You are in an even worse position than I am...

Posted By: Kendra on 2009-01-26
In Reply to: Yes, because I am responsible I am SOL - grrrrrr

at least my mortgage is a fixed rate mortgage with a reasonable interest rate - not as low as what is being offered to those who are defaulting, but not too bad in the grand scheme of things. So--good luck to you!!!

Don't blame the vultures for her mistakes.
You don't even know his position do you?
@!@
Sorry - you can't diagnose my position

I live in a blue collar neighborhood - those who lose their jobs - start scrapping metal or cutting wood or whatever they can do to earn a living. They do not sponge off of society. Their kids go without medical care as a result, but the whole family does. They also hunt to put meat on the table. I go into the cheap grocery stores to shop - rarely do I see food stamps being used. My husband is a white collar worker who was just laid off. Wehave to decide between COBRA and the mortgage. I have cancer, so I guess COBRA wins.  Please research welfare and find out, REALLY, what a small percentage of our population is on the dole. Welfare is just another propaganda tool. I know - I went into social work.

Not in a position to give more
The problem is not everyone is in a position to give MORE but the government doesn't take that into acct. We will all be paying more to the government eventually. Who else will be paying this money back?
He was sworn into his current position
using a Koran, not the Bible. He refuses to honor our flag because it is against his religion. He will ruin this country from the inside out if elected. The phrase "One nation under God" will be removed from our Pledge of Allegiance. Think about that!
Whoever gets the position will have a whale of a job to clean up. sm

Our troops are stretched so thinly worldwide that homeland security is compromised.  Ya gotta hear some of the older vets talking strategy...

I stand by my position. Isn't that partly what
the VP is for. I am glad that McCain thinks he needs to be in DC, but let Palin take over for a few days.

Don't be ridiculous, of course the financial crisis is more important. But, why can't he do the debate 1 night. It is just 1 night. Let them debate the economy instead, I am sure Americans would love to hear what they have to say about it right now.
It's not an attack, it's a statement of position.
the concept I take exception to. I want my health insurance benefits to stay in the "pre-tax" column on my pay stub. In fact, I want all my benefits to stay in that column. Under McCain's plan, I would pay tax on my benefit out of every single paycheck and the US treasury gets the use of that money until filing time rolls around. I need my money to stay in my house, not theirs during the course of the year. I don't want a percentage of my health insurance benefits to be used to bail out predatory lenders (under McCain's new Resurence Plan) on subprime mortgages. I want it to be used to buy groceries, pay for gas and pay bills. The slippery slope comes into play the next time they need to go looking for another way to screw over taxpayers and they start to monkey with the 14% rate. Thanks but no thanks. No second grade math lession needed here.

For key cabinet position, just where would you suggest
One key element of bringing change to Washington in my estimation would be to take US leadership one step beyond the "old guard" of the Boomer generation. I can say this with impunity since I am referring to my own generation. In any case, this is a bit of a tricky proposition since that means Obama would need to focus on younger individuals born in the early to mid 1960s and beyond, with ages approximately 46-48 or younger. These individuals would have reached their adult years and started building their professional careers AFTER the Carter administration. How many democratic presidents have we had since the Carter administration?

With the selection of KEY positions, it is imperative that Obama appoint people with senior-level experience. Stop to ponder for a moment, the appointments that have been made thus far.

1. Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, by all measures a "Clinton person."
2. Atty General Eric Holder served in the US Justice Dept during Ford, Carter and Reagan, who appointed him DC Superior court Judge in 1988, a post he held until 1993 before Clinton appointed him US atty in DC, later becoming Clinton's Deputy Atty General. In other words, 17 years of his experience was gained in service to the 3 former presidents prior to the Clinton appointments.
3. Director of the Office of Management and Budget - Peter Orszag, Director of Congressional Budget Office under W and served on Council of Economic Advisors under Clinton.
4. Senior Advisor Pete Rouse - Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush Sr. Clinton and W.

Holder served under 3 different presidents prior to Clinton, Orszag's onlyh appointed position was under W and Rouse servced under 5 other presidents before Clinton. My question then is why is it that all of these people are suddenly "Clinton people?" Even if they all were, where would you expect Obama to look for his cabinet appointees...retired officials from the Carter administation perhaps? Would Reganites deliver Change? How about those Bush people (I am so sure).

