There is no such thing as "preventative" health care. A doctor cannot "prevent" anyone from smoking, drinking, consuming junk food, taking illicit drugs, or having multiple sexual encounters. "Maintenance" of health is entirely up to the individual. There will ALWAYS be a high number of catastrophic events related to heart disease, cancer, diabetes and AIDS whether a person has insurance or not. Doctors are still giving outdated and mythical advice, especially concerning diet. Prevention and maintenance starts at home and most of the people I am acquainted with could give a rat's asp about preventing disease or maintaining any form of health, especially if it means making sacrifices. A pill and surgery will suffice. We will continue to pay and people will continue to get sick and die with or without "health care" reform. The "reform" has to start with the health care "professionals."
