Sounds like a great idea, Backwards Typist

But gently, gently...don't want to accidentally hurt her.

(LOL...I get the idea that she'd be kickin' OUR butts instead!!!)

Your second idea sounds good....... sm
but it may be a moot point. The legislation is struggling in the Senate and W himself is lobbying for Senate to pass a bailout. Looks like the automakers may go home empty handed.

I'm not in favor of the bailout, but neither am I in favor of more people losing their jobs if it could be prevented, so I don't know what the best solution is. Over the past couple of days, Sony, Office Depot, and a mining company (name escapes me at the moment) have all laid off thousands of workers. I'm just wondering where it all will end.
sounds like a good idea to me!
I can remember when insurance companies did that before and they were not going out of business. So you think because my child is born with a medical problem, she should not get health insurance?
Great idea. BTW,
nm
Oh I think that's a great idea
Great idea -

Make everyone's name known who votes for Obama and who votes for McCain (this board goes to show people will admit in public who they vote for), so once you have the list of names for everyone who votes for Obama, only their taxes get raised, for they deserve what they get. Leave the rest of us alone.

I think it is a great idea.
We need the best, most talented people in cabinet positions, not just the best partisans or the best friends or people who are owed favors.

This is one thing I like about Obama. He listens to people with varying opinions who are knowledgeable about a subject, not just those that agree his initial opinion.
That would be a great idea, but who

would audit them all? Man, that job would take forever and a day. I certainly would like to see it happen, but I think it's wishful thinking. I guarantee (sp), though, that most of them would be running scared.

I see this picture in my mind that this audit would be done and all of a sudden we have a budget surplus.

Great idea
nm
Great idea, with just one addition:

Those who insist on not using the new board for its purpose and instead continue to do what they've been doing should receive some sort of sanction, maybe permanent banning, I don't know.

It seems another problem is that when THEY say something, it's not bashing, whereas ANYTHING we say is bashing as far as they're concerned.  I truly believe that a few misguided souls on this board truly don't believe they are doing anything wrong.  They are incapable of being objective, feel everything they say is fine, and if someone gets fed up and gives them a taste of their own medicine, they claim they're being attacked.

You could be the Virgin Mary incarnate, and if you dare to express your honest opinion on this board and do not blindly follow and worship Bush, then you're automatically a vile person.  Some days ago, Democrat invited one of them to offer a topic for debate, but that has yet to happen. Instead, the poster has, 100% of the time, chosen to bash other posters.

It's a great idea, GT, but the more I think about it, they aren't happy unless they can disrupt others who try to pursue intelligent, worthwhile, tolerant discussion.  They tell us to leave the conservative board and stay on our own board, and when we do and there isn't any more fighting on their board, they come here and start because they HAVE to have their fix of liberal bashing for the day.  The more I see it, the more it looks like a sick, twisted addiction.

I've made a list, and, unfortunately, it seems to be growing every day.  The ones who only want to insult and bash don't get a response from me any more.  In fact, I've stopped reading their posts because I already know it's more bashing, so it's a huge waste of time.

As far as ownership of the board, there just might be a new owner, because they no longer seem to favor one group of posters over another group as much, as seemed to be the case before.

But, hey, I'd love to be able to discuss issues in a friendly, respectful manner, and I'm in favor of anything that could promote that!

I think that's a great idea, Democrat.

I wonder how many would check off the Iraq war box!

Great idea, Lurker.
weren't any responses at the other board? As you say, they were/are gung ho about the war. Could it be some soldiers get more support than others? Would they be so supportive of these soldiers as well?

Immigrant Soldiers
by Chaleampon Ritthichai
01 May 2003

Even though his coffin was draped with the American flag, U.S. Marine Staff Sergeant Riayan Tejeda, 26, was not a U.S.citizen. Tejeda, who was killed in combat in Iraq, was a native of the Dominican Republic.

Eight years ago he joined the Marines after graduating from George Washington High School.

“I hope the United States will remember that my son died for this country,” his father Julio Tejada told Newsday.

Tejeda’s death has brought attention to stories of immigrants who fought for the U.S. military throughout history and the current controversy over their immigration status.

For immigrants, joining the military could lead to a faster track to citizenship, which allows them and their immediate family to reap the same benefits as native-born U.S. citizens.

In early 1990s, immigrant soldiers became eligible for citizenship after three years of legal residency, two years less than civilians. More than 3,600 immigrant soldiers became U.S. citizens from 1994 to 1999.

Last July, President Bush signed an executive order that temporarily allows immigrant soldiers to apply for citizenship immediately. Nearly 5,500 military personnel applied and some already got their citizenships.

There is no law prohibiting illegal immigrants from joining in the army but the armed forces representative says anyone without proper documents is rejected, according to a report in the New York Times.

Tejeda and at least six other U.S. servicemen killed in the war in Iraq had not yet become citizens. Six of these immigrants were granted citizenship posthumously but their relatives did not receive the benefits that would normally go to the families of the citizens.

