Great idea, Gourdpainter.

You're absolutely right about holding their feet to the fire, and writing to remind them of their promises and what we expect is a terrific idea.  Thank you for the link.

I wasn't anti-Bush until I began to see more clearly what he was really doing.  If I see the same things with Obama, I will probably be as anti-Obama as I am anti-Bush.  I'm registered "unaffiliated" because I owe no allegiance to ANY political party.

There is one thing, however, that leads me to believe Obama's presidency will be an exceptional one.  He is the first black (and white, though nobody sees that) President in history, so his burden is greater than any other President's.  If he does NOT do a good job, there won't ever be another opportunity for a second black President, just as if Hillary had won, her burden would have been greater, as well.

Either way, he made promises, and those promises are the reason I voted for him.

I've copied the link you provided to my "Favorites," and when I'm coherent enough (maybe three more cups of coffee), I, too, will send them a note.  Since this seems to be the campaign site, I hope they don't dismantle it too soon.  Thanks very much for posting it.

LOL! and leave MY great country
to the Bu$shbots?

I think not. Better to stay and fight for what is right.
I agree, Kaydie. Great post!!! Thank you for serving
the USA.  My family and I appreciate you!
I agree that some of the discussions.........sm
have leaned a little toward the religious side like the one below, but there was a post further down the board discussing the SC nominee. As far as Obama and anything O, the discussion is pretty much futile. Battle lines have been drawn and most discussions just end up in a shouting match. LOL

Enough. Stick the with political discussions..

If your posts are directed towards posters and NOT a political issue or discussion, you will be banned.  We've asked nicely, we've posted it on here.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO AGREE, just stop the childish behavior of attacking people on this board.

avoid political discussions . . .
with people who get angry if you question their beliefs or have no respect for your beliefs. My mother is a staunch conservative who will go on and on about how stupid liberals are and how she hates them. Well guess what, I am a liberal. But she is so involved in her own view, she has never even noticed I am a liberal because I don't talk about it with her and either walk away or change the subject. Can't stand the venom that comes from her mouth when she rants about people with different beliefs than her. Started her tirade at my daughter's high school graduation dinner, and I had to tell her it was inappropriate. She didn't understand where I was coming from and got all offended. She is nuts anyway and has no clue about other people's feelings.
These types of discussions should be on the faith board, not here!
If you want to talk about God, take it to the faith board. Personally, I am sick and tired of hearing about it!
Great post, great insight, great analysis, thanks!..nm

gourdpainter...
We just finished a study of Revelation at our church. In the part you were talking about, "one man rising to lead them" it also says he will be diverse from the rest. He will be well liked, and many people will come to believe he is a "messiah".

Read this site just for face value, and just tell me if it doesn't make you cringe, just a bit.

http://www.theprophecies.com/antichrist.html

I pray that we do get our hiney's raptured right out of here before everything really goes down.
Oh please, gourdpainter.
Are you insinuating that Christianity is the only religion that believes in basic human values? Do you really think that anyone who is not a Christian automatically condones raping, killing, stealing, lying, or anything like it? We all have rights in this country, even minorities!
So okay, put it under gourdpainter
I'll stand by what I say.  LOL
Thank you, thank you, thank you, Gourdpainter!
This man and the running mate he has chosen (which I bet now he is regretting) scare me to death.  I have never in my life witnessed so much lying, hypocrisy and lack of integrity that these two people have have shown.  Anyone watching his face as he speaks would have to see the glaringly clear dishonesty of this man!
Gourdpainter, why do you believe that?
I am just wondering why you feel so sure that McCain is going to win...
I don't know, gourdpainter.............sm
why Wright is not being talked about in the political circles. My initial thought is the difference between him and Ayers or the others is that he calls himself a preacher/reverend. While I definitely agree with you as far as Wright's political statements from the pulpit, maybe it is that McCain and Palin have not jumped on him because they were made from a pulpit and they view that as "protected" in some way??? In other words, they as politicians are not supposed to bring God into politics, so maybe this is an off limits kind of subject.

I notice you keep stating that you don't want Palin as president. GP, she is not running for president; McCain is. And while the chance exists that he could die in office (not necessarily of evil intentions but rather due to age) and Palin could step into the presidency, I would rather have her there than Obama/Biden any day. I can assure you that Obama will be the final ruination of this country if he is elected.