I have no doubt that there will be appointees with roots in the republican camp, but please note that we are talking about only 4 choices at this point in time, 3 of which DO have ties to administrations other than Clinton's. Besides that, the most key factor is that all of these appointees will be serving under a DIFFERENT leader with a strong mandate for change, equipped with favorable legislative bodies. Perhaps it would be wise to reserve judgment on ALL of this until AFTER they take office and actually start doing their jobs, ya think?

He disqualified himself from the position by his own testimony.... sm
Didn't he? Or was that someone else talking?

Who can believe anything this guy says?

Any republican in his position would be run out of Washington.

Extremely poor judgment from President Obama on this one.
Had dog catcher been an elected position

I'm sure she would have run for it.  Well, she's ''moved on up to the big house'' now.  She is a co-sponsor of Card Check and a real party hack.  This is my representative.  Abandon all hope!

Excuse me....the Presidency is an executive position...
Palin is the only one of the four who has executive appearance. She is as ready to lead right now as Obama is. Obama has zero international experience other than one trip to talk to the Germans in a political speech.

And I would think the fact that your #1 has less experience than McCain's #2 you would stay away from the experience thing...?

He picked her because she shares his ideals..wants change in washington. Obama wants that too. McCain picked a REAL Washington outsider. Obama didn't. Soooo..they are saying some of the same things Obama is saying, but when Obama says it is good, when they say it, it is bad?

Hello President McCain, and VP Palin!
WHy is disagreeing with a position viewed as bullying?
Your response is much more bullying....self-righteous and pompous I think were your words...

It is not MY party. I am not a Republican. This country would be much better off if everyone, both sides, put country first and not the party.

That being said...it were an important issue to debate, it should not have had to have a pregnant 17-year-old girl "spark it." All I am saying is, regardless of that, it is a choice whether to continue to bring into the spotlight a candidate's child for political fodder.

The point is...it was not an issue before 17-year-old pregnant Bristol. But now it is, a way to keep that constantly in the forefront. That is the choice some on the left have made.

All I am saying is...while I am sure you think it is justified, there are many who will not. And that is ALL I am saying.
Wow, is this the type of person we want in a position of power? (nm)

And where is that written, if you are conducting the job or position for which you ran with integrit
where is it written that you give away your right to privacy? Are you kidding? I am so sick of the media mentality that just because someone has chosen a profession, such as politics, acting, the arts, etc., that EVERYTHING is fair game, you can never have a private moment in your entire life (or term), you may be hunted, haunted, treated like an animal in a zoo.....yes, you are a public figure, but still a human being with rights, and that means a right to privacy. To think otherwise is mercenary, cold, and totally out of touch with humanity. Actors play parts to entertain us, give us pleasure, help us escape, but they can never ever escape the papparazzi at any time, when off camera??? What a cruel and voyeuristic society we have become!!!!
She has 12 months in an executive position, actually running a government...
Obama does not. She is going to be 2nd chair, not 1st. If either of them is going to be training on the job, better it be 2nd chair. She also served as mayor, which is also executive work. She has more experience to be President now (and that is not the position she is running for) than he does. Just fact, based entirely on experience. And the only reason I posted that at all is that is the first criticism of her that surfaced here. Personally, with Obama's limited experience going into the first chair, not the second chair...I would think his campaign and his followers would want the conversation to avoid that...that make an issue of it. Just an observation.
Her position was not eliminated - it says she is on unpaid leave of absence. nm

This is even WORSE!

You obviously can't come up with anything other than the religious right's OPINION of Phil Donahue.  I won't waste my time reading any more of your so-called *proof.*

Believe it or not, just because you IMAGINE something to be true doesn't make it so.

This is how they know Phil Donahue and others on their hit list are athiests (copied from their site):

Most of the time, you can tell what a person believes by their lifestyle and the words that come from their mouth. An atheist has a hard time believing in anything other than his/her own reason. Reason is something that was given to man to be able to deduce solutions to problems. It is also able to make us feel like gods when we place more value on our own knowledge than what is told in the Bible.

There is hope for atheists, for God is drawing all people to Christ. Will they listen? Every atheist who has died now knows the truth and is no longer an atheists; famous or otherwise.