“It is an honorary status in commemoration of the valor and the sacrifices of the deceased,” the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services explained in the memo.

More than 36,000 service members are non-citizens, making up about 5 percent of active duty service members. About a third come from Mexico and other Spanish-speaking countries and the rest are from China, Vietnam, Canada, Korea, India and other countries.

In New York City alone, 40 percent of Navy recruits were immigrants, 36 percent in the Marines and 27 percent in the Army.

Many are surprised by the number of non-citizens serving in the U.S. military but others say immigrants have always been a part of the military.

“Basically, both immigrants or non-citizens have served in the military since at least the Revolutionary war,” said University of Michigan Professor Cara Wong, who has been studying immigrants and war.

There were over 500,000 immigrants who fought in the Civil War. They were allowed to form their own units, elect their officers and speak their native tongues. “The Germans are true and patriotic,” said President Abraham Lincoln about the German immigrants volunteering to fight for the union army.

Some immigrant soldiers were even honored by the army for their bravery. During WWII Mexican born soldier Marcario Garcia, whose company was pinned down by the Nazis, fought his way out and, though wounded, was able to return with captured prisoners. Garcia was promoted to staff sergeant and awarded the Medal of Honor.

“The distinction between legal and illegal immigrants was non-existent until well after the Civil War,” said professor Wong.

The situation of non-citizen soldiers has caught the eyes of lawmakers in Washington D.C. Some are introducing bills that would shorten the waiting period to two years for foreign-born soldiers and others even argue for immediate citizenship for all immigrants on active duty in the armed forces.

But that did not happen soon enough for Tejeda. At his funeral, hundreds of people gathered to honor him at St. Elizabeth’s Church in Washington.

“He may never have been made officially a citizen of our nation,” said Mayor Michael Bloomberg. “But we are proud he was a citizen of New York.”

Spokesmen for Senator Charles Schumer and Representative Charles Rangel said that they are seeking citizenship posthumously for Tejada if his family desires.

An immigrant from Bangkok, Thailand, Chaleampon Ritthichai is the editor of The Citizen.
I have a great idea! I think the candidates should be...sm
hooked up to lie detectors during the debates.  Wouldn't that be interesting?
Very interesting,indeed, great idea! .. .
.
Great idea, Gourdpainter.

You're absolutely right about holding their feet to the fire, and writing to remind them of their promises and what we expect is a terrific idea.  Thank you for the link.

I wasn't anti-Bush until I began to see more clearly what he was really doing.  If I see the same things with Obama, I will probably be as anti-Obama as I am anti-Bush.  I'm registered "unaffiliated" because I owe no allegiance to ANY political party.

There is one thing, however, that leads me to believe Obama's presidency will be an exceptional one.  He is the first black (and white, though nobody sees that) President in history, so his burden is greater than any other President's.  If he does NOT do a good job, there won't ever be another opportunity for a second black President, just as if Hillary had won, her burden would have been greater, as well.

Either way, he made promises, and those promises are the reason I voted for him.

I've copied the link you provided to my "Favorites," and when I'm coherent enough (maybe three more cups of coffee), I, too, will send them a note.  Since this seems to be the campaign site, I hope they don't dismantle it too soon.  Thanks very much for posting it.

I LOVE IT!!!! WHAT A GREAT IDEA!!! nm

Great! Now I can't get out of my mind the idea
of this being endlessly analyzed as sportscasters do a football instant replay, then a re-replay, ad infinitum.  Must write some dialog for it when I have time, unless someone else......?
Yeah, that's a great idea....(sm)

We could lower ourselves to their standards and become just like them.  How awesome would that be?  Just think, with actions like that we might even get that Crusade you guys have been pushing for.

Note:  Doing the same thing that terrorists do makes us just like them.  Just because we do it out of revenge or in a different name, does not make us any better than them.  Jihad...Crusade...both believe they are right, so you tell me the difference.

What a great idea. Let's try a click open, click shut
nm
Great post, great insight, great analysis, thanks!..nm
nm
Great, great post. Thank you, Marmann! nm

Oh gee...that sounds like too much
thinking to have to do...... To think for yourself and not follow like lost sheep.... gee whiz.
sounds like we now have

scientific proof of putting lipstick on a pig!!  Great experiement.

It sounds like

you are not endorsing Barack Obama.

It just sounds like to me that she
lives in the neighborhood that she prefers, so that she can be her might self-righteous self.
Sounds like us and more soon when (NM)
x
sounds like

sedition to me.

Sounds like someone needs to look
a little deeper into history.  FDR actually prolonged the duration of the great depression with his government programs.  Get a clue!  Stimulus package is a BAD idea and will not work!!!!!
It sounds as though you do not want our
Congresspeople not to listen to the people's voices, I cannot believe that! I am a Democrat. I thought that is why we held elections. Look at the national polls, the numbers are dropping every day, but the last I heard it was like 37% of Americans in favor of passing this stimulus bill. And you are proud these calls are being ignored? This is a perfect example of downright IGNORANCE!
Sounds like someone

needs to go put their nose in the corner or sit in the time out chair.  Wow.