I'm sorry you can't sleep at night. Maybe you need to rethink your vote and vote for McCain. I've noticed others on this board who have said they can sleep at night now knowing that they are voting for McCain. ;o)
Gourdpainter
Sorry I didn't answer! It was farrier day at my moms so I've been gone all afternoon.

I respect your opinion, and I understand where you are coming from. Honestly at this point all we can do is pray. There is just to much stuff I've seen of O that rubs me the wrong way. I just believe voting for Mccain is the lesser of two evils. Yes, it may be the same. But I'd rather endure 4 more years of the same and pray during those four years for a godly candidate to come about than to risk voting for someone who we really do not know about. That's just a big issue I have. We really still do not know who Obama is. We know who he is portrayed as, but there has not been enough time for us to know who he truly is and what he truly believes in.

This is my other big worry...if, God forbid, Obama gets assassinated, and Biden dies or whatever (his health isn't much better than Mccain's I'm pretty sure) then we have Pelosi. THAT is frightening. I would take Palin over Pelosi any day. And Biden could possibly misspeak his way right into a nuclear war. Of course I know your view on Palin so we won't go there... :)

Your right, Mccain is not a godly candidate. If the reason he left his wife is true, it's despicable. But you know what, he's apologized. And I'm sure he has asked forgiveness. We all do things we are not proud of. Obama lies until he is backed into a corner (such as Rev Wright) and then when he finally can't back up anymore he then says "oh I condemn what he said." Not good enough to me. I don't care what the man says, he did not sit in that church for almost 500 Sundays and never once hear Wright preach hate. Straight up, he lied. He has been saturated with this hate. Yes, I believe he will bring change. While we don't know if he is a terrorist, I firmly believe he is anti-American. I believe he wants to bring about a "New America". While we have things wrong with this country, we are still a great country when you get down to the nitty gritty and I don't think every facet of American life needs to be changed. I think that is what he believes. He has his head in the clouds. Just look at how he is now saying "ohh don't get too excited". Why did he promise all that at the beginning? To get the votes. To get people to decide on him, because you know the majority of people aren't going to change their minds now.

He's promising you more days off from school and more vending machines in the halls knowing he can't give them to you. He has people following him now like lemmings on a cliff.

Also, I feel like there are a lot of big red flags coming up from the Bible. I feel like we are going to be face to face with Jesus and he's going to say "I TRIED TO WARN YOU!"

I understand what you mean though, about God not telling you. Sometimes I wish he would just make me a neon sign :). Just make sure you sit still and listen, because if you're like me sometimes he may be shouting at you and you just can't hear him.

I encourage you to definitely take some time to yourself and just sit and talk with Him, and see what he puts on your heart.

I understand the appeal of Obama, I really do. As a 22-year-old college student, I feel like one of a few of my age group that isn't voting for him. I really liked him at first, but the more and more I read about his association with Wright, his view of the "typical white woman", his view on abortion, etc., I just feel like he is not the man who is going to lead our country back to God, and ultimately, that is what we need. Like I said, Mccain probably won't either, but I fear with Obama there may not be a chance to elect another Christian president. I fear that he will go as far as to quiet our preachers and to limit what we can say as Christians. If he doesn't personally, the democratic congress will, and I don't believe he will say no to them. That's one thing I like about Mccain, you know he will say no if need be. I just think Obama owes to many people. He didn't make it up the ladder this quick without a lot of help.

Well, it's back to work for me. Take it easy!

I think gourdpainter has.

i, gourdpainter...

Oh, gourdpainter....sm
I know for a fact, that you yourself usually possess what my grandpa used to call, "good ol' fashioned horse sense."

It just amazes me that you don't recognize it in someone else.

Your mind is already made up, so I don't think I can explain it to you.
Gourdpainter...........sm

And all the other nay-sayers.

About the post below concerning the audio interview with Obama on the energy issue, did you even listen to the audio that was presented?

Not only did I listen to it, I went to the source web site and listened.  Here is the link if you want to check it out further.  http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/sfgate/detail?blogid=14&entry_id=32228

The entire interview was about 48 minutes long.  It was Obama answering questions from several journalists on a number of issues.  He was first questioned about energy at about 25:15 in the tape.  The issue that was brought up in the post below that you called 'Horsefeathers' was discussed at about 40:30.  I encourage you go listen for yourself and hear the words from the horse's mouth.

