Republicans/Christians (getting hard to tell the difference) want no sex education, no birth control but abstinence (ha), no abortion, no public assistance, & oh yeah, would prefer not to see a child be adopted into a loving home if the parents happen to be gay. But they love trumpeting about fetal rights all the day long. All it says is that they really have no clue what life is like for the homeless & impoverished. Nature herself produces forest fires that ultimately serve the viability, growth & success of the species that remain, & you see what happens to forests when we are overzealous about preserving life at all costs. Ultimately & somewhat paradoxically, it's incompatible with life.

This picture of some perfect world where every child would have been Jonas Salk or Marie Curie & been born into a loving & prosperous family...great fantasy, but even if it were true, you cannot legislate on the basis of your religious beliefs. If you want government that is inseparable from religion, you should join AL Qaida.

I can just hear it now: How dare she?? Christians are so much better than Muslims!

From the standpoint of an atheist, the fate of an aborted child is at least on a par with the fate of one born into a narrow, faith-based world view that champions life but thinks nothing of bombing abortion clinics.