And this would be worse than
a president that thinks God choose him to be president to facilitate Armageddon?
we have put up with worse, think
kennedy family. In fact, there is a lot they never told us in school about almost all of them. I don't know the whole story on mccain, but I do know he is the only one running with any sense of military. Obama says he will consult with his wife and grandmother, McCain says the generals. as far as addiction, they are very clever at hiding things from their families. I have known several through the years with alcohol problems, same thing. Betty Ford Clinic. How come nobody cares about sporting figures or hollywood stars or singers? and yes, some of them do end up in politics before you go there. The truth is, the whole world is jaded and traditional values don't mean anything anymore, or at least it seems that way. I want to see a politician I CAN trust, who can take the hard road when he has to, and I think he will have to. I also take note of the fact that no democracy has much staying power after the morales have gone, when debauchery is the norm, and everybody grows tolerant, then you will soon see a lost nation.
Nothing worse than......

None of it sticks, because it isn't true, and just reflects back on the poor judgment and character of those trying their darnest to be upsetting.

Worse
I heard last night that many of the forclosures are on loans made to illegal aliens because our government passed a law that something or other, I wasn't aware before, that had to give so many loans to them.  So I say again, what I've said all along, our government allowing unbridled illegal immigration was going to, and now has bankrupted us.  They take free medical care, free education, ALL the freebies and still want more.  RIDICULOUS!!!!
Well, I for one don't know anyone who is worse off now than
4 or 5 years ago. Sure, we have taken a hit in the market, but the market always comes back, and that isn't our main source of investment anyway. In our circle of friends, who make between 75K to 500K a year, we don't know anyone who has not been able to make a house payment, CC payment, can't afford to send their kids to college, etc. Speaking for DH and I, we have never been late on any payment, never had an NSF, never over spent our CC limit. Not everyone is in dire financial straits. I'm sure there are a lot of people out there who are in our situation who have planned for the future instead of living for today only. It is not uncommon or unheard of for people to be living within their means. I guess O considers us rich at 250K a year; wait until he decides that he needs to lower that figure to get the money he will need for all his "social programs" he wants to institute.
Joy is worse!
Joy is arrogant and nasty. Barbara Walters is getting pretty bad too. It may be because I agree with Elizabeth most of the time that I like her, but I cannot even stand the sound of Joy's voice, and those lovely faces she makes are great! I like Sherry, even though I usually don't agree with what she says.
No. Will most likely be much worse now with all

I'm the same - its getting worse and worse
Purposely hiding his relationships? The first thing I thought of was treason.
It's even worse than that!
They don't vote themselves a raise - it's automatically built in so that someone has to introduce legislation and then have enough backers to stop the raise! That hasn't happened in eight years! Wouldn't you just love to have a $4,700 raise come January? I'd be happy with just half of that, considering I haven't had a raise in, well, ever!!!

Here's what I don't understand - why is it that we elect these people, basically hiring them, to work for us. Every time an election rolls around, all the policitians can talk about is how they work for us. Why is it that when one of them screws up, like Blago for instance, we, the employers of these people, can't fire them? Why is it that the government then has to get involved to "impeach" them, even as they sit in office and continue signing bills into legislature? We should be able to sign a petition basically firing that politician and kicking him/her out to the curb, right then and there. I know that then creates the position that there is no one filling that job - so the idea still needs some work, but I just don't understand why we have the "power" to employ someone, but not the power to get rid of them when they're not doing their job. You and I can't get away with that!

I saw the thing about the furniture being thrown out as well and yes, that just burned me up. Why couldn't they have donated that furniture to a homeless shelter or a Salvation Army? And why is it that when new senators and reps come in, they get to change their whole office - even paint! I liked the idea that another poster had about keeping all the politicians in their own states, a little closer to home, so they could see how their decisions affect the people who employ them.

I think I need to take a break from this board - I'm gonna get carpal tunnel from here, not from working! LOL!!!
I don't think it's any worse than..(sm)
most other commercials out there.  It's a proven fact that sex sells.  As far as healthy relationships, I would much rather my daughter have a healthy *relationship* with broccoli than something that comes with the risks of disease and pregnancy....ROFL.....LONG LIVE THE VEGGIES...