Other issues discussed along with the time markers for each discussion were:

Health care 10:38
Securities Industry  20:00
Iraq  29:18
Environment  39:55
Racial issues  42:24  (And this was a listener/reader question)
Voting system in the caucuses (sp):  46:09

Obama is, without doubt, a very intelligent man and eloquent speaker, but I fear he may be far too intelligent, possibly to the point that he cannot be reigned in if necessary, and that in combination with a Democratic House, Senate and Judiciary branch makes him a very dangerous man.

Wow Gourdpainter
you really opened the floodgates - LOL!
Well, gourdpainter, there is your
it says on this website!!! Believe me, I live further south than Arkansas and I wonder what they had to pay these idiots to do this. No one near where I live averages this stoopid! Big Bad had a lot of time on her hands to come up with this one!
kaydie
believe me, I feel the same way. word is, they want her out of NY, too. They are sorry they voted for her. I just don't see her stepping down from the race gracefully. I figure they have to offer her something really big and I don't see her as obama's vp, unless he is hiring a food taster. I can't believe any medical personnel would vote for her after she said nurses were highly overpaid and underworked - I have seen those girls so tired they can't make it home without pulling over to snooze. AND she just said a couple of months ago that we had already made inroads on health care costs by outsourcing med. tx's and in the same speech promised to bring jobs back to the USA, go figure.
Thank you Kaydie. (sm)
Great post. Very intelligent and well written.
Hi Kaydie
Thanks for your reply and for giving me your viewpoint.

As for voting, I've felt the same way that you do... no one cares what little old me thinks about the next president, but they'll let me vote so I think I have a say so. But I've decided that I need to participate "just in case".

On the religion side, I think that is where so much of the hatred towards Christians lie, in the "intolerance". You see we are taught that Christ IS the only way to heaven and to God, and other religions ARE wrong. If we didn't believe that 100%, we would not really be Christians, because the Bible teaches us that (my preacher is very good about not straying from the bible or misusing verses, and has said time and time again that if he does he expects to be immediately corrected). The Bible is the unerring word of God, written by man, but inspired by Him.

The problem is, you can't just walk up to a Muslim or Jew or anyone else and say "hey, your religion is wrong, because this is what mine says!" because they can immediately say the same thing to you, and if that is your only argument then your going to argue in circles with them.

That's why I believe it is so important to study other religions. Not to believe in them, but to be able to have an intelligent debate with them.

A big thing I notice is that people now a days believe that "to tolerate" means to also believe in. Like because I'm Christian I should believe that Christ is the way to heaven, but so is being a Muslim, Jew, etc. But that contradicts us horribly. To tolerate, according to Webster's, is to "to allow the existence, presence, practice, or act of without prohibition or hindrance; permit. " Basically, to respect others religions. I respect Muslims, Buddhists, Catholics, Jews, and their views. But I respectfully disagree with them. If one of them wanted to talk with me, I wouldn't just shove my fingers in my ears and say "la LA la la la i'm right your wrong" but I would talk with them and since I believe that Christ is the only way to heaven, I would give them my viewpoints and my reasons for believing this, and maybe they would accept. Maybe not. That's all we can do as Christians, state our case. It's between God and that person to do the rest.

So basically I think that's why people feel that Christians are intolerant. I know a lot of us don't want to even accept other religions as being in existence, but they are, and we have to learn to be respectful in presenting the Gospel to those of other religions.

If you want a good study check out Josh McDowell's "A verdict that demands a truth". It's not a book to sit down and read with a cup of coffee, it's more like a text book. But it picks into every corner of the "why?" of Christianity. It is really worth it to read!

Thank you so much, Kaydie -
I could already tell so much of a difference in my "boy" - in fact, I think he was gone and I got a "man".

He enlisted in the reserves, decided to go active, but they sent him on to basic and said for him to finish the paperwork when he comes out of AIT so he could go active, but now he has decided to just stay in the reserves and go to college with an ROTC program so he can leave the reserves and enlist as an officer - hopefully, he can be all he wants to be!
Also, Kaydie -
Katterbach/Ansbach is where I lived when I was there. I also lived in Bamberg for about 6 months. My uncle lived in Ansbach and I lived with him for awhile and then moved to Bamberg to live with my husband.
And Kaydie, what exactly does that mean?
??
Kaydie

Gosh, till bashing Obama.

