I'm stumped and probably should really know this, but can anyone tell me why small to moderate amount is not hyphenated? Why it does not meet the criteria for a compound modifier?

You're thinking of another word board where suggestions and hints are given rather than the actual term in question so that the person asking the question does his/her own work and learns something from it. This board, as someone once said and was badly flamed, "spoon feeds" answers to questions. The answers should be researched before they are provided. It is up to the questioner to research the supplied answers to make sure they fit in with the dictation.

No one can learn from incorrect answers like "expressive achalasia" and "polynephritis." They'll only lose their jobs and wonder why.

Help please! S/L "grow-FEAR-ee-uh tat-AWN-uh" (sm)
Subject: Help please! S/L "grow-FEAR-ee-uh tat-AWN-uh" (sm)

Exact context is:  "The patient also had a multitude of other surgeries, which he totals over 100, relating to Agent Orange exposure and chronic ***  gropheria tatana ***, which has led to benign lipoma growth in a multitude of areas in his body, including his chest wall and abdomen."

The doc himself spells out "tatana".  I cannot find any reference to anything that seems close.  I have found porphyria cutanea tarda, which seems like the best bet, but it doesn't sound that close to what he actually said and spelled.  What would you do? Just flag it?  I hate blanks in my reports...  You know we get blamed for them even if the doctor spells something for us incorrectly.

Any ideas?

Sputum culture of patients at Siriraj Hospital, Bangkok was 49.84% positive for bacterial pathogens in 1994 and 40.95% in 1995. The average incidence of gram-negative rods was 3.11 fold more than the combination of gram-positive cocci and gram-negative cocci. The most common gram-negative rod was Pseudomonas aeruginosa, followed by either Klebsiella pneumoniae or Acinetobacter anitratus depending on year. The most common coccus was Staphylococcus aureus. From both years, the number of Haemophilus influenzae, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Burkholderia pseudomallei and Nocardia spp isolated were 122, 93, 13 and 11 strains respectively. For antimicrobial susceptibility, P. aeruginosa was sensitive to ceftazidime, imipenem, gentamicin, amikacin, netilmicin, ciprofloxacin (range 56-89%). S. aureus (MSSA) was sensitive to common used drugs. S. aureus (MRSA) was sensitive to co-trimoxazole, fosfomycin, vancomycin (range 57-100%) and resistant to most drugs.

Milton, no ulterior motive here. I'm also not a cynic, so perhaps it's best I just graciously back away from this board. You've already answered my question. This is not a board for the likes of executives. The information flying around is inaccurate, and that's the way it will remain. Since most people are smart enough to go to the source when seeking verifiable info, I'll trust the general population to be sensible enough to contact the source if and when in doubt about what they're reading. Sorry to have disturbed you.