This is worse than sad. This is delusional.
It's the anti-American pathos of the left that leads to brain rot.  I've seen it happen before. First they start calling everyone a liar, then they say they are hateful, then comes the Christian bashing and labeling.  Next, brain fluid will start to leak onto the keyboard, but they won't notice because their mind is gone, I tell you, GONE.
It's no worse than what has been done on our board. sm

It is disgusting to see that the poster who replied to the ugly post above actually thinks that frail, elderly, living, breathing Americans who take their citizenship seriously enough to barely make it to the early polls and back home again should be DISREGARDED if they die. What is that? With any luck, they both are sterile.
Did you ever think things could get worse in this

Could be worse. There is talk that...
California is actually going to give IOUs to state employees instead of paychecks. Now, that is rough! But you can bet that if the state employee owes taxes this year, they will not be permitted to send one in.
It could be worse - you could be a politician!

Yes, I truly think we will get a worse deal...

...with universal healthcare than we have now.  If you want to screw something up royally, give it to the gummint to run.

Good lord!  Look at Canada or the UK, who have socialized medicine.  You go into a Canadian clinic.  It's a walk-in system. They don't make appointments.  You take a number, which is 51.  Number fifty is called.  Then it's quitting time.  You get sent home to come back another day and try your luck again.  Need an MRI?  Take a number.  We'lll call you in 4-6 months - or you could go to the US for it.  Need bypass surgery?  We'll see about that.

It will become a triage system:  You, sir, are 60 years old and overweight.  Your cholesterol is too high.  Why should we waste our precious resources on you when younger and more viable specimens are stacking up outside?  No, you may not have an angioplasty - at least not this decade.  NEXT!

Socialized medicine is a pretty good deal if you're young and don't need a lot of services - not so very good when you reach an age when you actually do need them.

Abuse in Iraq as bad or worse
What I would like to know is this: Where is the outrage from all those who were so eager to go in and get *the brutal dictator*?

Abuse in Iraq as bad or worse than in Saddam's day: Allawi

LONDON (AFP) - Human rights abuses in Iraq now are as bad, or worse, than they when Saddam Hussein was in power, the nation's first post-Saddam prime minister was quoted as saying.

In an interview with the Observer newspaper in London, Iyad Allawi pointed an accusing finger at the interior ministry, and alleged that a lot of Iraqis are being tortured or killed during interrogation.

People are doing the same as (in) Saddam Hussein's time and worse, said Allawi, an prominent opponent of Saddam who steered the US-backed interim government in Baghdad until April this year.

It is an appropriate comparison. People are remembering the days of Saddam. These were the precise reasons that we fought Saddam Hussein and now we are seeing the same things.

Allawi's remarks came two weeks after US troops raided a secret prison in Iraq and found about 170 detainees in need of water, food and medical attention.

Graphic pictures released by the Committee of Muslim Scholars, the main Sunni religious organisation in Iraq, showed prisoners with severe burns, massive bruising and welts on their bodies.

US military commanders and diplomats called the abuse intolerable, pressuring elected prime minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari into ordering a joint Iraqi-US inquiry.

Interior Minister Bayan Baqer Solagh has denied claims that he commands death squads targeting the Sunni minority, adding that only a few detainees were punched and hit in the prison and that US forces knew of its existence.

Allawi told The Observer that the interior ministry, though not Solagh, was at the heart of the matter.

I am not blaming the minister himself, but the rank and file are behind the secret dungeons and some of the executions that are taking place, he was quoted as saying.

He also said: We are hearing about secret police, secret bunkers where people are being interrogated.

A lot of Iraqis are being tortured or killed in the course of interrogations. We are even witnessing Sharia courts based on Islamic law that are trying people and executing them.

He said that if immediate action is not taken, the disease infecting (the interior ministry) will become contagious and spread to all ministries and structures of Iraq's government.

More broadly, Allawi warned of the danger of Iraq disintegrating in chaos, saying: Iraq is the centrepiece of this region. If things go wrong, neither Europe nor the United States will be safe.

Which image problem is worse?
Assuming image problems are of any importance whatsoever in the grand scheme of things. Yet there are some who continue to insist this is their "legitimate concern." Can this get any more juvenile?