In your posts, you have commented on Obama's race, you have commented that he plays the race card which he never has, and you connected his name to Adolf Hitler, all things a racist would do.  It just dawned on me that you are a racist.  If Caspar the Friendly Ghost were running for President, you would vote for him  because he is white.

You commented that you hate McCain but you don't know who to vote for.  That is because the alternative to McCain would be voting for a black man who would be in the White House!

If you look at Obama through non-racist vision, you might see more clearly.

Kaydie -
Off the subject of politics, but wanted to tell you something about stereotyping.

I am a 39 year old white woman and am in college. I was in the bookstore talking to the manager and clerk one day during a break, just hanging out, and the subject got on the men in our life. Well, my boyfriend is black. When that fact came out in the conversation, both of their jaws dropped and almost simultaneously they stated that they never would have guessed that because I did not "look like I would date a black man". They went on to talk about how professional I look, how I speak as a professional, and present myself as professional.

you go kaydie -
x
You know what Kaydie?
You are a perfect example of McCain/Palin strategy.  Scare, scare, scare.  Your constant harping "till the cows come home" gets really old.  How about "Joe the Plumber/"  Do you REALLY think he wasn't a plant by the McCain group?  Know what my husband said?  "He looks like a dam*ed skin head."  hmmmmm  My husband is also a Viet Nam vet and he will not vote for McCain.  If you think I'm opinionated you ought to get him going.  LOL
you go, Kaydie.
Strength of conviction, that is what I see and what this great country was built up. You keep on posting what you believe in. Not everyone here has their eyes closed to what is going on. Thank you for posting with dignity and not constantly insulting and name calling like so many others here do.
for Kaydie
Your unselfishness by serving the best country in the WORLD is literally beyond admirable. Whenever I see one who served our country, their uniform, cap (I hope I said that right), I become very emotional. In fact, I wanted to work at the Army &/or Marines office nearby, rather than this job. Since I didn't serve, I was unable (as I interpreted it).

I salute you, Kaydie, the same as I do John McCain and all the rest!

It makes me furious when your votes mysteriously "disappear," etc. It's despicable! What does that say aboout the opposing party? There's no denying it!

THANK YOU, Kaydie! You're a true patriot!
Don't go, Kaydie....sm
I know you haven't always been treated kindly on this board, but as an American, you still have the liberty to voice your opinion, whether a single person agrees or not. I have always found your posts insightful and interesting. Stay with us!
You can say that again, Kaydie.....sm
I, for one, need to get back to work. We have to quit making this such an interesting place to be! HAHAHA

Kaydie......... sm
Good to see you.  I always enjoy reading your opinions, even though we don't always agree on things.  Life would be so boring if we did agree on things, don't you think?

As I have in the past with others, I will have to disagree with your stance that abortion should be allowed.  I am not discounting all that you have said here in regards to children who are brought into this world unwanted by their birth mother, and to me that is a tragedy in and of itself.  I also am not discounting the sorrow with which some women must bear a child in circumstances that are not favorable.  However,  tthere are alternatives to abortion.  I still believe and always will believe that taking a baby's life under any circumstance is the right thing to do.  God alone is the giver of life and God alone is the taker of life.  The child that is aborted could be the child that will discover the cure for cancer or AIDS or some other dread medical disease.  He or she may be the peacemaker this country/world needs.  He or she may just be an average citizen with no world impact, but he or she has the right to live their life, just as you and I do.

Much is said about when life begins and there are varying opinions as to when that moment is.  Mine is that life begins at conception and that God knows us even before that point, so taking a baby's life is wrong.  Why, if it were not wrong, is a murderer who kills a pregnant woman charged with 2  counts of murder?  Why, if it were not wrong, do some women feel such guilt at having aborted their child, even if they felt at the time that it was the "right thing to do"?  Why, if it were not wrong, did God create pregnancy in such a manner that it is practically undetectable, except for a chemical pregnancy test, until the point at which the heart and nervous system begin to develop at around 5 to 6 weeks?

Abortion has been around for ages and likely will not go away just because of a few words written on a message board or even by legislation declaring it illegal, but if I can challenge even 1 person to critically examine the facts and not just the emotional ramifications behind abortion, then it is worth my time in stating my opinion.  I have enclosed a link to a web site which shows in great detail the development of a baby from conception until the point of birth.  I hope that you will look at it and understand that life does begin at conception and not at some arbitrary point between conception and birth.

There is an alternative to abortion.

for Kaydie....s/m
I share your opinion.
Kaydie

I can totally relate to DH story.

