The government will never allow themselves to be layed off. I agree that many areas are already in a depression.
I am in no way in agreement with the most current "stimulus" plan. It just seems stupid! Ever since the first bail-out, companies have been lining up for their ticket to ride. Just today on the news I heard that the Hollywood movie makers have petitioned to get some bail-out money because they are not making the money they used to. Maybe if they made better movies, more people would go to see them! I don't know about you folks, but I am having a darn hard time just putting food on the table and paying the utilities. If I did not have my husband to pay the rent, we'd be living in a cardboard box under a bridge somewhere.
Uncle Sam only looks out for himself.

Do you recall the cuban missile crisis? They WERE coming to get us. John Kennedy (Yes a democrat, but I would not call him liberal by today's standards) stood them down. Then, when Reagan was President, he stood them down again, and the wall came down. Communism WAS defeated for all intents and purposes. Communists and radical Islamists are not even near the same thing, however. Communists never killed 3000 of us on our own soil. Radical Islamists did. Communists never killed 200+ Marines sleeping in their bunks. Radical Islamsists did. Communists never blew a hole in the side of one of our ships and killed sailors...radical Islamists did. Communists didn't put a bomb in the WTC the first time....communists did not blow up assorted embassies.....need I go on? We have NEVER faced an enemy like this one. I realize I am not going to change your mind, and I am sorrier for that than you can possibly imagine, mainly because I know that underestimating them will have disastrous consequences for this country...your country and my country...and that endangers the country my children and grandchildren will know. You need to stop looking at this as a political right or left thing, because, Lurker, they don't care if you are liberal or conservative. They hate us ALL.
You tell me...what should we have done after 9-11? Nothing? What do we do now? Nothing? Just pull out of Iraq and give them the biggest boost for jihad they have had since 9-11? Maybe you are okay with that...I am not.
I am not saying these things to belittle you. You tell me that I will never change your mind, but understand the reason I keep saying it and saying it...and it has absolutely nothing to do with left or right or up or down or red or blue or any of that crap....because none of that will matter if they come with the dirty bombs, the suicide bombings, when we are not able to go to a public place for fear of being blown up....you say that will not happen here, I say that cavalier attitude may very well be the doom of us all. So, I keep saying it, hoping it will sink it past the political and ideologic walls and touch the old common sense nerve that all Americans used to have. Everything I have seen and everything I have learned about human nature lo this many years in this world tells me that without a doubt we are in a struggle for our way of life. And why you cannot see that...I simply do not understand. But care about you and every other American compels me to keep saying it.

I certainly don't condone anyone who thinks so lowly of their own country that they would be embarrassed to say where they are from and why in the world would you single out the right-wing for name calling? I think there is enough blame to go around for all.
For those that didn't care for Ron Paul, it seems strange to me, because the things he wanted to do, give the people their power back and take away BIG government, are the very things so many people who feel this way want to see done with as well. He stated on a number of occasions that he could see why other countries looked at the US with the "know it all mentality" and we will save the world from itself mentality. His point that so many did not want to hear (both sides of the ticket) were that we are always too involved in other countries, stick our nose in their governments, manipulate their governments to suit us and when that goes bad, we want to militarily put someone in power WE want in order to get out of that country what we want. He tried to explain why the middle east (and not the crazy zealots) felt bitterness towards us. For those that have taken the time to do their history homework, you will see we have manipulated countries over the decades, starting way back when.
He tried desperately to get the word out that our constitution was being stepped all over and not respected at all by all parties. Our country was to stay out of wars and "mind our own business" so to speak, but so many took that the wrong way instead of really listening to what he was saying; that we should take care of our own first, not be taxed AT ALL, and that government was WAY TOO BIG and never should be what it is today.
I read so many put downs of him on this board alone but when we see who are the candidates now, some who say similar things, suddenly they are wonderful people, so caring for this country and its people.
What I see is frustration of the American people, tired of big government, tired of having our civil rights taken away one by one, and basically just fed up. But, no, it's not the right-wing that has caused this anymore than another party. Those that say that simply want someone to blame for the shape of this country today. Regardless of who has been president over the decades, they have not followed the constitution as they should, they have allowed our rights to be taken away from us and who is really to blame? We are because we have let it happen.
If you don't hear NO taxes, no big government, no involvement in foreign wars, which you don't hear from either party, then neither one of them is following our constitution. They are pushing their own agendas, plain and simple.

With Obama's tax plans, the average middle class worker will get to keep 38 cents of each dollar they make.
Although we are taxed heavily now, I for one do get to keep much more than 38 cents on a dollar.

Are so upset about the tax breaks they are going to get and the cheaper health care? They have been subjected to some powerful brainwashing I suppose. Maybe they were raised in a Republican family who vote for only Republicans and it's almost a cultural thing. Can they not see what Bush has done to our country? Is anyone sorry they voted for him? This is so mysterious to me. I also see people saying they believe Fox News. I think it's very sad. I thought only very old people who watch the news and go to bed at 10 watched Fox. There is no excuse for this.
