You mean the search for cures?  Remember once upon a time germ theory was just a theory and had to be proven.  People scoffed at the idea of germs causing disease.  I just saw on PBS where a scientist allowed himself to be bitten by a mosquito that carried yellow fever in order to prove that mosquitoes carried it (he died from the disease), another idea that was scoffed at.  You are right, there are no absolutes in science working toward cures......

What I objected to was your flat statement of being against anything that destroys life.  What destroys life and saves a life often is ethically impossible to determine.

So also do not believe in capital punishment?