I grew up with a very abusive father.  He wasn't an alcoholic, but I would get beaten with many things besides a belt (2x4s, choker chain, shovel, bench, just to name a few).  I was a straight A high honor roll student.  I never got into trouble in school.  I have never done any drugs.  I didn't really have a social life because I would be put to work around our business and I mean lots of physical labor etc.  He would tell me I was a retard and stupid all of the time.  ALL of the time.  He would never go to any of my stuff, including my high school graduation.  There are stories I could tell you but I would rather not.  I know what it's like to grow up like that.  I would never wish that upon ANYBODY.  I wanted to die and I felt like a slave until I was able to take control of my own life after high school.

I also want to share with you that I am the poster of the "What embryos and fetuses are for" because through all of the crap and hatefulness I have had to deal with in my life, I knew there was more to life than pain.  I knew I was here for a reason.  Now as an adult, I have a beautiful family whom I love very, very much.  I take it from your post you think everything was rosy for me with wanting that experience for my children.  I know what reality is.  I think I turned out okay and I have a great husband and children.  LIfe is what you make it.  Unfortunately, there will always be someone hurting children and that is a terrible thing.  But I truly feel life is precious and something to be cherished.  With adversity comes empathy.  Just my opinion, of course.

Kaydie?

O

hey gourdpainter -- was this a typo or not?

The ex-wife, scorned "pubically" -- was that what you really meant or did you mean publicly?  If so, it's the best typo I've seen all day.  If not, I'm still laughing!

Thanks -- I needed one today!

Sam/Gourdpainter debate s/m

Somewhere down below I posted things I  had AGAINST Obama.  Sam replied.  Now I can't find the thread........typical for this old-timer.

Sam, I noticed a lot of "McCain says" and "McCain calls for" in your reply.  I say both candidates "say" and "call for."  Let's reason here together.  After his 25 years in the Congress do you think McCain doesn't have cronies in Congress and on Wall Street?  Do you think he isn't indebted to monied people in Arizona?  Likewise, Obama, do you think he doesn't have cronies in Congress and Wall Street AND in Chicago?   Well...news flash.  Sure he does.  Do you REALLY think either candidate, regardless of what they "call for" in pre-election propaganda are really going to do anything to benefit the common working class Americans?  I certainly do not.

I just finished reading the Wall Street report this morning and you know what I think?  I think everyone had better get out their Bible and have a read of Revelations whether they want to honor it as God's Word or just history.  It's all there as well as the end result.  Yep, I think we had all better turn to God.  He said if we would turn to Him he would deliver us and I believe HE is our only hope.  Otherwise, what I see is China forclosing on our huge national debt and then skip the socialism, we'll go directly to communism and we won't pass go and we CERTAINLY won't collect $200. Another good read might be the fall of the Roman Empire.

I can't believe I'm still wasting my time railing about the state of this countries ills.  No one will see that it is not DEMOCRATS or REPUBLICANS that are at the root of the problems, it's the AMERICAN people who can't get past party affiliation.  No change will come until the American PEOPLE make it come.

gourdpainter, my question is, why is it
liberal, every person who openly denounces God and all moralities are pro Obama? I am not saying McCain is perfect, and I am sure there are Christians voting for Obama. I just cannot understand why so many atheist, nonbelievers, outspoken celebrities want Obama to be elected so desperately.
In all fairness, gourdpainter,

I don't really think Obama is going to come right out and admit that he is friends with Ayers - that would spell disaster for his campaign and plans.  I have learned I cannot trust what is fed to me, so I watch all of the stations, including Fox, and I read through tons of information on the internet and make up my own mind instead of letting the media make it up for me.

I will tell you, when this campaign first started, I was so excited to hear what he had to say about the issues and to think he has young kids, etc., etc., but the more I have researched (just facts with proof), I have decided that I cannot vote for this man.  He is not who I believe will take America forward.  His policies most definitely I don't agree with but I cannot accept a man whose character is questionable.

gourdpainter? You dont think you are just as
nm
Gourdpainter is right about the nonunion

employees getting better benefits when the union employees do.  My husband works for the state and although he is not union eligible (middle management), his work class follows the same policy as the union employees.  If the union employees get a raise or a benefit change, he gets the same.

My husband, however, is not protected by the union should any situations arise.  I call him a "tagalong".

This post should be under gourdpainter.