Sounds sensible enough, but I wonder...
...would you have the same discussion with them about sniffing glue? Snorting coke? Smoking "Smarties" (the newest thing)? Drinking Drano?

If you're going to disappoint me, break the law and do something harmful to your body, I'd rather you do it at home.

Sorry - I can't get a handle on that one. It's a "helpless parent" position that amounts to parental malfeasance, IMHO. I'm sorry to put it in such stark terms and I realize that I'm going to be in the minority on this one.
Sounds like they are trying........... sm
to do damage control in order to keep their Fortune "Most Admired" status.
It sounds to me as if you need to go to
your personal prayer closet and find your peace. You cannot say how you would react if one of your children came and told you he/she was homosexual.

Just to stay on topic, I am of a firm conviction and do agree with you that this is not a subject to be taught in public schools.
Now you are the one who sounds drunk
x
Sounds good to me
I have lost all credibility with you?  Yippee!!  Yehhaaww!!  Right on!!  I cant think of another hateful annoying prehistoric thinking person I would rather lose credibility with than you!  **BIG HUG**
Lol, welcome back. Sounds like you had fun.nm
x
Sounds like they are on the ball...sm
This is something that conservatives preach about, citizens have the ability to change the country not government, so you would think Ann would embrace this movement. There is no doubt in my mind that if these widows raised these issues while a Democrat was sitting as president Coulter would be praising them.

The idea here is to get OUR house in order before we go clean out someone elses.

Sounds like you have compassion for everyone!
xx
Sounds good to me
I have been ignoring Observer for a few days and it feels great.  No need to respond to Observer, I post for my fellow Democrats/liberals and read posts from them.  If I wanted to be questioned and **educated** in conservative ways, I would frequent the conservative board.
Sounds like she is just reaching ...
nm
Sounds like you are referring to a

certain group of people.  Correct me if I have misunderstood.  Who are you talking about?  The vast majority of conservatives who believe the Bible is divinely inspired support the Constitution and don't want it meddled with.  Your observation truly has me confused.

Sounds like that's exactly what you're trying to do
Grow up. Obama has nothing to brag on in that regard, either.
sounds like jealousy
you may say otherwise but reading your post you can see it. Jealousy plain and simple!
Sounds like he is just showing how
much of a pig he really is.
Sounds a bit selfish to me.....nm
nm
sounds rather redundant to me.. ...sm
I must not have a sense of humor this morning.

Do you have another e-mail regarding how everything he touched all day long was stamped "made in China" or Taiwan, or Korea, etc.? Now that's scary, and not a good joke at all.....don't say it's the republicans that made that happen, either...I blame them both parties on that one....more's the pity.
Sounds to me as if you or your family
would never vote for him anyway.  I am from a small town in PA, born, bred and live in a small town, and I and my DH have no qualms with any of the so-called elitist statement, and as I said before, as I see it and hear it, he is right!  Some people are just too stupid or too bigoted to vote for their best interests, period, and that is the truth.  It is incredible to come through 8 years of the worst government this nation has ever seen, in the middle of a financial crisis that is being compared to the Great Depression, to vote for and give those people at least 4 more years that have brought this country to its knees, in one war that was unnecessary, that cast aside the constitution, torture, and all the other horrendous wrongdoings of the Bush administration, to allow race or a few misspoken words stop from electing a good man, an intelligent man, well, that is just stupidity or bigotry any way you slice it.  BTW, I am a 54-year-old white woman.... And I know there are more out there just like me who will vote for this man.. Be he elitist or be he a black radical or whatever slur you would throw at him, I will bet that he will be our next president, and  Good Lord I hope so!!  As I read through your writings here, seems to me you have not even stopped to think about how much this man has gone through to get where he is...as a black man, it could not have been easy for him, but he did, and he is, and I say more power to him.  All you can do is slur and impune him, give him no benefit of the doubt, or even think through what another 4 years of Republican rule will do to our country or your own quality of life.  You like to repeat the things they say on rightwing radio/TV, which are hateful and downright mean, and you have to be of a certain mindset to even listen to it.  I listen to Limbaugh, I watch Faux News, but I can't do so for very long because to me they are nothing but evil.  If you want to get religious, they are not very Christian-like, not if Christian means followers of Christ.  All I hear from them is a lot of liese, hate and hypocrisy.
It sounds like YOU are the JEALOUS one!
See green much?  Enough said.
yes, exactly the same. It all sounds ridiculous to me
but people better start paying attention to the issues and stop with the emotions already. break it down, what is each candidate offering ME and my children. We are left to figure out the honesty from the lies but we should all step back and pay close attention to what is happening here.

I as an independent have been questioning motives - and I do not like being used.
Sounds like a housemate I used to have....

And it sounds good when he says he
...once again, get him to show us how he is going to do this. He will not and cannot.
LOL...Dang...sounds like
we got a bunch of ole hillbillies on this board and I'm lovin it.  So don't no one get their overhauls in a bunch!  LOL.
