so that He may forgive you.
Another day, another bad idea!! nm

Here's an idea....(sm)
If you don't like what's being said, don't read it.  You don't want anyone talking about it, and yet...here you are again and again and again just dragging it out.......LOL.
